People send me stuff.
A dear friend sent me a PDF that contained a description of the ‘National Climate Declaration’ that had some big name company logos stamped all over it. See below:
Intrigued, especially since I had never heard of it before, I decided to go to http://www.climatedeclaration.us I half expected to find it connected to Obama’s OFA or maybe weepy Bill McKibben’s 350.org. Nope.
I was immediately redirected here: http://www.ceres.org/bicep/climate-declaration
Which was my first red flag, it went to an environmental NGO, called “CERES” located in Boston, MA. The website climatedeclaration.us doesn’t exist as its own website, it’s just web flypaper for the NGO.
I noted that I could sign up as an individual, or as a company. Looking at some of the big name companies there, I decided to see what sort of qualifications and actions might be needed. So, I clicked on that and was presented with a simplistic form. Looking at the web page coding underneath, I decided that there wasn’t likely much more to it, so I decided to put it to the test.

I signed up Pacific Gas and Electric’s well known public information officer, “Reddy Kilowatt” to see if they would reject such an obvious and ridiculous character representing PG&E.
I thought surely they’d have some sort of checks and balances for major corporations to sign up. I thought sure they’d have some sort of requirement to prove that your corporation was indeed a responsible steward of the environment, and against climate change not only in words, but in deeds.
Sadly, no. See the screencaps:
I thought to myself, why stop there?
It seems they’ll take anybody with a mascot:
And predictably, I got a confirmation email.
Looks like the ‘National Climate Declaration’ is just another green petition scam that anybody with an email address can join. I suspect they’ll hit you up later for donations. I’ll advise if that happens.

You have discovered a theme-specific automatron website. They drive the conversation, you just float along. The only thing that matters to these sites is a valid email address and once they have that they stop listening and start talking.
These sites are designed around the principle that a sucker is born every minute and that many of them have computers. I think it was Bill Gates who first made this additional connection – these same people draw a paycheck. That is a resource.

Well when you get to “Lord Arsen Seatpants of the Handshuffle Wank Bank” you can save your time. We don’t really do much business anyway…
Cynicism reigns.
@DocBud
Mmmm … Murphy’s Irish Stout.
But of course, this can’t be true.
All Warmers know that all Big business, and especially Big Oil, is sending sceptics trillions of dollars to keep up Denialist blogs.
And most sceptics know that the Warmers are a pushing a crypto-Marxist plot to turn the entire world into version of North Korea.
So the idea that Big business is pushing the Warmist line does not fit either view.
Off topic, but could be an opportunity…beer and climate change. ..to expand Monday night chat.
Marie Louisa Murphy was a favored model of French artist, Francois Boucher who she posed nude for in this memorable and provocative portrait in Paris. Her beauty caught the eye of a royal valet who then introduced her to King Louis XV of France. According to brewery legend, Marie Louisa Murphy was the daughter of Daniel Murphy (‘Dan The Cobbler’), granduncle of James. J. Murphy, and the money she sent back from France provided the funding for the Murphy family’s business ventures, one of which was the brewery in Cork. Courtesy of the Murphy’s web cite.
…could not locate any Green beer.
This is, of course the realization of Dwight D. Eisenhower’s military-industrial complex warning that Oliver K. Manuel obsesses over endlessly. Ike was right, btw. It was only a matter of time before the three branches of government formed an unholy union with big business for the sole purpose of self-advancement, all within the bounds of the constitution, all enforceable by the nuclear might of the US military. That’s what happens when you don’t pay attention to the importance, health, and well-being of the 10th amendment.
“….I suspect they’ll hit you up later for donations.” “…and it’s simply the right thing to do.”
I can see you now in your fresh out of the mail box T-shirt.

