The Climate ‘Emergency’ Is Coming for You – ‘The urge to curtail individual freedom is visible in countless blueprints for a controlled future’

Excerpts: But the notion of a national emergency today isn’t farfetched. The United Nations website blares: “What you need to know about the Climate Emergency.” The European Parliament has declared one. So have hundreds of jurisdictions in at least 39 countries, including the U.K., Canada, Japan and Bangladesh. Climate-activist teenager Greta Thunberg gave away the game in 2019 when she said, “I want you to panic,” and, “I want you to act as if you would in a crisis.” Emergencies are an excuse to do whatever you want.

U.S. presidents can declare national emergencies, as spelled out in the 1976 National Emergencies Act, but they must be explicit: “When the President declares a national emergency, no powers or authorities made available by statute for use in the event of an emergency shall be exercised unless and until the President specifies the provisions of law under which he proposes that he, or other officers will act.” I’ve searched far and wide for such provisions and can’t find them.

No matter, we’re living as if we’re already under emergency conditions. As of Aug. 1, the Biden administration has halted the sale of lightbulbs with less than 45 lumens of brightness per watt. Incandescent bulbs don’t make the cut and are now banned. Thomas Alva Edison is rolling over in his grave. Will electricity be rationed next?

Oops, too late. In September 2022, the California Independent System Operator—which runs the state’s power grid, attached to sporadic renewables—declared an “energy emergency alert,” urging residents to ration power from 4 to 9 p.m. In March, the European Union mandated energy consumption be cut by 11.7% by 2030. Brits are urged to turn their heat off at night for “emissions savings.” The Swiss considered jail time if your thermostat is set above 66 degrees in the winter. Sit in the cold and dark and like it! And wait till you see the menu. The EU already allows crickets and mealworm larvae as food. Are high-protein maggots next?

This nonsense could never happen in the U.S., could it? Well, in 2016, New York University professor Matthew Liao suggested, “possibly we can use human engineering to make the case that we’re intolerant to certain kinds of meat.” He even suggested deploying a “Lone Star tick where, if it bites you, you will become allergic to meat.”

Add to the mix the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, which has an “ambitious target in 2030” of no meat, no dairy, no private vehicles and only “three new clothing items per person per year.” Plus one short flight every three years. That sounds like climate lockdowns to me. Who are these kooks? “A global network of nearly 100 mayors” including 14 in America: Austin, Texas; Boston; Chicago; Houston; Los Angeles; Miami; New Orleans; New York; Philadelphia; Phoenix; Portland, Ore.; San Francisco; Washington and Seattle. Michael Bloomberg is president of the board. Better stock up on socks while you can.

When you declare an emergency, anything goes. The Biden administration pushes electric vehicles, and this summer we had a glut of them—inventories were 92 days, double what is typical. As of midyear, Ford had 116 days of unsold Mustang Mach-Es. Maybe because saner Americans are becoming preppers and loading up on good old gasoline-fired cars before California’s Advanced Clean Cars II Regulations, which other states follow, outlaws them in 2035. Vroom, vroom.

Emergency-preparedness edicts abound: Gas stove bans. No plastic bottles for sale at San Francisco Airport. A new proposal from New York City’s Department of Environmental Protection would effectively ban coal- and wood-fired pizza ovens. A city official reports that fewer than 100 restaurants would have to install prohibitively expensive emissions controls, so it must be a real emergency if New York is tracking down these last few ounces of carbon.

Climate lockdowns still sound like crazytown, but the urge to curtail individual freedom is visible in countless government, media and think-tank blueprints for a controlled future. Saner minds should prevail—the Climate Emergency Act of 2021 evidently died in committee—but we need constant vigilance to stand guard against the climate-excuse assaults on our liberties. To show how adolescent this has become, last year Swiss Environmental Minister Simonetta Sommaruga suggested that residents “shower together” to save energy. OK, now we’re getting somewhere.

If the U.K. is in the grip of climate breakdown I’m a banana.

It’s getting very silly now

“”shower together” to save energy. “”

In 1976 it was to save water….

Well the UK does now have a new record of 5 consecutive September days where the temperature somewhere reached 30 C and MET office is hoping today will make that 6 days. Cue panic amongst the media.

Interestingly the previous record was 3 consecutive days in 1898, 1906, 1911 and 2016.
So looks like it was as warm in the late 19thC early 20th C as now.

So what, I say, to the claim of five September days. As I read (in WUWT, I believe), Sept is just a name given to a bunch of 30 days. But, in the last ten years there have been 3650 days (forget leap days) and 3620 30 day periods. Any one of these could as easily fit the bill of ‘owning’ consecutive hot days. Like I said: so what.

“The Swiss considered jail time if your thermostat is set above 66 degrees in the winter.”

Then it’s back to burning wood to stay warm in the winter. No thermostats on most wood stoves.

