Al Gore apparently has no command of the most basic details of anything related to Earth and climate. His last idiotic gaff in the media was that the temperature of the Earth 2 kilometers or so down was millions of degrees! Apparently, Slate editors who look equally like dufuses for printing this dreck didn’t notice his latest one either. Maybe all those trips around the world in the private jet have damaged his ability to tell the time and date? Too many trip across the International Dateline perhaps?
Here’s an interview question put to him from Slate:
Q: How damaging to your argument was the disclosure of e-mails from the Climate Research Unit at East Anglia University?
A: To paraphrase Shakespeare, it’s sound and fury signifying nothing. I haven’t read all the e-mails, but the most recent one is more than 10 years old. These private exchanges between these scientists do not in any way cause any question about the scientific consensus. But the noise machine built by the climate deniers often seizes on what they can blow out of proportion, so they’ve thought this is a bigger deal than it is.
But wait there’s more…
Q: There is a sense in these e-mails, though, that data was hidden and hoarded, which is the opposite of the case you make [in your book] about having an open and fair debate.
A: I think it’s been taken wildly out of context. The discussion you’re referring to was about two papers that two of these scientists felt shouldn’t be accepted as part of the IPCC report. Both of them, in fact, were included, referenced, and discussed. So an e-mail exchange more than 10 years ago including somebody’s opinion that a particular study isn’t any good is one thing, but the fact that the study ended up being included and discussed anyway is a more powerful comment on what the result of the scientific process really is.
These people are examining what they can or should do to deal with the P.R. dimensions of this, but where the scientific consensus is concerned, it’s completely unchanged. What we’re seeing is a set of changes worldwide that just make this discussion over 10-year-old e-mails kind of silly.
Earth to Al, Earth to Al, come in Al.
Despite the fact that some of the 10 year old emails discussed important issues like the 2001 IPCC report and what made it into it…the most recent emails in Climategate were from November 2009. Last month, this year, earth time.
For example, here’s one from November 12th from Phil Jones:

And there are dozens to hundreds more within the last month, the last year, and the last 10 years.

Jeeez!! Gore. What a vacuous nimrod, and people pay to listen to him.

