God indeed has a sense of humor. From Weather Underground:
Here’s the actual METAR data, showing 10°C (50.0°F):
According to the Mexican National Meteorological Service, the record low temp for December is 12°C (53.6F) see table here: Cancun_climate (PDF)
According to this page lowest for December is 52°F (11°C)
http://www.cancun-discounts.com/cancun-weather.htm
Either way, 50°F is a new record for December low temperature, and it couldn’t happen at a more inconvenient time for the Cancun COP16 climate conference.

On second thought, make that a hot toddy.
I was thinking about this Gore effect hitting Cancun earlier this afternoon.
I open WUWT now and what do I see?
Since we’re all so comfortably settled in the “weather not climate” department. and since we should always check everything both ways, would someone like to check the accuracy of this item (apart from the fact that it has jumped the gun by appearing before the end of 2010):
http://climatesignals.org/2010/11/2010-records-most-national-extreme-heat-records-ever/
2010 records most national extreme heat records ever
The year 2010 now has the most national extreme heat records for a single year–nineteen. These nations comprise 20% of the total land area of Earth. This is the largest area of Earth’s surface to experience all-time record high temperatures in any single year in the historical record.
No nations set record for their coldest temperature in history in 2010
In Paris, after it began to snow on Wednesday of November 8, the situation was very serious.
This is not a best translation but it gives a clear insight into the problems. Thousands of people were blocked on the roads and had to spend the night in their cars or in shelters.

Did any of them pack a jacket? I hope they freeze their (expletives) off…
Sorry MattN – doubt you’ll find many of those there – especially on the men

Apart from the fact the you’re always saying that weather isn’t climate, you’re attacking a straw man. Who ever claimed that a trend towards average warming would mean that it would be +.x everywhere on the planet at all times? There are also these things called seasons which have effects which are several magnitudes greater than any current warming effect. Weather and climate are chaotic systems. It’s equally plausible that AGW would result in extremes of temperature depending on when and where you are.
[I am certain you will agree that your first sentence was not part of nor conducive to intelligent discourse….. bl57~mod]
The Gore effect seems to spreading and is touching most of the globe. It is apt at this point in time, for the past six months the reports of the warmest year ever have been shrill and often. This seems to be fading as the population the world over has seen a profound reversal of all the alarmist predictions. In Oz we have or own Gore called Tim Flannery, whom almost single handed convinced our less than intelligent state governments that normal rain fall is a thing of the past and they borrowed and spent billions on pipe lines and desal plants, they are now mothballing one that was just finished and the mother of huge plants in my state was built on a flood plain and for six months has been rather unfit for construction.
Most of the population are brain washed by the MSM to AGW but the Gore/Flannery Effect carried on for much longer will force even our entrenched media to recant or at least shut up. The mood of the populace is changing as seen by surveys the Agw thing is fading. It is now the politicians that are the main useful idiots and emails with facts and displeasures in quantity can go a long way.
No, you got it all backwards. Obviously, Gaia is extremely pleased with these gatherings to battle AGW, and rewards their zeal by lowering temps a little. If we can just have more such conferences, AGW will eventually be defeated, even if they never come up with any other effective migitation!

“Al farmed Tobacco behind Mules too,…”
Yeah, sure. Just like he invented the internet. Sure, uh-huh, right.
OTOH, I’ll give him credit if he claims to have walked 3 miles to school – uphill, both ways – through 4 feet of snow. We all did that back then.
Oh, wait… Al went to prep school…. nevermind.

There are daily swings in temperature in almost all places on the planet that dwarf all and any sign of AGW. The ability to measure properly and accurately over the globe, through the depth of the atmosphere is way beyond us. And yet, less than one degree of warming over 100 years has apparently been measured, despite the daily 10 to 20 degree swings, and even larger annual swings.
Yes, they are chaotic systems. Could that be the reason for all these highs and lows? Nothing to do with a tiny amount of CO2?
It is equally plausible that chaos is the reason for these swings, and even these recent increases, in temperature, and it looks like they have stopped increasing now, backing up that reason.
It is equally plausible that instrument differences are the cause of any temperature increases last century.
It is equally plausible that UHI is the cause of any temperature increases last century.
None of these are funny. Global Warming Delegates freezing their knackers off at 10 degrees in the tropics is priceless, however.
dear moderator, I have no problem with you removing it, mostly because it was a false dichotomy. however, ad hominem posts are de rigueur on this site, but because the targets are not posters, they are not moderated out.

“Nothing to do with a tiny amount of CO2?”
They tiny amount of CO2 as a proportion of the atmosphere is largely irrelevant. The amount of CFCs that caused a hole in the ozone layer was also small. You also state that:
1. “It is equally plausible that chaos is the reason for these swings, and even these recent increases, in temperature, and it looks like they have stopped increasing now, backing up that reason.
2. “It is equally plausible that instrument differences are the cause of any temperature increases last century.”
3. “It is equally plausible that UHI is the cause of any temperature increases last century.”
So how do you reconcile 1, 2 and 3. The average temperature either is or is not rising. If it’s stopped rising as you suggest then has UHI stopped and we’ve gone back to using the old measurement devices? You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
Here in Scotland, temperatures are back to normal for a few days before the freeze resumes.
Flooding, from snow-melt, is taking place. Nothing of surprise there.
The BBC, still managed to spin the message.
“Temperatures are,in many places, 20 degrees (C) higher than last week”
Forget the record lows. Look at the anomaly! We’re all going to fry.
There is a prediction of 48f low for Sunday the 12th Here.

I believe that you folks are all making the same logical mistake in assuming the colder temperature in Cancun will bother the alarmists one iota.
Remember, it’s warmth that concerns them most, they want a colder world. ;~P

“Records for Cancun only appear to go back to 1974 then get spotty. For instance if you change the date to Dec. 8th, 1973 there is no data. There’s some data for November 1973 but I didn’t find any before that.”
What dates does GISTEMP use for their average? And what was [CO2] in 1974?
@Smokey.
Hilarious come-back to John :0)
So much clicking. So much mirth.
I’m proud that Ohio can claim you as son.
Perhaps if the IPCC wishes to halt (and maybe reverse) global warming, they should hold weekly or monthly meetings in various parts of the world.
Although they are likley to get the frequency wrong and send us into an ice age.

Misquoting or ridiculing Al Gore does not help in your case against AGW. You lose credibility every time you do it.
Lose credibility in whose opinion? The alarmists? Oh noes!
Get a life, while we have a laugh.

Wasn’t that song by ‘Crowded House’?
I note EMI are now blocking their artists vids on youtube
Ah, but they only want cooling LONG after they’ve instituted their CO2 deprivation-fueled global coup d’etat! Timing is everything.
Gore effect? Nah, there’s another reason for it.
Even God doesn’t want to see Pachauri on the beach wearing only a banana hammock.

Is the Gulf Stream still working?
If 2010 is to be listed as the warmest year of the 21st century, that means the next 90 will be colder? Pack you woolen undies folks.
