Of course, the big news this week had to do with the unbelievably vile and stupid video produced by the carbon reduction activist group 10:10 this week. But in its shadow, was another embarrassing news item the you’d think the green crowd would also want to denounce and distance from. Joe Romm and Bill McKibben have announced they detest the 10:10 video. Good for them, that’s the right thing to do, and I applaud them for doing it.
But Joe couldn’t resist his urges to get some licks in with his usual flaming rhetoric, making sure that his readers get reinforced with the message: 10:10 video bad, Watts bad. That’s not a surprise, as it is his standard predictable MO. Mr. Romm is as easy to forecast as DC summer weather; hot, muggy, with a chance of storms.
Due to the uproar over the 10:10 video, this story got rather buried in the climate news cycle. It is almost as embarrassing as the 10:10 video, because, well, who would want this guy to align with their cause?
An audio recording attributed to the al-Qaeda leader and broadcast on the internet yesterday expresses concern about the devastating floods in Pakistan and calls on Muslims to provide relief for the victims.”The number of victims caused by climate change is very big… bigger than the victims of wars,” says the recording.
If genuine, the recording would be Bin Laden’s first since March 25.
It was not clear when the tape was made, but Bin Laden congratulated Muslims on the holy fasting month of Ramadan which ended September 10.
“The catastrophe (in Pakistan) is very big and it is difficult to describe it,” the recording says.
“What we are facing… calls for generous souls and brave men to take serious and prompt action to provide relief for their Muslim brothers in Pakistan.”
The recording makes a series of recommendations to deal with climate changes namely preventive measures that should be taken by governments in the face of disasters.

Given the events of this week, do the proponents of AGW really want to have OSBL, a man who kills people for having a differing view than him, as an ally for their cause? Do they really want an ally with a world voice that confuses weather with climate?
Note and update: Some people misunderstood my intent, that’s my fault for not writing clearly in the first place, and I accept the criticism for that and offer my apology if I unduly offended anyone. This was simply a case of writing something, then realizing that people were seeing it completely differently than I intended. I’ve removed the lines above that caused the issue and added this clarification below:
In case somebody misunderstands, it should be clearly understood that it is not my intent to compare these AGW proponents to OSBL in any possible way. I only want to point out that like with the 10:10 fiasco, AGW proponents that don’t want this sort of bad publicity connected with their movement, IMO should distance themselves and their organizations from OSBL.

~mod,
That’s ok. But it is possible that your radar needs some recalibration/
Come on , get a grip. The man died years ago, while alive he was a CIA asset. How can intelligent people like yourselves see past the AGW scam whilst failing to percieve the various other deceptions our corrupt governments and media have foisted upon us?
Why don’t you take a look at the collapse of WTC7, read the NIST report that states the building fell at FREEFALL speed for at least a second… due to a few small fires. Put those analytical minds of yours to work on THAT one.
You talk about the possibility of “eco-fascism” if the greens get their way, guess what guys? Your a little bit behind the times. The governments of the west have been fascist for the past ten years, corporate monopolies in bed with politicians (in agriculture, the pharmacuetical industry, media, energy, retail, healthcare, financial sector), small business crushed by regulations, the big guys above the law. Foriegn adventurism and domestic police states all in the name of fighting an enemy that can never be defeated.
The global warming scam is a key promotion in the agenda for an authoritarian world government, they plan to have a global carbon tax to initially fund this global monstrosity, but it is still only a fraction of the overall problem. If AGW crashes and burns there will be a new promotion to replace it, the Global Elites will just keep spinning new webs of deciet until people around the world wake up to who really pulls the strings and gets rid of them. So don’t be a sucker.
This story is a great, steaming, heap of agricultural by-product.
OBL is supposed to be the great mastermind of a bunch of highly trained terrorists, but none of them can slip over to Dubai and get some decent, tax-free, video equipment.
He is almost certainly dead.
(Though a friend of my mother’s is sure she saw him buying pot-plants in a gardening shop in Devon. Proof of his concern with green issues.)
I agree with Andrew W. You cannot seriously expect prominent AGW proponents to publicly distance themselves from every crackpot AGW endorser who appears on the scene. It would be counter-productive and self-defeating given the never ending stream of wannabe dictators, “spiritual leaders”, terrorists, Hollywood celebrities, and British royalty who routinely demand that governments do something about catastrophic climate change. There simply are not enough hours in the day to sift through this motley crew of assorted losers and decide who is worth denouncing and who is worth ignoring. So let’s get real.
Ooops! Accidently possted twice. Sorry.
Anthony, I am utterly lost as to why Romm, McKibben, Phil Jones or even Prince Charles should need to distance themselves from Osama.
[snip. Don’t get personal, please. ~dbs, mod.]
He shaved his beard, doffed his turban, and is running for office in LA. Against Proposition 23 of course.
Well, I haven’t heard any denouncement of these remarks by the pro-AGW eco-fascists. Their silence can only be interpreted as a tacit endorsement of OSBL’s killing of those who disagree with them.
I agree with those that say that OBL is dead. The last videos seen of him were obvious fakes that could only fool westerners who are not used to scanning dark faces with beards.
(think a crowd of chinese: they all look the same to me).
El Sid is an Arab legend. He fought and won while dead, tied to his horse and I suspect OBL is used by the islamic side to the same purpose, with the help of western agencies who need a visible enemy to wage wars.
Good one. Presumably the Nobel Peace prize. Oh the irony.
While the current floods in Pakistan are indeed tragic, it should be remembered that flooding there is nothing new. According to Wiki, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohenjo-daro , flooding is thought to have destroyed the ancient Indus Valley Civilization city of Mohenjo-daro at least seven times.
Dead or alive, Bin Laden still has the confidence of roughly a quarter of today’s Muslims:
http://pewresearch.org/pubs/1338/declining-muslim-support-for-bin-laden-suicide-bombing
Those who believe that Bin Laden represents only an aberrant splinter of Islam are mistaken.
I don’t agree with this article at all. Why should anyone be expected to respond to some pathetic student activists who think they can channel Bin Laden.
He’s passed on! He’s terrorist is no more! He has ceased to be! He’s expired and gone to meet his maker! He’s a stiff! Bereft of life, he rests in peace! If he hadn’t been turned into pink mist he would be pushing up the daisies! His metabolic processes are now history! He’s off the twig, kicked the bucket, shuffled off his mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin’ choir invisible!! HE IS AN EX-TERRORIST!!
LOL Come on, stop being children. Osama has likely been dead for a long time. But no, the adults of the west still believe in the boogie man. You have been played.
At least we no longer have to question where the inspiration that led to “SplatterGate”
came from.
Romm and McKibben should not be held responsible for people who agree with them. Bin Laden gets his news off the satellite feed in Sabzevar, Iran, so he knows only what the perky Katie Couric tells him. Seems like a nice town, lots of mosques for the religiously inclined. Fella could settle down there, enjoy his retirement, send out the occasional email to his friends and supporters.

