Sunday Silly

Measuring temperature has its risks and uncertainties, you can bank on it.

Is this how we visually frame the “Hottest Year Ever”?

Here’s the location in warmer times. The location is reminiscent of some other thermometers in parking lots we’ve seen.

Open pedant mode
It can’t be in Kelvin because the unit is just … K.
&#176C Celsius. (Centigrade is dead – long live Celsius!)
&#176F Fahrenheit.
But just plain … K

Doesn’t this site recognize html degree symbol?

A clever trick if I ever did see one!
Nice to finally see the actual output of a GISS “adjustment” in real time.

Who in their right mind would design a sensor/display that could go up to +266? Either a serious software glitch or Photoshop. The display does seem very bright, considering the snowstorm. I like the Kelvin concept, but why the “+”? We ever get “-” Kelvins, we be in serious trouble.
Silly? Yes. Skeptical? Yes.

Rule number one of pedantry. Get it right!

This is when GISS Hansen would tell everyone to trust the thermometers and not what they observe outside.

I think the real temp is either -2°C or -10°F depending how the instrumentation works. I think somewhere a signed int (or short) is being used as a long int without proper typecasting.

Oh it is 266, I read it as 268 when I did my C correction calc, and forgot to redo it after I realized my mistake. I have a bad flu and am a bit muzzy today 🙁

A bit of 250km smearing will make sure you enjoy a mild winter and will be demonstraed “in a peer reviewed published in all the right journals paper” with ample Steigian red to make the point.
Or just a cold day in Hell?

I had to e-mail Accuweather one evening in August when the temps said 15C and the Real-Feel temp was -129C which made me chuckle. August was pretty cool in the UK, but not quite that cool (my high was only around 21C). It’s a shame it doesn’t go the other way with the MSM questioning heat records being broken as claimed by the likes of GISS.
