The Goracle Forecast: AGW=More snow

Sure looks like a heat wave, doesn’t it?

Repower America Reports His View

By Al Gore from his blog @ algore.com

With all the climate deniers spreading lies about the climate crisis in the media, it’s vital we arm ourselves with the facts. Thankfully, Repower America put together a great fact sheet explaining the relationship between the climate crisis and extreme weather:

“Fact: Climate change causes more frequent and severe snowstorms

Record snowstorms need two things: temperatures below freezing, and very high humidity. On a planet warmer by a few degrees on average, the Northeast US will still have plenty of days below freezing; the big difference will be warmer seas producing higher levels of moisture in the air – and therefore more severe cold-season storms.”

“Fact: We can expect more extreme weather

Scientists tell us that climate change has already led to more extreme weather in the United States and we can expect stronger hurricanes, more wildfires, heatwaves and droughts, to name a few.”

“Fact: The world is warming at a quickening pace

Weather in one region over days or months should not be confused with climate or the patterns of weather over decades and centuries. And the science is clear here: the last decade was the hottest on record. And to put this year’s weather in perspective, January was warmer than average for the continental United States”

============================

I could spend lots of time pointing out why each one of these claims is false, and that Mr. Gore is atcually the one who is the liar, by why deprive my readers of all the fun?

One thing Gore doesn’t mention: El Nino. Wonder why?

You can bet he’d be making the same claim if we had a below normal snowfall records too.

Gore says: “With all the climate deniers spreading lies about the climate crisis in the media, it’s vital we arm ourselves with the facts.”
There’s a “climate crisis in the media?” Who knew? Because they are unable to shed sunlight on the issue of global warming?
Of course the truth is exactly as the unwitting Gore states it: there’s been a climate crisis in the media for more than two decades and Gore has been feeding it with bogus statements such as can be found in this press release. Whether there has been a crisis in the actual climate has yet to be determined with any certainty.

The alarmists are in full stride with their effort to have AGW subtly assumed in general climate change by only discussing “climate change”, while dismissing Climategate. Alarmists are obsessed with the idea that mega-overstating that “climate change” determines weather variations will prove that breathing and more comfortable humans are causing climate change correctable only by breathing less and becoming less comfortable while paying a new layer of monetary bureaucratic carbon credit parasites for that privilege.
How successful have alarmist predictions been to date?
Gone is discussion of CO2 and it’s faster rising divergence from temperature that empherically isolate CO2 from being the driver of “global warming”. That humans are the cause is arrogantly and wrongly assumed.
So much for the most important prediction .
Increasing temps at a quickening pace? Flat for the last decade. How is that a quickening pace? Notables have correctly anticipated our current El Nino winters to a tee along with the temporary warming global effect.
For the U.S. alarmists, it’s a race to “prove”, by presumptive arrogance and partial technical “climatespeak”, to gullible pols, media and citizens that any momentary weather variation supports “climate change”.
Will enough pols, media and citizens demand to understand enough authentic evidence to fend off the alarmist tripe and push for future openly debated research and knowledge that will afford us the opportunities to prosper?
Cap & Trade(Tax) is not dead yet and must be continually proven to be unnecessary while the EPA Endangerment Findings must be more emphatically proven wrong.
As climate change will be around for awhile and so will the debate as long as there are AGW ‘false profits’ to be made.

More extremes like say record high temperatures? Here are the number of record US high temperatures by state per decade, from the US National Climate Data Center (NCDC):
1880-1890, 1
1890-1900, 1
1900-1910, 0
1910-1920, 5
1920-1930, 6
1930-1940, 20
1940-1950, 0
1950-1960, 5
1960-1970, 1
1970-1980, 2
1980-1990, 3
1990-2000, 5
2000-2010, 1
Yeah, that dread global warming has driven the state record high temperatures through the roof …

Climategate has revealed that Al’s “Inconvenient Truth” is a “Convenient Untruth” that an unholy alliance of unscrupulous politicians and greedy scientists have used science as propaganda tool to the control the world.

Yaknow, it is really hard for me to believe that the GREAT AlGore could not find someone a little brighter than the person that wrote this PAP-CRAP. Good grief, it is totally illogical and even poorly written!
I suppose he employs “scientists” from the Sierra Club and/or WWF and/or Greenpeace and/or NRDC to help him craft this perfect example of propaganda experts that are smoking too much pot.

Well, I took a look at the “Fact Sheet” that Al recommends. The first “fact” is as follows:

Fact: Climate change causes more frequent and severe snowstorms

Record snowstorms need two things: temperatures below freezing, and very high humidity. On a planet warmer by a few degrees on average, the Northeast US will still have plenty of days below freezing; the big difference will be warmer seas producing higher levels of moisture in the air — and therefore more severe cold-season storms.1

The footnote (1) refers us to Chapter 3 of the IPCC FAR. (I hate it when they don’t give either page numbers or a findable quote, but that’s just sloppy science that’s all to common on the AGW side.)
A search of the chapter reveals that it doesn’t mention “snowstorms” once … not a good start. Reading further I find the following uncited claim:

More precipitation now falls as rain rather than snow in northern regions.