Anthony, I’m trying to work out what sort of comment you expect from Romm etc.
Well, good luck with that, because I don’t think anyone is sitting on the edge of their seat waiting to see what he says. Whatever they say is whatever they say. Who cares man? YAWN!
Are people on the left of politics, which is where ‘global warming’ comes from, going to take the time to think about whether it hurts their reputation or not if OsBnLaden is their ally? Some on the political left say BnLaden and others like him are tantamount to the Founding Fathers. They will probably not give having them as allies a second thought.
Heck, they’ll probably even make a movie about blowing people up……errr, wait…….
The recording makes a series of recommendations to deal with climate changes namely preventive measures
What’s he going to do? Tell his people to ride a bike to work instead of their donkey?
if only America hadnt warmed the planet.. then Osama wouldnt have to lash out at us.. they brought this evil on the world… plays right into the mindset of most libs…
The possessive pronoun, “its” has no apostrophe (his, hers, its). “It’s” is the contraction for “it is.”
Well, I checked back and I see the update, which does clarify things a bit. Still, I think there is quite a bit of distance between the AGW crowd and OSBL already. I didn’t think, ‘Oh, snap! Hansen is gonna have some explaining to do!’ I do see what you are saying, but I just never even connected the two in the first place. The union between personal beliefs is pretty large across humanity, and if it were ever revealed, guys like OSBL would be nothing more than hobos drinking Mad Dog 20/20 out of a paper bag. Still, just because he is capitalizing on the flood situation in Pakistan to whip up sentiments doesn’t mean anything really for the debate at hand. He’s just trying to get Pakistanis whipped up to fight some imperialist infidels. If I’m wrong, I’d be glad to hear it. 🙂

What global climate alarmism needs right now is a single voice or nation to unite the b[uff]oons like the ones that made the “no pressure” video into a true powerful, and calculated movement. Al Gore was supposed to be that person but as it turns out he has the leadership and political reflex talents of an egg plant when not under supervision of his handlers, so he is out.
Speaking of Al Gore speaking, here he is again –
He gets heckled by an inconsiderate
denieralistperson, but it’s worth listening to his fact-filled speech. He mentions the flood in Pakistan, “Nothin’ like that’s ever happened there before.”And they’re setting records, too. “… before that happened, one of their cities, one of their cities had a temperature of 129 degrees, an all time record.” Except for 136° in Libya and 134° in Death Valley a century ago.
And people used to wonder why I prayed daily for Bill Clinton’s continued good health.
But hey, here’s actual non-govt-subsidized progress –
http://www.hylandgroup.com/index.php?src=news&refno=349
The Peppermill hotel in Reno has drilled down and tapped into the million degree core of the earth to provide geothermal heat for itself. Maybe even geothermal air conditioning in the summer, too, but the article didn’t mention it.
(P.S. I’m a big fan of Anthony and his website. Always like it to look “its” best.)
Osama, Obama, remind me… which is which?
