Viral Encore: Another Swine Flu Strain In China Reportedly Threatens To Become A Pandemic

David Krayden Ottawa Bureau Chief June 30, 2020 10:23 AM ET

As the world continues to fight the coronavirus, scientists have identified a new flu strain that could create another pandemic — and it comes from China.

The virus is the latest development of the swine flu, which last hit the U.S. in 2009. The new virus has been named G4 EA H1N1, is currently carried and passed by pigs, and can also infect humans, the BBC reported Tuesday. However, it is believed the virus cannot currently be passed from human to human.

If the strain successfully mutates into a virus that can be passed by humans to other humans, the likelihood of a pandemic that can reach global proportions is significantly increased.

Researchers recommend in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences that all those working with pigs should be closely monitored to check the potential spread of the new virus. (RELATED: Trump Snaps Over Obama Criticism, Says Swine Flu Response Was A ‘Disaster’)

While the new strain of swine flu poses no immediate threat, the rapid spread of coronavirus has illustrated how quickly an isolated viral outbreak can become a world crisis.

It is unknown if people would possess any immunity to a new flu strain, the BBC notes, adding that although existing flu vaccines are seemingly powerless to stop it, scientists may be able to adapt them to the new disease.

“Right now we are distracted with coronavirus and rightly so. But we must not lose sight of potentially dangerous new viruses,” Prof Kin-Chow Chang of the United Kingdom’s Nottingham University told the BBC. “We should not ignore it.”

China reportedly ignored the ongoing coronavirus outbreak initially and suppressed people trying to sound the alarm. A recent study indicated that the disease may have struck the country in late summer or early fall 2019 — months before the Chinese Communist Party’s admission of a problem.

China did not formally identify the COVID-19 virus to the World Health Organization (WHO) until Dec. 31, 2019, while U.S. intelligence said China grossly under-reported the amount of deaths incurred by the disease early in the crisis.

The South China Morning Post found evidence of a COVID-19 case as early as Nov. 17, 2019.

China’s record for transparency on the beginnings and spread of the virus has been severely criticized. Authorities gagged doctors, whistleblowers and journalists who attempted to break the news about the sickness. (RELATED: Peter Navarro Says China Used ‘The Four Kills’ To Attack America Through The Coronavirus Pandemic)

If China had acted swiftly to contain the disease, it may have reduced the global transmission of the virus by as much as 95%, one study concluded.

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has recently surged, with many Americans once again fearing infection as the number of cases rapidly rises in several states.

So, the viruses keep on coming over from China, eh? Makes one wonder if this is a deliberate action on their part.

the rapid spread of coronavirus has illustrated how quickly an isolated viral outbreak can become a world crisis.

Why is no one talking about the obvious danger of “gain of function” bio research. We are engineering viruses which would not normally affect humans to have that capacity and doing so DELIBERATELY.

The pro- argument is that this MAY help us anticipate when nature does this itself and lets up prepare treatments. The reality has just been pointed out in striking clarity that the risk FAR out weights the potential gain.

We need international treaties banning this unnecessary, sorcerer’s apprentice experiment.s

The 2019 Military World Games, officially known as the 7th CISM Military World Games and commonly known as Wuhan 2019, was held from October 18–27, 2019 in Wuhan. There were 10,000 athletes there, from 100 countries.
Note the date and location. Perhaps that is how COVID-19 first was transported outside China.

As for the new one, unless western governments bite the bullet and close their borders to China (and to other countries if the virus starts to spread) a re-run of the COVID-19 spread will be inevitable.
In fact, they need to do that now as a preventive measure, but I bet they will not. Depressing ‘eh ?

That is how the virus came INTO China.
The virus originates in Europe or USA.
In Barcelona, they found the virus in frozen sew water from March 2019.
There were many strange pneumonia cases in Spain, France and Italy last autumn…
Apparently, the Chinese were the first to understand it is the new virus.

It really is odd how so many people eagerly buy into Chinese propaganda.
The fact that the original source animal for the virus is found in the Chinese wet markets just doesn’t matter.

It is really odd you refuse to accept reality, these flu strains are developed in labs that then sell their test animals in open markets along the streets OUTSIDE the labs. Why is that, skippy?

Now I have a Black and Decker drill in my basement which says on it
‘Made in USA’. How old is it would you guess?
Is my laptop with Intel’s chipset inside able to be bought from someplace other than China? Not if you block trade with China.

The brutal truth, which Xi knows well, is that the West no longer makes a very large proportion of the stuff it runs on. Now you can work TOWARD blocking trade with China, but you can’t actually do it for decades to come and I don’t know what that means for our children’s future.

Tests also showed that any immunity humans gain from exposure to seasonal flu does not provide protection from G4.

According to blood tests which showed up antibodies created by exposure to the virus, 10.4 per cent of swine workers had already been infected.

The tests showed that as many as 4.4 per cent of the general population also appeared to have been exposed.

The virus has therefore already passed from animals to humans but there is no evidence yet that it can be passed from human to human — the scientists’ main worry.

“It is of concern that human infection of G4 virus will further human adaptation and increase the risk of a human pandemic,” the researchers wrote.

Ir is G4 EA H1N1. This will tell you more than online rumor and gossip.

A new swine flu virus is in the G4 lot, which should not jump to humans, but has already been found in two human workers in China so far. It is G4 EA H1N1. Chinese government is looking into whether or not this will mutate into another pandemic before long.

https://medicalxpress.com/news/2020-06-swine-flu-strain-china-poses.html

From the article: The work by the researchers is part of an ongoing initiative in China—medical workers have been regularly testing domestic swine for viruses in the hope of catching a virus jumping to humans before it runs rampant. In their paper, the researchers focus on testing that occurred between the years 2011 to 2018—a period during which 179 swine flu strains were found, though the bulk of them were G4. They also found that the infection rate in swine has been rising dramatically since 2016, and G4 is now the most common strain found in Chinese pigs.

The researchers also found that the G4 strain included DNA from 2009’s H1N1 strain, which was behind the pandemic that year. And they found that G4 has jumped to humans—two people with active infections were diagnosed and 10 percent of those known to be exposed to infected pigs had G4 antibodies. The fear is that the G4 strain will continue to evolve to the point that it becomes able to jump from person to person, triggering an outbreak and a possible pandemic. – article

It’s NOT the same old swine flu strain, which we’ve tangled with in the past, nor does it “easily” transmit to humans. Let’s just stop exaggerating things, OK?????

No argument from me, all of you, but I was only relaying what info I had found. Whether or not this piggy bug jumps the fence and infests Hoomans, well — we’ll just have to wait and see on it.

However, should this swine flu bug “mutate” into something that infests Hoomans, it may be easier to create a vaccine for it quickly than what we have so far with CV19.

We’re always one mutation away from a total disaster. When you think about how many viruses there are, it’s clear that disastrous mutations are rare.

My hope is that we can use inexpensive technology, and widespread testing to identify mutations and stop them before they can spread.

One problem is that Chinese prefer their meat freshly slaughtered, preferably by a local butcher. So these animals are transported all over the country and are exposed to many more humans. Last year herds were decimated by the scarlet swine flu. So farmers that recognized the beginning of an epidemic would quickly sell their pigs before they showed signs of infection.

Jean Parisot

That process also impairs the sampling of the herds, generally done in the meat packaging process.
