The Tuesday Titter – Mannte's Inferno

Heh, I saw this last night, and I made a screencap early on but decided not to comment about it. But since Tom Nelson has put it out there, I thought maybe I should bring attention to it now.

Dr. Michael Mann sure has interesting and entertaining Facebook friends, at least the ones that are allowed to comment.

Mann_handled2

Heh, Kelly Anspaugh, (PhD in Twentieth Century Literature and Literary Theory) climate expert, please tell us how you really feel.

Tom Nelson reminds us of this other gem from Dr. Mann’s Facebook page:

One person’s maggot is another’s friend I suppose.

Sorry Anthony, I must have missed the troll alert to bomb his comment section.
You should make louder announcements so I don’t miss them.

”PhD in Twentieth Century Literature and Literary Theory”? Hmmm… I’m not sure, but I think that might trump my bachelor’s degree in Twentieth Century Beer and Pretzel Theory. OK, Dr. A has won me over to his side. 🙂

This is the intriguing thing about their mind set… the religious iconography. Young Earth Creationists are not a popular group among Sceptics either, however I recall few Sceptics demanding these individuals be punished for Thought Crime.

Erik Loomis, Assistant Professor, American History, University of Rhode Island, is another social sciences academic engaging in vitriolic disparagement of anyone disputing Climate Change or Global Warming Alarmism along with an assortment of other other “Progressive” political causes. His latest missives on Twitter, Twitchy, his own blog, and other blogs resulted in an interview with the Rhode Island state police. The blogosphere reacted to what he claims to be no more than metaphors as threats the murder of the NRA Presideent and other people he hates or despises for their political activities with which he disagrees. His dislike of people disputing climate change has also prompted his intemperate language. So much for the scientific method and civility in academia.

Erik Loomis has suddenly disabled his Twitter account after a visit from the police. His vile comments can be read here.

“…Looks like he was an English teacher who wanted to correct the science teacher’s position about Global Warming:
(Kelly Anspaugh’s account of what happened to him)…”
Classic! He rails against “conspiracy theorists,” yet claims his firing was a well-woven web of conspiracy by the admin to protect their crony.
Oh the irony! I wonder if the PhD in Twentieth Century Literature and Literary Theory is capable of grasping it.
But why stop there? Dr. Anspaugh took issue with this other OSU profs credentials, yet who was teaching a class that “will focus on the issue of contemporary attacks on science, more specifically the attack on climate science by ‘contrarian’ thinkers?” None other than Dr. Anspaugh himself.

Beetle larvae usually consume dead matter.

Depends on the species. Some destroy live forests, others roots and yet others leafy greens. On the other hand, the matter is dead by the time it passes the mouth and we can look through its pockets for loose change.

One has to wonder how many Dr. Kelly Anspaugh’s there could be so deeply tied to OSU (and living in a town of Ada, 16 miles from Lima)…safe to assume this is the same fellow. More irony follows when you take a look at his views on the NCAA and football coach Jim Tressel’s resignation of shame a few years ago. Enjoy.
http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/sports/2011/06/13/0612-extra-letters-to-dispatch-sports-editor-ray-stein.html
“…Editor: What the Tressel resignation shows is how absolute power leads to insanity. My reference is not to Tressel’s power but the power of the NCAA. The officials at that strange institution are as capricious in their judgments and actions as the Gods of Olympus. I suppose we should be grateful that Tressel was permitted to resign. The NCAA could have ordered that his house be stormed, the coach shot in the head, and his body dumped in Mirror Lake.
Dr. Kelly C. Anspaugh, Ada…”

Yes, Loomis is defending his tweets as being metaphoric and not literal threats or incitement of violence. Then he proceeds to castigate his targets as terrorists after using what he claims to be no more than metaphorical threats to kill and behead his political targets. Having provoked a reaction from the victims of his vitriol, Loomis now complains about being subjected to their unwanted responses.
Neil O’Brien was suspended from Fresno State University for questioning professors about some alleged racist conduct and policies at the university. Among the questions was the rationale for tolerating the university publication of a poem encouraging the killing of “white savages.” The professors went so far as to call the campus security police to have O’Brien arrested for his threatening conduct, but the police declined after seeing the student’s video recording showing he made no threats and only asked permissable questions about policies. Unhappy with the outcome, the professors retaliated by bringing the student before a university disciplinary committee predisposed with like minds, and they suspended the senior from the university.
It is no wonder under such regimes to find faculty and student dissent to the alarmist Climate Change politics is under suppression.