Doesn’t help their case. I also find:

In the western USA, diminishing snow pack and subsequent reductions in soil moisture also appear to be factors.

and

snow cover has decreased in many regions of the Northern Hemisphere;

and

Confirmation of global warming comes from … diminished snow cover in the Northern Hemisphere.

and

Berger et al. (2002) found a trend towards fewer snowfall events during winter across the lower Missouri River Basin from 1948 to 2002, but little or no trend in snowfall occurrences within the plains region to the south. In New England, there has been a decrease in the proportion of precipitation occurring as snow at many locations, caused predominantly by a decrease in snowfall, with a lesser contribution from increased rainfall (Huntington et al., 2004).

and

In Canada, the frequency of heavy snowfall events has decreased since the 1970s in the south and increased in the north (Zhang et al., 2001a).

Diminished snow pack and less snow cover from their claimed “more frequent and severe snowstorms”? How does that work?
Ah, well. I suppose that somewhere in there is a statement that confirms the Goreacle, but I haven’t found it.

Any lawyers in this forum?
I didn’t insulate my house because Al Gore said it was going to get much warmer very fast. So there was no point in upgrading my insulation or going to a high efficiency furnace because I wasn’t even going to need a furnace soon.
Now I’m going broke trying to keep up with the heating bills. I live in a winter city so we’re talking pretty big bucks here over the last 15 years. Worse, temperatures are plummeting and the price of insulation and new furnaces has increased, so now it will cost me a lot more to upgrade than it would have 15 years ago.
So can I sue Mr Gore for the expenses he has caused me? Plus the additional expense of fixing his mistakes now? Plus mental anguish. Yes, the stress of looking at all those heating bills I wasn’t expecting almost killed me. Lots of mental anguish. and coffee burns. It hit -43 one night and the furnace couldnt keep up so I made coffee to have something warm to drink and spilled it on myself causing burns and additional mental anguish that wouldn’t have happened if my insulation and furnace had been upgraded. Windows…I could have put in new windows, MORE money he cost me.
If there’s lawyers out there who can drum up the courage to sue McDonald’s for a woman who spilled coffee on herself, arguing that they didn’t warn her it was hot, surely….

Sorry for the confusion, Paul. Each US state has, of course, one historical record high temperature, so there are fifty state records. The table shows how many of these state records occurred in each decade. The meaning is likely better expressed as:

Here are the number of US state record high temperatures per decade.

“Fact: … the big difference will be warmer seas producing higher levels of moisture in the air…”
So how does more moisture in the air lead to more droughts and wildfires? The contradictions in their reasoning for their forecasts are mind numbing.

Global warming causes both warming and cooling
The sun then causes both sunlight and darkness.
Hey Al, does cooling at night mean CO2 went down at night?

Gary: Because man’s CO2 is the greatest known force on earth. Not only does it raise and lower temperatures in unwanted extremes, it also has the power to change the direction of the jet stream and the power of gravity.

BTW – Due to the El Nino, Hawaii is having a drier, warmer winter and it has nothing to do with global warming. It is not unprecedented or rare. In fact, it has happened several times before. I just thought I’d throw it out there…

Open Letter to Al Gore:
Al, you could be President. But you have to take a shot in the next election. Obama is going to be a one termer, but there’s no way you can beat him in the primaries. The Republicans are going to win, and if their candidate is a two termer, you’ll be too old for another run 11 years from now. You have to make your move now, and join the Republicans.
Think about it. They’re drifting right now, leaderless. Sure they got some good people they could run, but a star like you? They’d jump at that. Big time. They need bling, and you are the bling man! Now you’d have to drop that global warming thing because Obama’s already staked out the high ground there, but you could go with a tax agenda. You hit the primaries with an increase taxes agenda and your star power, none of the other Republican candidates will stand a chance. The Democrats won’t see it coming and the only thing they will be able to do is to promise to raise taxes even higher, so make sure you use a real big number right off the hop so they can’t raise you. I promise, you will sail through the primaries and become the Republican candidate. I’ve been conducting polls (data is private, sorry can’t show you that) but I’ve had it analyzed by dozens, no hundreds, no thousands, no ALL the statisticians in the world, and they ALL agree that you will win this election and become the next president of the United States. There’s no room for error, its settled. In fact, the polling data suggests you have a 7% chance of becoming the first FEMALE president of the United States and a 22% chance becoming the first Hispanic president of the United States and a 32% chance of being both the Republican and Democratic nominee in the following election, THAT’s how much star power you have.
But you have to start getting ready for the Republican primaries now. There’s not more time to waste on this global warming bularky. You’ve proven that you can sell ice to Eskimos, that’s what the Repblicans are looking for. Jump on it now before Pelosi or Clinton think of it.