That was a bit off the page.
Now it’s really off the page … literally. 🙂
Guess the Harrison quote can go as well.
the Australian Govt is attempting to repeal CAGW legislation, which it was elected into office to do, but is being blocked in the Senate by Labor & Greens.
the Govt tries to point out the cost to business & individuals at every turn, but the MSM immediately rushes out headlines such as the following, which makes you want to scream:
Qantas contradicts govt: ‘carbon tax not to blame’
Alcoa denies carbon tax led to closures, job shedding
Rio Tinto: Carbon tax ‘not to blame’ for Gove closure
a little truth at Phys.org in the headline & opening paras but, from there, it’s all about how to have all the regulation anyway, because of “the urgency of coping with global warming” etc. ***the awful truth!
4 Mar: Phys.org: Clifton B. Parker: Carbon regulation burden heaviest on poor
The heaviest burden for climate change regulation costs falls on people – especially lower income groups – and not corporations, according to new Stanford research…
***The reason is that companies ultimately pass on those costs to people.
For the poor, basic necessities take up a bigger chunk of the budget than for the rich…
http://phys.org/news/2014-03-carbon-burden-heaviest-poor.html
Green beer also was a derogatory aspersion to mean a beer was not aged or had been produced through some short-cut process. One of those opportunity seize the moment things. It could have been the first action of the “Green” movement; cheapening out by making bad beer. Or at least produce a movement of another sort. Definitely not the right thing to do. 🙂 Stick with the Murphy’s…your teeth will like you for it.
“For the poor, basic necessities take up a bigger chunk of the budget than for the rich…”
Good point. All the efforts by the Green Enviros have left the poor even further from what the “haves” have. The cost of energy and other moves have punished the poor the hardest.
I’ve been following the debate on CAGW since the 97/98 timeframe when I figured out for myself much to my chagrin and amazement that there was only the most remote possibility that the GCMs would be validated, as I understand the term (i.e. that accuracy had been established)
For a long time Exxon- Mobil was the bete noire that warmists would immediately castigate as the source of all evil.
Now it’s the Koch brothers, so how did this change come about.
I didn’t correlate this at the time, however I suspect that the change probably came about because of the exchange between the Priesthood at the Royal (Scientism) Society and XOM.

Big oil/gas does very nicely out of the CAGW scam – billions in subsidies to “do the right thing” by investing in inefficient renewables, plus the destruction of coal as an alternative energy source.
this is what the CSIRO and BOM have to say http://www.news.com.au/national/breaking-news/bom-csiro-make-dire-climate-predictions/story-e6frfku9-1226844241944
Hilarious.
The only disadvantage is that we can no longer use a site like this to select the companies we want to boycott.
Now with the new ice age starting in 2014 sanity should return soon:

My information about Detroit squelching energy saving technology came from my Resident Advisor in college. A good friend of his worked in a Big Auto company, he came up with something big to save gas (no recollection of what). He got a big raise, a promotion, and the technology was shelved.
This made no sense to me, as better fuel consumption should help sell autos, until I heard Gary Null report on interlocking boards at major corporations.

“I’ve often referred to Exxon-Mobil as the “Climate Change Denier Dog that Didn’t Bark”. With their deep pockets, they could crush CAGW mythology. ”
Big Oil is FOR carbon reduction policies. It puts their competition coal out of business.
The CRU at UEA has been founded with money from BP, for instance.
I can’t believe how deep the delusion is. Would be hilarious if the situation wasn’t so…well – desperate – we’re throwing so much money at this issue and there’s so much legislation and so many EPA rules….I fear what will happen if people don’t wake up soon…
Download the “kit”. It doesn’t copy well, so I couldn’t post it – the last page is really nauseating. If they succeed, it will totally destroy the economy (as if it hasn’t already)
To those who say “I’m creating a list of companies to boycott.” Don’t. You will play right into the eco-zealots hands.
Here is a (EMS i.e. David Fenton) press release from 1998 about CERES
I guess Polaroid saw the light and Coca-Cola discovered that IPCC science wasn’t the real thing. Fenton, as many readers of WUWT will know is the PR guru who set up RealClimate.org.
Mindy Lubber is President of CERES. Here is a page about her at the Skoll Foundation (i.e. Jeff Skoll, first president of eBay, executive producer and financier of An Inconvenient Truth). And her (inevitable) HuffPo page.
Incidentally, here is another (1997) EMS breakfast with John Kerry and Joe Romm.
And another (1998) with Kevin Trenberth.
