Exxon-Mobil joins the 'National Climate Declaration'

People send me stuff.

A dear friend sent me a PDF that contained a description of the ‘National Climate Declaration’ that had some big name company logos stamped all over it. See below:

BICEPClimateDeclaration_9.18[1]

Intrigued, especially since I had never heard of it before, I decided to go to http://www.climatedeclaration.us  I half expected to find it connected to Obama’s OFA or maybe weepy Bill McKibben’s 350.org. Nope.

I was immediately redirected here: http://www.ceres.org/bicep/climate-declaration

Which was my first red flag, it went to an environmental NGO, called “CERES” located in Boston, MA. The website climatedeclaration.us  doesn’t exist as its own website, it’s just web flypaper for the NGO.

I noted that I could sign up as an individual, or as a company. Looking at some of the big name companies there, I decided to see what sort of qualifications and actions might be needed. So, I clicked on that and was presented with a simplistic form. Looking at the web page coding underneath, I decided that there wasn’t likely much more to it, so I decided to put it to the test.

I signed up Pacific Gas and Electric’s well known public information officer, “Reddy Kilowatt” to see if they would reject such an obvious and ridiculous character representing PG&E.

I thought surely they’d have some sort of checks and balances for major corporations to sign up. I thought sure they’d have some sort of requirement to prove that your corporation was indeed a responsible steward of the environment, and against climate change not only in words, but in deeds.

Sadly, no. See the screencaps:

I thought to myself, why stop there?

It seems they’ll take anybody with a mascot:

exxon_tiger

Exxon-Mobile_signup

And predictably, I got a confirmation email.

Exxon-Mobile_signup_email

Looks like the ‘National Climate Declaration’ is just another green petition scam that anybody with an email address can join. I suspect they’ll hit you up later for donations. I’ll advise if that happens.

I take it you are incapable of noticing the collectivist bent. Take the references to “we” out.

OK, we can do that.

Cold Fusion Course (non-credit) at MIT:
http://my.firedoglake.com/metamars/2013/02/18/cold-fusion-course-at-mit-last-month-enviros-and-fossil-fuel-junkies-both-pretend-not-to-notice/

This is the problem with … um, can I use the term, the ‘Keepers Of Odd Knowledge’ (K.O.O.K. for short) have is, they fail, time after time to cite or reference the ‘principals’ (or principal material) in (or on) the controversial subjects they engage in.
Rather than link to a ‘fringe’ website like FDL, WHY NOT link to the actual videos of the MIT IAP course itself (conducted by the principals Drs Hagelstein and Swartz)? Hmmm? Ya got something against ‘principal evidence’ maybe? Rather than be fed the ‘thin’ soup through some intermediate website like firedoglake (that name making NO sense whatsoever BTW) …
If you have ANY scientific or physics background AT ALL, you will appreciate viewing that course as conducted THIS YEAR (2014) at MIT back in late January (27th thru 31st) … full set of vids (about 15 hours total) can be accessed HERE:
http://www.youtube.com/user/ColdFusionNow
To any one else, PLEASE view the referenced video series (in their entirety – about 15 hrs worth!) before making comment. This video series covers the subject from soup to nuts beginning with a review of Pons and Fleischmann (and before, including phenoms seen by other researchers involving Hydrogen loading of Palladium) and the factors that were discovered which prevented various other labs from replicating the _results_ P and F saw.

Exxon-Mobil knows that world needs their products. I know that the world needs their products. Most of the readers of this blog probably know that the world needs their products. The concept of the inelastic demand curve is taught in Economics 101.
If the “National Climate Declaration”, or the EPA, or Greenpeace, or anyone else, manages to artificially inflate the price of Exxon-Mobil products, then guess what? The world will still need Exxon-Mobil products. They will still be produced. They’ll just be more expensive. Exxon-Mobil, or successors, will still be there.
Whether they have genuinely signed up to this declaration or not, they can afford to bide their time and pay lip service to fashionable political movements as they go along.

Isn’t anybody going to sign up Hezbollah and Hamas. Both outfits are favorites of the left and each can deliver the big bang for the cause.

