When I recently had the pleasure of meeting Josh at Steve McIntyre’s GWPF lecture in London I found him as delightful as his cartoons. We subsequently exchanged genial emails, in the last of which I congratulated him on the sophistication of all his jokes on the AGW scene. Who else, I suggested, would be ‘in’ enough to do a cartoon about Tamino, for heavens sakes? I signed off my message ‘Cheers Phil’. Josh replied ‘Who’s Phil’?
Was he joking? Was I? I am still baffled. But like everyone else I am still enjoying his cartoons, as we all are Steve Mosher’s superb 2+2=4 satire, ‘Who’s on first?’. As something of an old hand at the satire game myself (founding editor of a little UK magazine called Private Eye and still writing some of its jokes 49 years later), I wave the flag to him. As someone has said, this is the way AGW ends, not with a bang but a giggle – or rather a gale of laughter.

And as we all know, Mr. Kirschbaum, local weather events, whether they be hot, cold, wet, dry, stormy or calm, are all used by the warmists to show evidence of CAGW. Yet they can’t even produce credible temperature data sets to show the global warming that would be theoretically required to cause such catastrophic events.
Could it be that the Russian forest fires are caused by an unusually hot dry summer combined with poor management of forests? It might be sensible to talk about how to prevent a recurrence rather than run around saying the sky is falling.
Meanwhile, Mr. Booker – love your work!

In the above cartoon, you can’t see Joe Romm. He is under Judith’s foot.

I have been following the nastiness being directed at Ms Curry.
I was rather nasty on the other thread when she called sceptical scientists deniers.I was too hasty to judge as I find she is a lady of common sense,who hasn’t backed down.I agree with what she states in this blog

This time, I suggest listening to a plurality of viewpoints, and for scientists to make sure their data and methods are transparent to the public. And stop trying to simplify all this into a straight climate change science drives global energy policy strategy, which was misguided and naïve, to say the least. The real problem is sustainability, which is a complex confluence of ecosystems, food, water, energy, population growth, finite natural resources, and the desire for economic development. Sustainability is a value that nearly everyone can share. The fundamental spatial unit of sustainability is the region, which makes it easier for people to identify their common concerns and secure their common interests. Yes, there are global elements to all this in terms of climate change and finite natural resources, and the realization that regional instabilities can have global consequences. It’s not a simple problem, and there is no silver bullet, but there are millions of little solutions that can all add up. Climate change needs to be considered as but a single element in the context of all these issues. And independently of the broader sustainability issues, we need rational energy policies that account not only for environmental issues, but also economic and national security issues.

Recently there seems to be a certain amount of unjustified criticism of Judith Curry
From the lead-in, I anticipated Josh’s cartoon to be a bemused Ms. Curry in medieval gown, surrounded by finger-pointing warmistas claiming that she’d turned them into newts…

Had a look at Deltoid and Stoat, the frenzy of the “true believers” against the “apostate Curry” is not for the squeamish.
Do these sites not realise that the biased selective editorial snipping gives the impression of irrational hysteria and lack of confidence in their own beliefs?

Josh,
I believe humor is an effective weapon against zealots who promote their nonsensical idologies. You are doing a good job. Just a suggestion. To include our friend Tamino (Grant Foster), put sunglasses on at least one of the “team” crusaders.

How odd that vast tracts of Canadian forest burn each and every year while such daring to happen in Russia is the global easy bake oven with too high a wattage of bulb.
