The 'Gore Effect' Strikes Downunder

Craig Kelly, MP writes:

With Al Gore visiting Canberra today, it’s little surprise that the ‘Al Gore Effect’ has struck again.

The ‘Al Gore Effect’ is defined by the Urban Dictionary as;

“the phenomenon that leads to unseasonably cold temperatures, driving rain, hail, or snow whenever Al Gore visits an area to discuss global warming.”

There are countless examples of Al Gore visiting a city, only for freezing below normal temperatures to strike.

Simply the phenomenon of the ‘Al Gore Affect’ is Mother Nature laughing at Al Gore, as he jet sets around the world preaching that we are all doing to fry, Mother Nature turns on an icy blast of freezing weather.

In Canberra it was only last month that the Bureau of Meteorology foretold that Canberra was likely to experience “a dry and warmer-than-average winter”.

But as Al Gore rolled into Canberra – so to did blizzard conditions, icy temperatures and a big dump of snow in surrounding mountains.

Wasn’t it Peter Oosterhius who once referred to the” Outback Steakhouse” blimp during a PGA tournament as the Outhouse Steakback?
Was Gore in town at the time?

Freezing cold on the Fraser Coast up North of Canberra as well – normally I’m boasting about the T-shirt weather, but tonight, heaters going, wearing a wooly sweater…
Thanks a bunch Al. America, you can take him back now.

Thanks, but no thanks….but maybe we can send him to whichever pole is supposed to melting this week?

Don’t worry about Clive Palmer, he’s into mining etc., but he would have fun with Al Gore if they meet. He is a master of ridicule and he doesn’t care what he says. Role on July 1st when the new senators take over. But Gore will be aiming at the Greens and Labor who will vote against the repeal of course.

Well it’s warmer here in the South west of Western Australia, relatively, 8 C. Thank you Al for taking the cold to Canberra.

Both Al Gore and Australia’s Tim Flannery are the best friends of skeptics. It can almost be guaranteed that when they make a prediction about global warming or about droughts or about hurricanes, or about whatever else tickles their fancy, they will almost always get it wrong! It’s as though Mother Nature is purposely being cruel to them… dishing them punishment for spreading climate alarmist nonsense.

The obvious solution to global warming is send Big Al to every place where there is a heatwave. The heat will be so scared of his presence that it will want to leave days in advance of his arrival.
Hmm, Algore does travel around a lot. Could THIS be the reason for “the pause.”

It seems to me that the Gore effect is spreading bot in area affected and in people infected. (My all time favorite instance was President Obama leaving the Copenhagen UN Climate COP a day early to get back to Washington before a blizzard shut down the airport.)
WUWT had a contest to post the expression from Obama to post as a caption to the picture. The prize was a bag of salt. I won the contest and the salt prize was a lie I never got the prize. I am sure this won’t get posted.

Doesn’t worry Gore, he has his own plane I think. He’ll suggest the cold reception in Canberra was because of extreme weather event caused by global warming. And Clive met the PM and it was considered a constructive meeting with no details. How can they discuss an ETS when it was abolished by K Rudd and Julia said in her political statements ‘There’ll be no carbon tax in any government I lead..’ The mind of Clive is hard to fathom sometimes, other than he isn’t to be trusted.

Really how could he in all conscience stand on a stage next to Clive Palmer while Clive announces his Senators would repeal the carbon tax. In this single act Palmer has converted the Goracle to Goradill!

I wish Al Gore would stay in Australia. This year has been unseasonably warm, with birds never seen here before, coming down from the warmer climates, summer crops still producing well into winter and very low rainfall.
I would particularly like Al to be here over summer. It has been getting that hot during the last few summers, my wife has wanted to get air conditioning. With Al around we won’t need it.
Please stay Al you are needed here.

June 25, 2014 10:16 pm

Blind ignorance or get in the press, Gore I can’t fathom why he even bothered to come to Oz, it seems to bring attention to the arse he is in supporting AGW and carbon credit schemes? If the carbon tax is repealed what would the point be for having carbon credits anyway.

How can the tanking American economy be because of the weather? Has the economy tanked every time there was a cold winter? Are there proportional effects to the economy in a moderately cold winter, like decreasing by 1% per quarter if there are fewer cold days? Where is the scientific basis upon which this association is made? Is economics a science at all? Or have they just been cooking the books for the last few years telling us it was better than it actually was.
And by the way, it is still cold in Wisconsin even though it is officially summer. I’m tired of this.

June 26, 2014 12:41 am

Changes in weather is not the same as changes in climate. So there is no comfort in cold weather as a rebuttal to the science of global warming.

OH al, don’t you know that God thinks you are his personal joke of the century?
If you want to make God laugh, tell him what your plans are.
Al says it’s going to boil, so God makes it freeze, rain, blizzard etc. so lets get Al to go to every drought area in the world, set up a stage with global video links, let him say it will never rain ever again, and vola the drought is finished.