Robinson (08:28:41) :
Can someone explain the ManBearPig reference? I see it often but have no idea what it means!
**************
Reference is to a South Park episode. You can find some of it on YouTube.
ManBearPig was a non-existent beast that AlGore said threatened the world, like AGW.
“”” harpo (01:57:31) :
Al Gore knows that his followers are sheep. If he says that the latest email is more than 10 years old they will believe him. None of them will check because they are believers not sceptics (skeptics) whatever….
Down in Oz, Australian of the year, Tim Flannery, Climate Alarmist No.1 did this calculation in an article in a leading Alarmist newspaper (The Melbourne Age). Flannery claims to be a scientist. Of what, I don’t know.
Paraphrasing…..
Average global temperature in 1900 was 15C. Now it’s 20C. That’s a 25% increase in temperature!
Check…. (unless it has been modified by the Age… which has been know to happen when they get caught out… in that case I kept a PDF as evidence)
http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/politics/climate-sceptics-and-the-liberals-negotiating-in-bad-faith-20091203-k8pr.html
An economist, Terry McCrannt pointed out that its actually (based on Flannery’s figures) a 33% increase. He went on to say that if Flannery can’t undertake that basic calculation why should we believe anything he says. “””
Well here in the land of the Rod/Stone/Fortnight system, the temperature only increased from 57F up to 68 F so that makes it only a 19.3 % increase.
No wonder you Oztralians think is so darn hot all the time !
Climate Rap: Al Gore v.s. Monckton
http://pathstoknowledge.net/2009/12/09/the-climategate-rap-gore-vs-monckton
~”He played on your fears, he betraaaayed this country”
Gore speaking of Bush, who “stole” the election.
A truely funny bumper sticker on one car around here – there aren’t many bumper stickers here in redneck country – was “Re elect Gore in 2004″. Unfortuneately, it was accompanied by another: ~”Live long and well, then die off”.
Oh the caring, the sensitivity, of our betters, “the audacious distortion of reality to reach the higher truths.”
Vincent (03:03:39) :
I am not trying to compare Al Gore with a monkey however. Just sayin’.
I’m glad you didn’t. I’d hate to accuse you of insulting monkeys.
Robinson (08:28:41) – It is a reference to an episode on “South Park” , an animated satire show here in the US . In this particular episode , Al Gore shows up in South Park to warn the residents of the dangers of Manbearpig – half man , half bear , half pig . Hope this helps . If you google it , you can probably find on the internet thingy .
Kate, thanks for the latest from M4GW. I suspect Gore must be visiting somewhere in the Upper Midwest right now. Temps are dropping like a rock over 20F below normal and those 30MPH sustained winds are dropping wind chills way below 0F (suppose to be -30F tonight). I have a nice new foot of snow drifting all over my yard. Please, please could we get some global warming.
Al Gore on CNN’s “American Morning” getting some tough questions and being called on the 10 year-old email lie:
http://us.cnn.com/video/?/video/living/2009/12/09/am.gore.global.warming.cnn
Watching Gore the first word that came to mind was “smarmy”. Al Gore has positioned himself to become one of the most discredited human beings in history, and he seems to be wrapped up so deeply in his own blather that he doesn’t see it coming. Gore deserves a cell right next to Madoff’s…
2+2=5
Capital of Tennessee is Memphis
Windows 95 came out in 2000
Tony Romo is awesome in December
Phillip Bratby (00:20:32) :
“Al Gore also said “The entire North Polar ice cap is disappearing before our very eyes.”
If its 2million C 2km below, then thats hardly surprising…
“Evergreen trees of the American West are dying by the milions”
That means tree rings stop during warming.
Time to re-hash the proxies
“I suspect Gore must be visiting somewhere in the Upper Midwest right now. Temps are dropping like a rock over 20F below normal and those 30MPH sustained winds are dropping wind chills way below 0F”
And the Lord looked upon Gore and saw that he had spread great untruths that were a blasphemy upon this earth. And also the Lord saw that this Gore was causing great fear and the hearts of men to tremble with his blasphemies and that he had made the monies to disappear from the pockets of man and into his own account.
And a great anger came upon the Lord, whereupon he raised his staff and from heaven cried: “Gore I thee curse, and thou shalt suffer the cold and snows as of a mighty chill that shall follow thee unto the ends of this earth.”
And thus became that which became known as “the Gore effect.”
If Al Gore learned anything from promoting Climate Change and Global Warming to boost his Carbon Offset business, it was that if you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes truth.
The Washington Post published a revealing expose’ of Al Gore’s lack of scientific expertise in a news article published in March 2000 during his campaign for President. See
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?pagename=article&contentId=A37397-2000Mar18
I overlapped Al as a student at Harvard College during 1967-1969 (but never met him). During the 2000 Presidential campaign, I remember being underwhelmed by his academic record. His SAT aptitude scores were mediocre by Harvard standards, his achievement test scores in the sciences were abysmal, and his grades at Harvard were terrible. He did not take a single serious science or mathematics course as an undergraduate.
The last reliable email is ten years old. Since that time the emails contain a non-temperature correlated response and can therefore simply be ignored!
“Evergreen trees of the American West are dying by the millions”
Supposedly this is due to greater warmth that has allowed a destructive beetle to extend its range. However, I read a rebuttal to this somewhere that put the blame elsewhere. (I think the author may even have partly blamed it on an unintended side effect of some environmental measure.)
Ok the concesus is that Al Gore is an idiot – he’s a rich one though – so who’s laughing now?!
Folks I have to say that I am getting tired of our trying to take down Al gore with smear, name calling and suggestion. What we need on this person are the facts. We need calls to investigate him and we need to uncover what ever we can along this line. Most of what I read here incriminates us, as far as warmers are concerned. Stick to the facts. That is what we are fighting for after all.
We’ve got to stop preaching to the choir and get on over to http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/12/08/AR2009120803402.html
The warmers are out in force, calling Palin a Bimbo for speaking up, and excoriating the WashPo for running an Op they don’t like.
You have to remember that Gore had to homogenise the date before he disclosed it.
Using one of those pesky AlGoreythems.
Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” (2006) is the “Reefer Madness” (1936) of my generation. While a half hour longer, the production budgets are similar in constant dollars. Perhaps Paramount Classics will do a “colorized” version like the one 20th Century Fox released for “Reefer Madness” in 2004. I expect such a parody to appear well before 2074.
OT but had to share my funny idea:
Since the EPA declared greenhouse gases to be poisonous… the last few days anytime someone is close to me I have been saying “WOH stop exhaling on me, that is poisonous you know?”.. Or when someone is drinking water or having a shower I let them know that they are poisoning their bodies. Spread the word. It is simply amazing how many people don’t know that we exhale c02 and that water vapour is a GHG. I was shocked.
I guess what kills me is that by using the data at the NCDC it shows what skeptics have been saying all along. Go to the link below and put in 1895 (the farthest dates that temp history is available) to 2009 and you will see a 0.12 degrees C rise in temperatures for the U.S. Plug in 1980-2009 and you will see a rise of 0.44 degrees C. But plug in 1997-2009 and you will see a 0.29 degree C drop. There is a warning at the top of the page indicating that this data hasn’t been “quality controlled”. I guess that means they haven’t applied any of Mike Mann’s “tricks” to “hide the decline”?
http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/research/cag3/na.html
I have a Ph.D in geophysics. I studied at the University of Utah with David Chapman. Chapman in turn studied under Henry Pollack, another thermal geophysicist, at the University of Michigan. Ironically, Pollack is now one of Gore’s advisors.
I have published dozens of papers in the peer-reviewed scientific literature on thermal geophysics.
As pointed out here, Gore’s statement is ridiculously, hopelessly, wrong. The temperature of rocks in geothermal fields is typically in the hundreds of deg C. The near-surface melting temperature of rock is in the neighborhood of 1000 C.
Gore is wrong by at least a factor of a thousand, or one-hundred-thousand percent.
This man, a politician and lawyer, is now advising the world on the science of climate and the technical field of energy?
God help us. This guy obviously does not have a clue.
And how can someone be so remarkably stupid as to believe we have
drill bits that can withstand “millions of degrees” of temperature?
Oh my God. The nakedness of the Emperor is fully revealed at last.