RE Michael Jankowski’s post at 6:00 pm:
Here’s the description of a course taught by Anspaugh:

English 367.01: Intermediate Essay Writing 5 Credits
English 367 is designed to assist students in advancing their analytical writing skills beyond those developed in freshman composition. Central to this course is the acquisition of skills necessary to produce research papers with MLA documentation style as well as annotated bibliographies. In this section we will focus on the issue of contemporary attacks on science, more specifically the attack on climate science by “contrarian” thinkers. We will be reading history, journalism, fiction, and watching documentaries. Satisfies GEC requirements for a second writing course and a course in social diversity.
MW 8:00 – 10:00 Kelly Anspaugh

Why just teach a course on writing essays when you can propagandize your students and bully them into conformity with your views? Anspaugh no doubt views himself as a free thinker. Oh the irony.

Brad who says: HArd to blame him for comments made by others as these threads get pretty nasty too, that said, the comments he has made himself mirror the sentiment.
I couldn’t disagree with you more. I find the WUWT pages to be witty, insightful with a droll humor that I love. I sometimes laugh so hard–there really is disucssion here–with references to back up claims–there really is open discussion and a generosity to thsoe who openly question the skeptic position. We don’t assisnate people–poke so well deserved fun at them, but tell them to go to hell and boil in s**t? What are you talking about?
What I see is vastly different from you. Anything “nasty” is pretty much snipped–and I appreciate it.

I followed the link to http://thesoapboxrantings.blogspot.com/2012/07/dr-kelly-c-anspaugh-fired-for-standing.html as noted in a couple of posts above. Anspaugh has some issues that he should seek professional help with. It seems that his cork has popped.

Dante didn’t deserve to have his magnificent, great-hearted poem abused by the likes of Kelly C. Anspaugh; but it happens all the time, and what’s wonderful is how the abuse of small people doesn’t make the poem smaller. Proof of its greatness, I suppose.
Agree with the commenters who enjoy the quality of discussion at WUWT. I always learn good stuff here, and often what I learn is how valuable, because rare, are good humor and goodwill. Thanks all.

It appears that the inmates are running the academic institutions as an asylum of their making. A serious evaluation needs to be made with regards to the “educators” within our academic institutions.

Erik Loomis is convinced that the people who are skeptical of manmade Climate Change is putting his wild coffee plants at risk of extinction, so he won’t be able to afford a cup of coffee by the end of the century. He is also complaining about being intimidated for his saying he wanted NRA members heads on a pike. Go figure….

I researched the two and I found that Ackerman’s “overall quality” rating was 4.8 compared to Anspaugh at 3.5.

It takes a very special kind of person who, as a professor with a PhD in literature, gets fired for attacking a professor of climate science on the subject climate change.

But that’s the confusing part. I can find an OSU-Lima faculty listing for a Dr William Vaughn Ackerman, but his degrees are geography with his work looking like sociology.
There is an Amazon Profile for Dr. William V. Ackerman, of his two reviews one was a highly favorable one for Lawrence Solomon’s 2008 book The Deniers: The World Renowned Scientists Who Stood Up Against Global Warming Hysteria, Political Persecution, and Fraud* (*And those who are too fearful to do so).
He’s no climate scientist, and purists may complain he’s not a real scientist as he does geography and sociology. But he sounds eminently qualified to declare the prophesied societal disruptions from CAGW to be complete bunkum, with actual knowledge of how local populations react to long-term weather patterns (aka climate).
Anspaugh doesn’t appear to have the facts right, e.g. it sure doesn’t look like Ackerman has retired etc. He unleashed the ultimate leftist political slur, calling Ackerman a “right-wing tea-partier”.
Looks like Anspaugh was just another “Professor Behaving Badly”, who thought being in academia granted him an unlimited right to disparage whomever however and whenever he wanted, including fellow professors and the institution that employed them both. Now that reality slapped him upside the head, he’s complaining about “cozy associations” that lead to him getting fired for being a noisy troublemaker.
Apparently his being a total disrespectful prat has not been considered by him as a possible reason for his dismissal.
