Komodo dragon relatives evolved into mosasaurs once before. They could do it again.
Sinking sub continent Zealandia probably led to evolution of flightless birds into penguins
Penguins love global warming.
I did too. My Mum used to give me one every day ## when I set off for school – to eat along with my 1/3rd pint of full-fat Government-provided & subsidised silver top milk
Gotta love that ain’t ya, me the son of a dairy farmer. In fact a lot of my peers were the children of dairy farmers.
Nearly all gone now 🙁
## Not every school-day, sometimes I got a Jacobs Club. I liked the orange ones best 😀

I thought Peta was a girl’s name.
The land lizards which rapidly evolved into mosasaurs lived in Texas, akin to Dallasaurus. They took advantage of the marine opportunities opened up by the demise of ichthyosaurs and pliosaurs.
If so, it would be by the same process fish evolved into land creatures: pre-planned instructions for doing so in the genetic code. In the case of fish, the genes were there many millions of years before, and remained there despite being of no use whatsoever for a very long time.
There are no “preplanned” instructions in the genetic code.
No, penguins are older than that, they go back at least to Early Paleocene. And flightless diving seabirds have evolved several times in the North Atlantic and North Pacific as well.
65 mya…That’s when Zealandia existed too and the historic location of pre historic types.
Most of Zealandia was submerged in the Late Cretaceous, after breaking away from the Australian portion of Gondwanaland, 79 to 83 million years ago.
A most interesting and valuable explanation of the reactions in the earth’s surface. This should be used in schools to help educate pupils about such fascinatng scientific facts.
I quite agree…I think it’s one of Jim’s best.
Headline:”Stable Sea Level and Thriving Komodo Dragons”
Good news eh
Now then, if we could just achieve some stable politicians, stable science and not unstable media, this Climate Hideousity will be forgotten about or, if it is remembered, as just A Bad Dream
The Komodo dragons need to be released in to Washington. It is a pretty bad way to go- the lizard bites you, the fetid saliva causes incurable infection-kills you – dragon comes back a couple of days later to eat your corpse. Pretty reasonable way to drain the swamp.
I am rather glad that both they and Megalania are no longer found here, Varanus gigantaeus is as large as i want to bump into in the outback.
Megalania had to be exterminated. They were too big and too smart to cohabit with people.
I saw a documentary years ago about the komodo dragons. It very graphically showed what you described in your post. Brutal!
Will they eat snakeheads?
Maybe they can start with Joint Chiefs Chairman Mark Milley…and then move right up the food chain.
HT,
How cruel! The poor dragons would be quickly wiped out by the packs of rabid, partisan lawyers roaming the halls of DC! If nothing else, they would be canceled for being too carnivorous, and probably designated as domestic terrorists to be placed in solitary confinement until they fully confess!
The dragons risk getting poisoned if they bite a DC politician. It’s too dangerous for the Komodo Dragons in DC.
The land fast ice is melting, faster and when it does it raises sea levels.
Mind you, Komodos can swim
Does this mean you watched the video and find nothing wrong with it?
Griff, go beyond the headline?
The first thing that crossed my mind when I read griff’s comment was that his cognitive bias prevents him from learning anything that might interfere with his simplistic perception of reality.
Can you provide some documentation behind that claim?
Or is it just more “models have predicted” garbage?
False, again!
Willful lie.
Fast ice is mostly sea ice. It generally forms by water freezing.
Fast ice melting will not raise sea level.
The land ice will continue to melt as long as warm breezes persist.
But have no fear. This interglacial is heading towards another miles deep ice age,
Just wait a few years!
There isn’t much in the way of warm breezes once you get past the coastlines of Greenland or Antarctica. Probably the greatest melting in Antarctica is from geothermal heat in West Antarctica.
Careful Griff, You are really showing your total ignorance by incorrectly using the term “land fast ice”. When you look that stupid even the troll factory might fire you!
Careful, Jim!
Trying to engage in conversation with the griffter seems to correlate with lowered mental function and/or dementia! It may not be contagious, but that level of stupidity seems to spread; perhaps in the same manner that parents inherit insanity from their children!
We can’t afford to lose you and all the other excellent videos you have yet to make!
At least we now know that Archimedes´ Principle is beyond Griff´s mental capacity.
Polar Bears swim far better and a lot longer too, yet you ignore that all the time.
All those Arctic and Antarctic species being great swimmers, what a lucky coincidence
This is an excellent presentation!
Good presentation, send the link around. As to sea level, it rises and it falls, rises and falls, nothing humans can do to stop or cause either.
In contrast to catastrophic speculation from climate models, and media hype, the scientific evidence reveals rising CO2 has NOT caused a dangerous rise in anything and has NOT threatened the human race with extinction.
How dare you use reality to cast doubt on what the models have already proven.
Great video Jim to share with my unscientific friends. Some examples could be given, but would make the video longer I guess. For instance, Jakarta is built on a delta with the problematic processes (of sedimentary compression and ground water extraction) as you discussed in the video.
I love that scene with the clowns underwater!
I’m looking forward to Jim’s next post about how CO2 cools the Earth’s atmosphere. 🙂
Thank you Dr. Steele for the clear and concise explanation.
