The seven experts who advised President Obama on how to deal with offshore drilling safety after the Deepwater Horizon explosion are accusing his administration of misrepresenting their views to make it appear that they supported a six-month drilling moratorium — something they actually oppose.
The experts, recommended by the National Academy of Engineering, say Interior Secretary Ken Salazar modified their report last month, after they signed it, to include two paragraphs calling for the moratorium on existing drilling and new permits.
Salazar’s report to Obama said a panel of seven experts “peer reviewed” his recommendations, which included a six-month moratorium on permits for new wells being drilled using floating rigs and an immediate halt to drilling operations.

A temporary moratorium on deep offshore drilling until it is understood what went wrong with the Deepwater Horizon well is reasonable, but to place a specific time limit is not. You stop until you understand what went wrong, you take measures to fix it, then you continue exploration.
When the administration goes out to their buds in the press and beat their chests about how much BP behind they’re going to kick and how much money they’re going to soak BP for I hope everyone realizes that BP is just going to jack up the price of gasoline and other petrochemicals to recoup their losses.

First the Obamaloids recruit “the smartest dudes in America.” Then when their report comes in, the Obamaloids jimmy new statements into it, in the hopes that “the smartest dudes in America” won’t notice. But they do, surprise surprise. So then the lizard-like Salazar “takes responsibility,” and the adoring public is completely mollified. The dimwit dance goes on and on, faster and faster, with the music at full volume.
Let’s say you are a scientist, and the Obama Administration contacts you and requests your expert assistance. Do you or don’t you, knowing full well they are inveterate, unrepentent hoaxers and scam artists? The money looks good, very good, but you stand the chance of flushing your integrity down the toilet, or having it flushed for you. The money or your integrity? Hmmmmm.

The enemy of big oil is cheap oil, the enemy of big government is cheap oil.
Cheap energy is the friend of a vibrant economy and high employment and economic growth.
Enegy companies stand to make more money by artificially increasing the price of their product, Venezuela needs the PPB to be 70+ to feed its socialist ecomomy and countries that produce oil also need the price of a barral to be high(see OPEC) but why? Well the fact is that oil production costs are high but if you look at the raw costs of exploration,recovery and refinement it does not add up BUT if you factor in the governments need for ever higher tax incomes to feed its growing appetite for money it makes sense.
Cheap energy is the peoples friend but expensive energy is the political classes friend and guess who wins in the end? My guess is that this whole emergency has been exploited as a rate hike mechanism, if the gulf reserves are as big as estimates prove then the price per barral will plummet and a lot of people who have relied on high prices for so long will be very upset.
The worlds ecomony has been manipulated by vested interests for a long time, a lot of people have a vested interest in the price of oil remaining high not least governments who need the tax revenue and the oil companies who have to provide that revenue, it is also worth bearing in mind that there are those in power who believe in constricting economic growth as a means of control both political and as a means of controlling humanity.
The model of restricting and restraining economic growth comes from a class of left wing eductaors passing on their highly flawed theories to the post war leaders via university education, the lessons learned from marxist ideologues were imprinted on the generation of politicians and economists that now rule over us. The fact that this model is disaterous for humanity means nothing to those who rule us.
America was built on cheap energy combined with a restless popular capitalism and it was a very successful model, but it was the enemy of left wing socialist big government who hate and despise that kind of freedom because it means loss of control and influence over ‘society’.
The socio political narrative followed by the ruling classes learned at university is a failure in terms of human progress and fulfillment yet still it is followed because political power and control is the goal.

Keith, the damage damage to the Gulf States economy will last FAR longer than the damage to the environment.
That BP is as much an American company as a British company is just icing on the cake to O’s administration, I’m afraid. I don’t think he much likes the US.

i wonder if the public noticed the amount of earth activities near the Gulf before the spill. it is reasonable to think that the pressures below the Gulf sea bed were raised that it could very well be the reason for the accident. the fault will probably be those who kept drilling when the warning signs were obvious. perhaps all offshore drilling should be examined right now, just in case. if it happens again, there will be no excuses.
we need that offshore oil for sure, but maybe right now it’d be a good idea to check this excited earth out.
It is quite clear that the Deepwater Horizon exploratory well was in deep trouble at least several weeks before the explosion on the drilling rig. Certainly, “managers” within the BP organization made several really bad decisions, due to budget and schedule pressures, and clearly, those few managers had no knowledge of the drilling technology involved. They were, as I call them, simply “money men”.
After analyzing the data as best I can (I am a retired professional civil engineer), for an exploratory well, the flow rate is unheard of, which rather well explains, in my mind, the early estimates which underestimated the actual flow by a factor greater than 10. The actual flow rate, for an exploratory oil well, beggars belief.
I also now think that there is no possible way that this could have been anticipated by any oil company, nor could any oil company have the means to control it, contain it, or provide adequate cleanup measures. (my opinion, of course).
There is also has been no single point of authority in our federal government established or appointed whose duty is to deal with the consequences of this national disaster, and I strongly fear, no person in our federal government with the courage to do so, from the President on down the line.
Instead of a responsible governmental reaction, I expect that this national disaster is going to be exploited to the hilt to justify liberal political goals to destroy capitalism and replace it with socialism, if not worse.

Rush made a great analogy today – Do you shut down all airline operations when there’s a plane crash? This was an exceedingly rare event. An actual Black Swan. And unfortunately, it may just change everything.