You must have a hard life, indeed, having to suffer KOOK’s, such as myself, who dared to link to their own diary which, they knew, they had provided links to IAP courses, themselves. How ever did you manage survival, having to look up a link to an even more recent MIT course, which a lesser mortal, like myself, was not aware of? I’ll bet you would have sacrificed your very life, to prevent the readers of WUWT from doing a 10 second google search, eh? You’re quite an extraordinary human being, aren’t you?
For you information, I have a bachelor’s degree in physics and math, and have done graduate work in applied math. Thankfully, I never had a professor as obnoxious as you.

The government can make or break the big oil companies, and not just through the withholding of licenses. Imagine all the dirt the NSA has on their execs. Mistresses, odd sexual proclivities, family scandals, insider trading etc. The big oil companies are more beholden to the government than almost any other entity.

a followup to the brown nose comments: years ago our friends from Japan were eager to learn American slang, and were curious about our term “110 ohm nose”.
We explained: standard marking for a 110 ohm resistor = 3 brown rings.

I’m a retired Navy Electronics Technician…and in the 32 years since I graduated from “A” School, I have NEVER heard that one!! Gah! The things I missed out on!!
I can’t even say we didn’t need that term ’cause we didn’t have any brown nosers—!
Oh, the opportunities missed!!!

Does this mean that they think they can make money cleaning up the environment? Isn’t that a good thing?

Does NCAR/UCAR have mascot that can join the party.
I am sure Ken T. would not mind. Maybe he would find his missing heat….

March 4, 2014 3:17 pm

Exxon Mobil joining the scam comes as no surprise – contrary to the hypocrisy spouted by alarmists, it is they and not skeptics who are financed by Big Oil. Big Oil funds and encourages alarmism because it expects to make money off the carbon credits promoted by alarmists (the credits being an increment to consumer costs, effectively transferring wealth from low- and middle-income people to billionaires)..

Great video! They were still using the “Put a Tiger in your Tank” when I was a kid… but all in all, I preferred Tigger to Tony Tiger..! (Hawaya?)

Tell ya a secret I learned in the Navy: anyone can find a reason to say something can’t be done. The sailor who says, “Sure! Let’s give it a whirl!” is someone to watch, carefully, ’cause he’s likely to do something dangerous! What kind of sailor does something without threats from the Chief??!? But I digress: I used to think there were only two kinds of people in the world: those that thought there were only two kinds of people, and those who didn’t care about such things. Then I learned I was really the THIRD kind of people— It goes like this: a pessimist sees the glass as half empty, and an optimist sees it as half full, right? Well I’M a SUPER-optimist, because I sees it as I’m halfway to my next beer!
Sadly, it’s Tuesday, and I gotta work tomorrow (sorry, dirty fourLetterWord!), so I’m drinking coffee, the sailor’s other vice…
Oh, but I was telling about the three mos’ dangerous things in the Navy, least to most: An Ensign saying, “In MY experience…”, a Lieutenant saying, “Hey! I’ve got this GREAT idea!” and most dangerous, the XO saying, “Gentlemen, this one should be easy….”
So I just signed the petition as C.O. Jones, with the company Huevos de Torros of Bahia de Kino in Sonora… Sorta my own way of saying, “Nuts!” to ’em for their nonsense….(I hope there ain’t a real person at cojonesgmail….!)

Hey, Jones, C. O., LOL. Good — for — you. So glad you are feeling perky enough to write such a fun post. Iprayedforyoulastnightandtoday. Take care. Hope tomorrow is a better day! J.

Not sure where the aflatus for ol’ Cojo came from, but I gotta say, I LIKE that one! Unfortunately, someone already has that gmail account name..! Waaaaaah!
Ok, I feel better. Been a rough weekend. Flu. Snow. Deadlines that won’t go away and let me die quietly. On t’other hand, it’s just not in me to feel sorry for myself too long, and I’m such an obnoxious patient I annoy myself!
Gladta hear you’re well! Again, thanks for the positive thoughts & wishes…

GE not on board yet? They’re usually reddy to kill a watt in the name of environmental purity.

The other company I was wondering about did manage to get signed up, though:

I just now tried the link http://www.climatedeclaration.us and got a “page not found”.
Is there a place that I could view all the registered entities that joined on?
I wanted to register. I feel like I’ve been left out in the cold.