Still no like button – some great comments here.
Not sure if this was noticed, but today the
“VICTORY! I – and the entire Liberal National Coalition – just voted in the House of Reps to repeal the carbon tax. It now goes to the Senate where it will also be passed in about 2 weeks’ time.”
and
“Another great piece of news! The MRRT repeal has also passed the lower house and is expected to pass the Senate when presented.”
Interesting time ahead

Gore was in Norway a few years back to – as you perhaps know it’s not a joke – receive the Nobel Peace Price. After he left we had the Three coldest Winters for more than a hundred years. Being Norway that really says a lot! We hope he’ll never Return …

You know that “algore” means “to cool” in Latin. As in the word Algor mortis

This has been noticed before, that the ancients knew! Gore Effect Goes Way Back (trigger warning, Tim Blair). The ancient Latin word is algor, stressed on the first syllable like in “Igor” or “Alvin.” It means coldness or the cold. It is also the word from which we get “algae,” but Algore is not all washed up in any financial sense, despite the failure of his maniacal manbearpig efforts to prove that he is not boring. He hasn’t endlessly shuffled his papers for nothing.

I notice a lot of ad hom attacks on Al Gore on this thread. I think it is rather poor form allowing these comments to be posted on such a highly esteemed science blog.
All it does is re-inforce the impression that the anti global warming movement have no other arguments and supporters of the anti AGW push are nothing than nasty name callers who cannot think through the scientific arguments. This is doing the cause a lot of damage as 97% of climate scientists are making great progress in collecting data and explaining the climate change we are experiencing. They must be challenged with good quality science and not abuse. Stick to the science and leave the abuse at home where it belongs.

I like your “Bill me later” that really resonates with Australians, that is exactly what got us into the Labor Green Economic chaos, that the Abbott government is trying to recover, so that we wont suffer the Bill me later effects as unexpected expenses hit our doorstep. The Labor/green alliance spent on expensive schemes like the pink insulation batt rollout so rushed and badly administered that young Australians died to install the stuff. The green renewable energy subsidies that ran up everyones electricity bills to prop up this expensive power scheme that we didn’t need to have along with the lost monies on Flannery’s deep hot rock steam drilling project that collapsed, the list of waste is enormous and of course the bills are coming in for this and future generations to pay, in both state and Federal schemes we are still saddled with debt payments far into the future even after voting out the incompetents and we still have the legacy of unions and the socialist left of the greens noisily demanding that they are entitled to such largesse from the Australian taxpayer, and the same economy destroyers standing in the way of any recovery and productivity based job creation growth in this country.
I think we well know that science as it used to be pre AGW has been corrupted with the false adoption and demonization of CO2. It is time to dump that warmist bunkum and yes get back to traditional and falsifiable science, as the other mealy mouthed substitute version has pointed us down a path of economic self destruction
Al Gore and his celebrated lies to promote and protect the continued funding of that meme deserves all the condemnation and scorn we can muster!
Paying our way and living within our means is a great step to rebuilding a sustainable economy and a great base to enable investment in research and education unfettered by climatology agenda and ideology and a return to the trust of science and scientists, and that should suit 100 percent of actual scientists.

Billmelater
June 26, 2014 7:35 pm

KenB, I disagree with you. You are at home heaping scorn, but it is unbecoming of a scientific blog. ‘Terms such as ‘demonization of CO2’ has no currency in science. It is an anthropogenic projection on an inmate substance.
I see that you have had some scientific training and understand the concept of falsifiable science (although not normally expressed that way, but I understand what you mean). Therefore statements such as carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas and the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is increasing. These two facts could explain the the increaseing trend in the surface temperatures. These are clear statements that can be challenged.
While you hold very strong views which I applaud you for, but relying on abuse, scorn naming calling etc, doesn’t help, explain why your views are worth considering. It makes you look as looney as the fellow who claims the world is coming to an end. It is an unsubstantiated opinion.
And by the way, you must not accept statements of people who want to scare you. A report this morning has declared the australian economy is very strong. Not the basket case Tony claims. Once again his claims rely on your ignorance or laziness not to check.

June 26, 2014 7:47 pm

Billmelater,
I agree 100% with your interest in falsifiable science. But I fear you are mistaking what scientific skeptics are saying.
It is the climate alarmist crowd that demonizes “carbon” [by which they mean carbon dioxide, a compound]. They do the demonizing, not skeptics. They are the name-callers. They are the people who will not debate. They are the ones who will not show their data, methods, metadata or methodologies.
Alarmists are pseudo-scientists. They do not want the truth, if it conflicts with their narrative. Skeptics would like nothing better than to get as close to scientific truth as possible — no matter where it leads. If CO2 is dangerous, we want to know. But if it is harmless and beneficial, we want to know that, too. We want knowledge, while they want power. And they will lie and demonize CO2 to get it.
Sometimes we have to fight fire with fire. Because sometimes, there is no alternative.
