Part of the problem is the genuine appeal of fake news. A recent study in Nature Human Behavior found that climate change disinformation was more persuasive than scientific facts. Researchers at the University of Geneva in Switzerland had originally intended to see if they could help people fend off disinformation, testing different strategies on nearly 7,000 people from 12 countries, including the United States, India, and Nigeria. Participants read a paragraph intended to strengthen their mental defenses — reminders of the scientific consensus around climate change, the trustworthiness of scientists, or the moral responsibility to act, for example. Then they were subjected to a barrage of 20 real tweets that blamed warming on the sun and the “wavy” jet stream, spouted conspiracies about “the climate hoax devised by the U.N.,” and warned that the elites “want us to eat bugs.”
The interventions didn’t work as hoped, said Tobia Spampatti, an author of the study and a neuroscience researcher at the University of Geneva. …

The most straightforward way to fight disinformation would be to stop it from happening in the first place, Spampatti said. But even if regulators were able to get social media companies to try to stop the spread of conspiracy theories and falsehoods, dislodging them is a different story. One promising approach, “deep canvassing,” seeks to persuade people through nonjudgmental, one-on-one conversations. The outreach method, invented by LGBTQ+ advocates, involves hearing people’s concerns and helping them work through their conflicted feelings. Research has shown that deep canvassing isn’t just successful at reducing transphobia, but also that its effects can last for months, a long time compared to other interventions. Imagine having a government funded rainbow liberal show up on your doorstep, who explains that you need their help to resolve YOUR emotional problems.
Proponents of this absurdity claim we skeptics deny the overwhelming evidence for the climate crisis, because it is easier to cling to delusions than face our fear and personal responsibility for contributing to the crisis. The plan is that with a little one on one psychological help, the same kind of help which is given to bisexual or gay people who are struggling to accept their sexuality, we can overcome our reluctance to face the truth about the climate crisis.
Somehow I doubt gay therapy for climate skeptics will prove any more persuasive than failed skeptic narrative “inoculation” initiatives.
I’m pretty sure that people who reject the science of chromosomes can convince anyone of anything that resembles science, while not actually following the scientific method.

My judgment as a layman, engineer and a person who doesn’t believe man (and woman and LGBTQ++++) are destroying the climate, is that we, unfortunately, have reached the point where lunatics are truly running the asylum, from our education/indoctrination system, to our government which is now filled at the highest levels with anti-white, anti-capitalist persons with many types of sexual dysphoria. I used to be perfectly normal, at least according to the MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory) Exam, which is now probably judged to be a product of white supremacy, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-LGBTQ+++, etc., etc. Oh well . . . I’m 87 and probably have at least one toe in the grave.

What you have to watch for is the way that political and policy ideas and institutions change their names, change their justifications, change the measures they advocate, but accomplish the same things underneath. So the Cheka becomes the KGB and then the GRU. The SD becomes the Stasi. The organizations have different rationales and different names, but they do the same things. In the case of the Stasi, they are run by many of the same people.
One of the classic examples in the Soviet Union was the alternative treatment of dissenters. Yes, you could send them to the gulags, and that happened. But they were also classified as mentally ill and confined to mental hospitals, where they were treated. In the end the result was the same, forced confinement and punishment. Its just that in the second case it was called treatment. It seems like its different, its regarded as different by most people, but actually its very much the same thing.
This is what is happening with the current surge of gender ideology. The details are left to the reader. Lets just say that in the UK, the step from Oscar Wilde to the Tavistock is a lot shorter, and the similarities greater, than you might think.

Such people of that age would have never seen balanced reporting on the climate issue a single time in their entire lives.
The fact that they can claim without the slightest evidence that this is the hottest year in 125,000 years shows that they are the ones needing therapy!
All the real evidence points to current temperature being “most probably” below those of the MWP, and certainly significantly lower than most of the last 10,000 years.

I found ten periods in just the last 3,000 years which had faster warming rates than today. The fastest was 2.6C in 83 years from 2374 YBP to 2291.

Every single study done has been debunked for the same reasons – the proxies are not fit for purpose, the data is vague and ambiguous, the areas they chose were error-ridden or with extreme bias and the methodology was severely lacking. There isn’t one single study that has stood up to scrutiny, they have all failed.

For one thing, tree line studies from all around the world show that tree lines grew in the past where they don’t grow now, and that is because it was warmer in the past. Tree stumps can be dated accurately.

I clicked on the grist link above and was greeted by McKibben asking for money. I can smell a scam a mile off. There’s no therapy in the world that will stop me being a sceptic. It’s built in, part of my genome and that refers to any aspect of science, challenge everything. Trust no one but listen and probe. Ask the hard questions and when the reply is based on belief and conviction you know it ain’t science.
Well, the only “climate deniers” are on the left. They believe that ANY change in climate is bad and caused by humans. THAT is denial.
