Dr. Mike Hulme says scientists and activists are exaggerating the threat
Politicians and activists alike have warned of a looming climate catastrophe for decades. “Biden urged to declare climate change a national emergency,” reported NBC last year. “Climate Changes Threatens Every Facet of U.S. Society, Federal Report Warns,” announced Scientific American.
Cambridge University climate scientist Mike Hulme disagrees. “Declaring a climate emergency has a chilling effect on politics,” he tells Public. “It suggests there isn’t time for normal, necessary democratic process.”
Climate activists may dismiss Hulme as a “climate denier,” but he agrees the planet is warming due to human activities and specifically says we should prepare for more heat waves.
Moreover, Hulme’s credentials are undeniably impressive. He is a Professor at the University of Cambridge and founding Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research. Hulme has advised everyone from the United Nations to the UK Government and earned a personalized certificate from the Nobel Peace Prize committee for his work with the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
Now, in his new book, Climate Change Isn’t Everything, Hulme strongly denounces “climatism,” which he describes as the “unyielding belief that stopping climate change is the pre-eminent yardstick against which all policies must be measured.”

The obvious, and unspoken, assumption is that the report was based on accurate scientific data, not politically motivated and inaccurate garbage. If that had been the case, then it would have been accepted not thrown in the bin.

He is a warmist although a pretty rational one, in that he doesn’t rant about it. In that respect his comments are worth a lot and display that good old fashioned scientific notion of scepticism.
True but he has done this before then vanished for a long while and saying climate change nonsense, hence my forked tongue reference.
I don’t think this guy is helping matters much if he says we should prepare for more heatwaves, which is clearly a declaration by him that Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming (CAGW) is just around the corner.
His “moderation” is still feeding the CAGW narrative.
He has the same certificate as Mikey Mann.
IIRC, in evidence before Mann vs Stein, it was displayed that the said certificate was produced by IPCC, not by the Nobel people, whose head wrote to Mann asking him to cease asserting that he had been awarded a Nobel Peace Prize. But, there was no formal judgement on that particular issue. Geoff S

When I was a kid somewhere I heard that the daddy long leg’s was the most potent venom of any spider but their fangs weren’t long enough to penetrate human skin. I made a comment on WUWT about that. Someone who knew more corrected me. I did my own checking on what they said and confirmed that they were right and I was wrong. I was thankful.
What makes one a “liar” rather than just being wrong or honestly mistaken about something is telling the “lie” that you know is a lie for some personal gain or for “The Cause” (Whatever your cause may be).
Not much difference between “Noble Cause Corruption” and “The End Justifies the Means”.

One thing is always certain. Everyone who talks about climate in the press writes a book.
No one is permitted to stray from Doctrine. To stray is heresy. Thus what is expressed about climate is not science but doctrine, and that doctrine now states that there is a Climate Emergency. To challenge this is the stray. After all, those who run the governments of Canada and the USA have embraced doctrine, so why even question them? (For Americans, Canada does not have democracy like the Brits, where party members will challenge the leader and bring that person down, even when there is a majority government, ask Boris about that…no, it is a cult in Canada at the moment, which may not be challenged by Liberal Party Edict.)

They agree with the CAGW fanatics except they don’t think Nut Zero needs to be done by 2050. This leads to debates over the timing of Nut Zero rather than the proper debate over the need for Nut Zero (not needed) and the CAGW predictions of doom (climate astrology baloney)

Fail. Increase in global average temperature (that in itself is a meaningless term) is due to increased low temperatures mainly in winter and at night and in arctic and sub-arctic regions.
Convective transfer rules heat transfer within the atmosphere and water vapor rules convective transfer.
“Fail.”

If the global population, life expectancy, widespread famine were all increasing and agricultural output was decreasing, “climate crisis” proponents might be able to claim some degree of credibility. But since all of the above are headed in the opposite direction, they have little or none. That’s the reason that their rantings are inevitably greeted with derision.
Climatism, Genderism, and Racismism are duking it out for political and cultural supremacy.
So they intersect them, and go for all of them at once.

Only imbeciles would think they can stop climate change.
The forces that shape Earth’s climate are beyond human comprehension. When most of the ocean surface in the NH is reaching the 30C limit each m^2 of those warm pools will have 100mm of atmospheric water over it in September that will come back down as snow on land so thick that it will be far more extensive than any prior human experience in recorded time. The northern forests will be buried under metres of snow and some of it will remain year-in-year-out for the next 100,000 years.
Aiming to stop the inevitability of glaciation is a fool’s errand.
So much foolishness about CO2 causing the current heating. The sunlight over global land mass started intensifying 500 years ago. Oceans in the HN consequently retain more heat because summer advection slows down. But winter advection is only just starting to ramp up. The signs are obvious for anyone not buying the CO2 craziness.
The current warming trend in the oceans of the NH is only 400 years into a 10,000 year long trend. A lot more of the surface will reach the 30C limit before there is enough ice stored on land to lower the average temperature.

They are certainly beyond comprehension to date. Someday we will understand all the variables, but that’s not today. Today, we are still ‘shooting in the dark” when it comes to understanding the Earth’s climate and how it operates.