This theme of gaining control was actually stated by Rahm Emanuel, President Obama’s Chief of Staff, when he said “You never let a serious crisis go to waste.” The power-hungry left utilizes race, gender, economic status, environmental issues, and funded predetermined “scientific research” to gain unwarranted power. If glaciers actually began a rapid advance tomorrow they would instantly switch to Global Cooling.

Should we call it insanity or just plain evil? There are wealthy and powerful people in the world who want to take it over and run it as they see fit for their own benefit. One of the things they like to do is force you to believe things that are obviously not true. Believe that 4 fingers are actually 5 as in
Orwell’s 1984. In today’s version you have to believe that women can be men, men can be women, men can have babies and climate change is an existential threat. Once they do that they can control you.

These are the same nice folks who are desperately trying to keep Trump from becoming president again. They know he would derail their plans. That may be the best reason to vote Trump in 2024.

I agree David. when you look at history sometimes it really does come down to a single man ( or woman) that alters the trajectory of a nation and beyond.

Without Trump I believe the depth of the corruption would not have been revealed. As dark as things are right now- at least we know without a doubt the evil we are facing.

Unfortunately, the largest economies in the world are run like pyramid schemes and require an exponentially expanding base of poor people to support the wealthiest at the top. We are at a place in time where there may not be enough poor people to keep the scheme going. Making people dependent on the government gives leaders total control over people’s lives. The American bill of rights should have had an additional amendment: “Congress shall make no law allowing use of taxpayer funds for charitable purposes.” It would have saved us from the mess we are in now.

Amazingly, electing Donald Trump President would save the whole world. Having the only guy for whom nothing is too big to fail, will embolden other new leaders to go the distance needed to root out the whole mess. Half measures only slow the wokie virus down.

Mayors need to be hauled out of foreign affairs, treasonous billionaire anti-American ‘Funds’ should be delisted as charities and possibly charged for damage caused, defund broken Universities, the UN and all the rest. The Constitution needs boilerplate …

We all would like to have seen much more than we did, but with all the obfuscatory phony charges, investigations, impeachments, and Deep State anti-Trump skulduggery, his performance with the economy, record employment, repatriation of companies to the US, Nobel Prize performance (unawarded) in making peace deals in the Middle East, making US energy sufficient for the first time, dumping the Paris Accord, making NATO pay its way, cutting funding to the corrupt WHO after their COVID performance, erasing ISIS….whew! That man is a whirlwind isn’t he! I was hoping in my comment for the other half of the measures.

Yes, Trump is a whirlwind, and that’s in the face of as much resistance as the radical Democrats could muster against him. They attacked everything he did from every angle, and still, look what he managed to accomplish. Hell, they were impeaching him and denigrating him the whole time he was president and continue these attacks to this day, weaponizing the federal government against him and his supporters.

When people say Trump didn’t do enough, they should consider what he was up against. It’s amazing he managed to get anything done. But he kept fighting and got the United States on the right track in so many areas. And he can do it again, if given the chance.

There’s going to be a lot of firing going on in Washington DC if Trump is elected. The FBI Director and the Attorney General of the United States will be the very first to go.

Reply to  Curious George
September 10, 2023 4:05 am

Yeah, that’s easy for you to say now. Who would you have trusted other than Dr. Fauci when the pandemic first began? You didn’t know anything more about the disease than did anyone else, including Trump. Fauci was the expert. The first thing you would do is go to someone else other than Fauci? Why? How would you know he was full of lies at that time? Answer: You couldn’t know, and neither could Trump.

You require Trump to be an infectious disease specialist, too?

Do you recall when Trump stopped all air traffic from China because of the covid virus? Guess who opposed this move? Answer: Every one of the 26 advisors he had in the room at the time, including Dr. Fauci. So claiming Trump was Fauci’s slave is obviously false.

Trump did what he thought was right, and even Fauci couldn’t change his mind, and this was at the very beginning of the pandemic. Trump saw the danger of allowing unrestricted travel, and it didn’t matter if others, including Fauci, could not see it. He stopped the travel anyway.

Hindsight is 20/20, isn’t it.

The WEColluding for a World-wide Welfare State › American Greatness (amgreatness.com)

But, one may ask, how can the ostensible “titans” of capitalism become strange bedfellows with socialist environmentalists? Because both want to control you for their own purposes; and, for now, those purposes coincide. One need look no further for proof than the ESG movement among multinational corporations. Someday, likely sooner rather than later, when these two colluders’ interests no longer mesh, it will be interesting to see which side is the rider and which is the tiger.
The first goal of the collusion between the WEF and the apocalyptic climate cult is to convince the upper and middle classes of the wealthiest industrialized nations that diminished expectations are virtuous. It is done by indoctrinating these classes with the belief they are an elite born to impose the radical, extreme, and dangerous agenda of “less is more.” Initially, given their wealth and status (often inherited), they will feel immune to the policies they impose; and, when they do, the sacrifice will feel small in relation to the external validation they receive among their class for their “virtue.” Only later will the full deleterious impacts of the bait and switch of the “less is more” agenda become clear to the privileged of the industrialized nations; and by then it will be too late.
