The Elephant We’re All Inside – Junk Journalism on Climate, or Too Big to Cover?

The irony is just too thick, I’ll leave it to WUWT’s readers to pass judgement on this one… Just The Facts

From ABC News – The Elephant We’re All Inside – Junk Journalism on Climate, or Too Big to Cover? – By Bill Blakemore – Excerpts Follow:

“A number of the world’s professional climate scientists are perplexed by — and in some cases furious with — American news directors.

“Malpractice!” is typical of the charges this reporter has heard highly respected climate experts level — privately, off the record — at my professional colleagues over the past few years.

Complaints include what seems to the scientists a willful omission of overwhelming evidence the new droughts and floods are worsened by man made global warming, and unquestioning repetition, gullible at best, of transparent anti-science propaganda credibly reported to be funded by fossil fuel interests and anti-regulation allies.”

“Why this decline in persistent coverage?

It seems unlikely to last; all responsibly sourced reports from around the world — “as solid as science ever gets,” say eminent climate scientists — suggest the increasing impacts will soon force news directors to offer more coverage and explanatory reporting to a public that will appreciate getting it.”

“‘A Crime Against Humanity’

A number of climate scientists have told this reporter they agree with those, including NASA scientist James Hansen, who charge fossil fuel CEOs are thus guilty of a “crime against humanity,” given the calamity that unregulated greenhouse emissions are quickly bringing on.”

“The Many Findings at Nature’s Edge

In our “Nature’s Edge” reporting at ABC News, begun several years ago with the aim of getting our arms around the daunting climate story by putting it in the context of all sorts of “news from where nature and human nature meet,” we have found some delightful and surprising new avenues opening up.

One of the basic premises of the Nature’s Edge reports, in both video and digital print, is that the global warming story is clearly a story about the question, “What will the humans do?” — and therefore a story about the need to understand human nature better — even overall collective human nature, as a species, so to speak — for upon it may rest any success in dealing well with this immense crisis.”

Remind anyone else of Hansen giving his 2,348th on-the-job interview claiming he wasn’t allowed to speak out?
Can we just call statements like these “open lies” now, or have we still not reached the point where we can be that forthright?

Last night (Sunday, 09/09/12) my comment (below) was snipped from the ABC News posting of comments on Blakemore’s column. Probably because I referred to the writer as “deranged” (?).
“This is alarmism of the worst order, a terrible account by a deranged mind. There is ample evidence that droughts and floods and hurricanes and tornadoes and heat waves are cyclical. There is no cause for alarm.
What is the MECHANISM by which a tiny molecule like carbon dioxide can cause weather events? The CO2 produced by humans is only a small fraction of the off-gassing by warming oceans and decaying vegetation. CO2 is only .04 of 1% of the earth’s atmosphere. It can’t possibly have an effect on the weather.
Analysis of the 400,000-year ice cores in the Antarctic shows carbon dioxide concentrations increasing AFTER warming has taken place, not before. CO2 is released by the oceans when they warm. Global warming increases levels of CO2 in the atmosphere, not the other way around.
The writer needs to look at authors who are DISPUTING carbon dioxide theory in order to do his evaluation of the evidence. As long as governments and private foundations continue to throw money at climate modelers instead of real scientists, we will have to put up with this kind of Chicken Little attitude and the harmful policies of attrition and austerity it is designed to foster.
The article itself is the “atrocity”.

Here is formerly well respected and now a true blue sky is falling AGW goof, TV meteorologist Paul Douglas’s latest silly screed
Excerpts:

As a Republican business owner, entrepreneur, meteorologist and father of two upbeat, optimistic boys, I may not fit the stereotype of a “global warming alarmist.” I’m an Evangelical Christian. I’m enthusiastic about streamlining government and letting the markets work. But unlike some, I see no inherent struggle between my faith and the ability of science to improve our understanding of the world. The Creator gave me a brain, to think and reason, and react to facts on the ground. And I’m disillusioned, because some in my party are pro-science-denial, and on the wrong side of history … our fossil fuel frenzy is impacting the weather floating above our heads. Denying that it’s raining doesn’t keep you from getting wet, and climate change has gone from theory to reality – while our side fiddles away like Nero
We’ve experienced 7 times more record highs than record lows in 2012; expect that lop-sided ratio to continue. Meteorologists will be spending more precious airtime tracking brushfires — when they’re not warning of impending floods. Nights will trend warmer and fewer subzero outbreaks will reach the continental US, a big silver lining for many. But both Greenland and the Arctic are melting faster than computer models predicted, with the Arctic shattering the old record set in 2007. Scientists were once predicting it would be ice-free in 2080 or 2090. Considering this acceleration we’re seeing, they’re now saying it could be as early at 2030, and some have even said 2015. You heard right. More water absorbing sunlight and less ice reflecting sunlight is accelerating a feedback effect, speeding the warming we’re already witnessing, worldwide.

Just the tip of his lengthy admonishment and Top 10 Reasons to do something ….Looney Tunes in action.
What is truly sad is he is a successful technical innovator when it comes to weather information and distribution having made millions building and selling weather tech companies.

“The Creator gave me a brain”
And then forbade you to use it (tree of knowledge).

“this immense crisis” — which doesn’t exist. The only “crises” are the OTT efforts to siphon off significant fractions of the global economy into the hands of warmists and their financial enablers and collaborators.
