From the “you can’t make this stuff up” department. Climate change is now blamed for what is called “Gary Larson events” in homage to the famed creator of the comic strip “The Far Side”
“We saw birds dying of what at best could be called Gary Larson events,” said Mark Mallory of the Canadian Wildlife Service in Iqaluit. “You see a bird for apparently no good reason fly into the cliff and die. You’ve got to be kidding.”
Of course, only MSNBC could be relied upon to report such scary science news. Here’s the link:

Now I understand how the bird tragedy shown below happened.
We just didn’t look closely enough for a the cause of why the birds went crazy back then.
Look for a sequel soon. Ed Begley Jr. is being considered for the lead male actor role.

One has also to think that it is natural a way of culling the species, if there are not enough predators and diseases. If all newborns survived to adulthood and old age, after a few generations there would be no air left to breath, let alone to fly.
Leif Svalgaard (16:25:00) :
Fun cartoon. Made me think that Josh could do a “Mann discovers tools” in a similar vein involving a hockey stick.
I’m surprised no-one has postulated some kind of link to the goings on in Flashforward
Liberal media running back movies taken by naturalist-racists of lemmings jumping off cliffs then running the tape backwards.
Reply: You do know that the films of lemmings mass suicide were faked right? ~ ctm
So birds aew killed by erosion and avalanches on nesting cliffs. Perhaps they should have asked a geologist how those cliffs form in the first place. It is by erosion and avalanches.
Incidentally birds don’t nest on cliff ledges because they think it is fun. It is because it is much safer than on flat ground since terrestrial predators can’t get to them.
Mike J (17:02:55) :
“If temperatures warm and intense storms in the Arctic increase, along with other climate factors, “we might see mortality in these birds from these things increase from what they are now.” But Mallory adds that he and his team are not sounding an alarm bell that climate change is going to kill off all of the seabirds.”
Unbelievable. And they call themselves scientists?
————–
They call themselves ‘Conservation Biologists’ which is a new ‘mission-oriented’ pseudoscience that begins with the premise that everything is doomed or heading for imminent extinction and is as utterly bogus as the worst of IPCC climate ‘science.’
The EPA is loaded with them and so is the Canadian Wildlife Service. So is the mothership, the IUCN. The whole ‘endangered species’ research-industrial complex is based on this junk science. Not surprisingly, they’re big on models now.
Hopefully when we get past this first priority, the global climate crisis fraud, we can look harder at this branch of the ‘save the world’ industry. They are linked. How do you think they came up with the very convenient ‘scientific’ predictions of polar bear ‘extinction’ to fit the big scare campaign and give the AGW gang their best poster child?
timetochooseagain (18:52:33) :
Right you are. The foundation of Conservation Biology is the revision of history, specifically the state of historic wildlife populations and distribution. That way they can create false comparisons and the perception of a perpetual crisis. So telling lies about ‘unprecedented’ robins in the Arctic is just standard operating procedure for them.
Everything and anything can be attributed to climate change is a grant renewal depends on it.
Well, at least I now understand lemmings. It is pretty obvious really – they are psychic and have seen the AGW-endured ending of our world and just cannot face the awful reality of it all.
The researchers suspect as the ice goes through freezing and melting, and the consequential expanding and contracting, it puts pressure on the rocks and causes these rock falls.
There are many old quarries near where I live. This winter I have noticed some new (still clean) fallen rocks, after all the freezing weather. However, I have not made a dramatic new discovery. I learnt at school (age 11) that water expands when it freezes. These guys should get out more before they start ‘suspecting’.
Carrick says: ‘If you want to look for a link to AGW, look for bats running into cliffs or other obstacles.’
Of course, moonbats do this all the time!
We Aussies know the real story behind these mysterious bird collisions:
This classic ad followed on the heals of the original (for a bit of context):
Enjoy.
OMG!!!1111
Anthony and mods. You have to check out this in relation to this post. Apparently it’s a real movie and it is HIGHlarious. Birdemic.
Cheers
[a bit over the top ~ ctm]
That explains everything! Climate change must be why kamikazes and suicide bombers do their dirty work.
Maybe these birds are lemmings? What about beaching whales, could they also be possible victims of CAGW ? Hmmm, so many questions, so few answers.
Ah yes, The Birds — a scary picture, Peter Finch and Walter Pigeon did excellent work.
We had legendary bird in the fens, which self destructed by flying backwards
and dissapearing up its own orifice, the birds mentioned must a similar genre.
Senior seagull moments.

couldn’t agree more. Threw ours out (actually never had one of our own) twenty years ago and never looked back. Our kids actually read. Sometimes all day!
George Turner (18:31:44) :
I would think that the major killers of arctic birds are unusual accidents and weather related events. I mean, what else is going to eventually end their lives, smoking and drug addiction?
Suicide by CWS “biologists”.
Bulldust…good links, kacked on the 2nd one..1
mod, no fair, now I have to go ind birdemic..
Bulldust-those are hilarious ads. Loved the one with the trucker…
But the computer simulations don’t provide a reason, therefore Man must have caused it.
I expect that these event occur just before or after noon, when the sun casts small dark shadows below small outcrops in the cliff. These dark, somewhat triangular shadows would appear as a ‘hole’, a place to land, in the otherwise brightly lit cliff face. The bird thinks it has a good, sheltered landing or nesting site and attempts to go into the ‘hole’.
So, lets see some video of these events.
AWG: If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
So I guess that just because humans and their camera weren’t around for 10’s of MILLIONS of years before now that such bird deaths simply did not happen. The proof is that they happily survived cycles of ice ages and polar melting for all that time until we came along. So it’s obviously our fault but … is it the CO2 or the cameras that are causing it? (Or maybe it was the color of hats they were wearing or some cruel bird joke that the birds overheard? )
