Canadian actress Ellen Page (Juno, Inception) has produced a great YouTube video urging everyone to participate in 350.org’s “Global Work Party Day” on October 10, 2010.

Page cites this summer’s floods in Pakistan and the Gulf oil spill as evidence for the need to tackle the climate change crisis directly and reduce dependence on dirty energy, and that the solution begins at the local level.
“I’m tired of waiting around and listening to politicians argue. They need to stop talking and start working,” Page says. And she thinks the Global Work Party on October 10 is the perfect way to show them how.
10/10/10 is a day to meet up with others in your community and work toward different climate change solutions. For example, Page mentions that in Pakistan, women will be teaching how to use solar stoves, and sumo wrestlers in Japan will be biking to practice.
Go to 350.org to find events in your area, or organize your own. They even have plenty of ideas to help get you started.

Oh wow: sumo wrestlers in Japan will be biking to practice! That will definitely “save the planet”. There are over 5000 events on the 350.org webpage from all around the world. Many are great like beach cleanups, tree plantings, and other feel-good community service efforts that will clearly help the environment. However, there are some that really cause some head-scratching. Here in the United States, the only politicians arguing are the Democrats. The party controlled both the House and Senate with insurmountable majorities and could have rammed through any legislation they saw fit. Instead, Obama focused his agenda NOT on the economy but on health care and Wall Street reform — and definitely not climate change. House speaker Nancy Pelosi was able to hold up her end of the deal.
Note to Ellen (and other liberal enviros): just be honest and say that you are deeply disappointed in the President and his party who seem to be arguing amongst themselves.
I will never understand the media’s fascination with Hollywood. There are certainly no role models to be found among movie actors and actresses; a bunch of losers in my opinion. Drugs, alcohol, foul language, and “you know” spoken at least once in every sentence. Every time I see news stories about Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton and Brittany Spears and various punk rock stars, I feel like barfing. I fear that major youth segments in our country are going down the tubes, thanks to “celebrities”.
My youngest son has the right idea: no TV in his house + strict limits on Internet time. My grandchildren are home-schooled and read books for entertainment.
Make birdhouses to help your local birds. In a recent animal ecology class field trip, I saw for myself how eager wild birds are to have human houses to rear their young in.
They keep rain out, hide chicks from predators–and cause faster egg and chick development BY INCREASING THE CONCENTRATION OF CARBON DIOXIDE.
The science of CO2 and animal health is suppressed but I found two studies on chicken egg develpment. Eggs really do hatch faster with up to 50 times atmospheric CO2!
This is a perfect way to do some ACTUAL unarguable good–and teach people something at the same time.
350.org is truely absurd, we are at 39X ppm now. They need a time machine. What idiot came up with it, Hansen or Gore?
Ellen Page is completely entitled to advocate as she sees fit. There is no problem with her encouragement of voluntary things in name of her concerns.
I think she is wrong about the climate and AGW and evil energy.
If she is, as I take she is, arguing for political solution, then I must engage against her.

She is just another stupid kid. She happens to be cute and has made a lot of money but she’s so concerned about the environment and her favorite food is sushi. I just wonder what kind of fuel those planes run on.
Yes she’s a leftist, but 13 years of public school will do that to you. She doesn’t even have a college degree. And feels what needs to be done without any thought.

I’ve just had the pleasure of watching four global warmers (three guests and the presenter) on BBC Scotland trying to explain why the public have gone off global warming.
This just shows the desperation of the Global warming BBC who are resorting to introspection about the failure of the global warming propaganda in order to manufacture a story to try to keep the propaganda pumping out!
Though like the few who’ll have bothered to watch, I must admit I did wake up when they said it would cost us another £1000 a year on fuel bills, …. so no chance of it going ahead then!

I recommend that everyone read John Locke’s Second Treatise on Government. It is brief, right to the point, well-written, and you will come away understanding the concepts of individual rights and limited government. No one in Hollywood has read this book. Be the first.

Let’s see… she’s 23 and knows how to play pretend for a profession, and I’m supposed to give a hoot what she says. Why?
Generally, I just include Hollywood morons in the same pool, but she’s still a kid. Maybe some day she’ll grow up.

As for me, I will be helping by hosting about 20 people to help clean up some turkey, squash, stuffing, brussel sprouts, and pumpkin pie! (Thanksgiving weekend in Canada!)
