Friday Funny: Paul Ehrlich Discredits the Peer Review Process

Ever since CBS trotted out serial doomster Ehrlich to promote his never ending negative knowledge this week, we’ve heard a lot of pushbacks.

For example, this post yesterday from Anthony

Well on Tuesday it was all just too much for the old malthusian and he lashed out at all those right wingers.

Twitter was not kind to nonagenarian face of environmental chicken littleism. Here are some examples.

It is quite entertaining to read the quote tweets directly. I highly recommend it.

Dr. Roger Pielke Jr also joined in the response.

Originally tweeted by Roger Pielke Jr. (@RogerPielkeJr) on January 5, 2023.

🧵
This 1971 review of Ehrlich and Ehrlich by Roger Revelle titled, “Paul Ehrlich: New High Priest of Ecocatastrophe” is really something

https://doi.org/10.2307/2134034

The poor should stay poor, to allow more for us
Hence the concept of “never-to-be-developed countries”

I had no idea Revelle was so spicy:

“No one can blame the Ehrlichs, living within a few miles of the Bay Shore Highway between San Francisco and San Jose, for thinking that the four-fold growth of California’s population since 1930 is a disaster”

Compulsory abortion, sure, why not

Originally tweeted by Roger Pielke Jr. (@RogerPielkeJr) on January 5, 2023.

I’ll end this medley with a video clip demonstrating what a disgusting, anti-human, anti-freedom, totalitarian statist, Ehrlich always has been. It’s illustrative that he begins by saying he’s not in favor of government interference then goes on to describe all the ways he wants government to interfere.

Paul Erhlich is ranked with the Jehovah’s Witnesses for predicting doom that does not occur, and still being active, preaching the same message.

I hope many go read the twitter comments to his absurd statement as they are seeing what a dope, he is even some liberals in the comments are saying he is …. wrong.

Incredible that he still has a following after 55 years of being wrong……

Uhhmm…..er… “surface population?” This is the second totally weird and whalley concerning conspiracy theory in one week.
Just days ago WUWT informed us that Evolution is (apparently) subject to paranoid speculation by conspiracy nuts, now I have to start worrying about people living underground, and ain’t nobody tole me?

For many years I had members of this sect knocking on my door to have a word and to distribute their publication. They were invariably kind and polite, as opposed to Ehrlich and his associates, who would have likely had me and my family shot in the back of the head as much as look at us.

A close friend in grade school in the late 1960’s was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Jesus was to come back in 1975. That was not the only time they named a date for the Second Coming, and missed.

Error propagates error backed by science illiterates worshipping a badly flawed pseudoscientist.

This is why consensus nonsense is being strongly pushed by people who don’t want their delusion to be under challenge by rational people who understands what a delusion looks like.

True peers would have to be as badly wrong for about as long a time. Thus we have:

  1. Wadhams on Arctic sea ice.
  2. Hansen on sea level rise.
  3. Sterling and Derocher on polar bears.
  4. Mann on paleoclimate.
  5. IPCC on ECS.
  6. Oreskes on doubt merchants.
  7. Viner on UK snow.
  8. Schellnhuber on temperature tipping points.
  9. Gore on inconvenient truths.

If Erhlich had a real job or even if he owned a company he would soon be broke if he went with his predictions .
All he has achieved is to scare people that they have nothing to look forward to .
He has got his prediction about poorer countries and increasing population completely wrong .
That is because rich countries have low birth rares but poorer countries have high birth rates .
Help poor countries improve their standard of living and the birth rate will fall in most of them .
Just look at Somalia 2.5 million people in 1950 now over 15 million.

Years ago on the Johnny Carson show, the host asked Ehrlich about the quality and cost of his suit (very high).

Every environmental “crisis” since Rachel Carson began the movement 70 years ago has been a false alarm. This is no coincidence. Any time there’s a slow news week, Big Media will invent, and start selling us, one more phony emergency. They consider it to be their job. Naturally, politicians who buy in and want to “do something” about the crisis are Big Media’s natural allies.

Of course the phony-emergency technique is much older than environmentalism.

The only thing different about the last 20-30 years is public access to the Internet, which allows dissenting views to see the light of day, and has reached the point where Big Media’s word no longer defines “mainstream,” and there is no longer a mainstream. But we still are not yet in a position to wean our families and friends off Big Media. Each must discover the truth for himself or he will refuse to accept it.

You can not expect that a nonagenarian who has been wrong all his life will suddenly say so. It would be tantamount to saying that he realised he has wasted his life.

The recent storms have been blasting the Sierra Nevada mountain range with an incredible amount of snow, with each event being measured in feet. For the entire range, the amount of water locked in the snowpack is above average for the season so far, and in some places, is approaching the average amount for an entire winter season. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the current average snowpack across the range is at a 10-year high.

Stanford does not really have high standards … it is a show.

Paul Ehrlich is a denier. He can’t admit to himself that he has been wrong all his life.

Unfortunately, his “wrongness” fits the radical leftwing narrative, so the radical leftwing, including CBS, promote his delusions and make him out to be a very smart guy and an authority.

Our Mass Media create False Realities that they want all of us to live in. Those False Realities benefit the radical Left and harm the rest of us.

Critical Thinking is critical.

Does one have to be taught to be a critical thinker, or is it innate? I don’t think it has to be taught. I think some people (don’t know how many) come by it naturally.

Of course, one doesn’t have to be too much of a critical thinker to figure out Paul Ehrlich is wrong, since he has a very long history of bad predictions.

There seems to be a dearth of critical thinking among our current political class.

I was impressed by two things.

  • How fast he switched from not believing in government interference to describing the government interference he wanted. I do not remember ever hearing a hypocrite change 180° that fast.
  • How fast and clearly he talked, as if he had repeated those talking points so often that it was like hitting a macro key in a word processor: instant spew.

What a loon then what a loon now.

There are only a few excuses/explanations for this: advanced dementia, deficient intellect, and malfeasance. As the problem started many decades ago I think dementia can’t be the whole problem. To be generous let’s assume ignorance with a hint of malevolence fueled by an undeserved sense of importance. Anyone who thinks winning ribbons and prizes is a sign of their worth to their fellow beings is not on solid ground.

Brad-DXT

I think the explanation would be clear if you could follow the money.
Who is supporting this loser?
Who is responsible for awarding his prizes?
I don’t think dementia has anything to do with five decades of his desire for authoritarian rule. Malevolence is the most likely driver of his narrative.

If you had a stock broker giving you buy and sell tips for several years and was consistently wrong, would you follow his advice? Why anyone would give him the time of day is beyond me.

Here’s a ring-side seat of what it really looks like when political operatives concoct a useful story – in this example Russian interference in the 2016 election – and literally force / coerce organisations like Facebook and Twitter to “find” evidence for it. And the punishment that follows when they fail to find what they were told to find.
