Al Gore apparently has no command of the most basic details of anything related to Earth and climate. His last idiotic gaff in the media was that the temperature of the Earth 2 kilometers or so down was millions of degrees! Apparently, Slate editors who look equally like dufuses for printing this dreck didn’t notice his latest one either. Maybe all those trips around the world in the private jet have damaged his ability to tell the time and date? Too many trip across the International Dateline perhaps?
Here’s an interview question put to him from Slate:
Q: How damaging to your argument was the disclosure of e-mails from the Climate Research Unit at East Anglia University?
A: To paraphrase Shakespeare, it’s sound and fury signifying nothing. I haven’t read all the e-mails, but the most recent one is more than 10 years old. These private exchanges between these scientists do not in any way cause any question about the scientific consensus. But the noise machine built by the climate deniers often seizes on what they can blow out of proportion, so they’ve thought this is a bigger deal than it is.
But wait there’s more…
Q: There is a sense in these e-mails, though, that data was hidden and hoarded, which is the opposite of the case you make [in your book] about having an open and fair debate.
A: I think it’s been taken wildly out of context. The discussion you’re referring to was about two papers that two of these scientists felt shouldn’t be accepted as part of the IPCC report. Both of them, in fact, were included, referenced, and discussed. So an e-mail exchange more than 10 years ago including somebody’s opinion that a particular study isn’t any good is one thing, but the fact that the study ended up being included and discussed anyway is a more powerful comment on what the result of the scientific process really is.
These people are examining what they can or should do to deal with the P.R. dimensions of this, but where the scientific consensus is concerned, it’s completely unchanged. What we’re seeing is a set of changes worldwide that just make this discussion over 10-year-old e-mails kind of silly.
Earth to Al, Earth to Al, come in Al.
Despite the fact that some of the 10 year old emails discussed important issues like the 2001 IPCC report and what made it into it…the most recent emails in Climategate were from November 2009. Last month, this year, earth time.
For example, here’s one from November 12th from Phil Jones:

And there are dozens to hundreds more within the last month, the last year, and the last 10 years.

Jeeez!! Gore. What a vacuous nimrod, and people pay to listen to him.

@harpo Intelligence is one of the things that is Rankin last with the Gore crowd. For 2 points why is 0 degrees F at the temperature assigned to it?

Non resident question……
8 or so years ago when the Chadgate election drama was unfolding, if Bush had lost, would Al Gore have become President of the United States?
Wow! So close!
Be thankful for small mercies!
Far away in the Surrey Hills……..

hate to bust your bubble there but your respite was only temporary. Yes algore would have become president if he’d won and I doubt we could even imagine the negative consequences from that. The bad news is we won’t have to imagine anymore.
It looks like Al lives in a parallel universe. Or perhaps in his private bubble that keeps him out of contact wiht the real world. Would it be improper to call him “Bubble Boy” Gore?
Incidentally, speaking of parallel universes, the Tuesday CBC radio program “As It Happens” included an interview with Michael Mann from 2008 in which he gives a verbal description of the hockey stick and tells how the graph describes the temperature history of the last 1000 years. I heard a repeat broadcast just as I was turning in for the night, but will be sending a caustic note very soon.

More and more evidence is popping up that the raw temp record aligns with IPCC climate model predictions with AGW turned off.
http://strata-sphere.com/blog/index.php/archives/11812
Is it any wonder the only data record which conforms with the IPCC models when AGW is included are by those very scientists whose careers and credibility rest on AGW being proven? And those records are easily shown to diverge from reality (the raw temps).
Gore has proven his qualifications as an administrator at my college.

Excellent cartoon as usual from Matt. This blatant propaganda is not so funny.

Possible alternative ending for the grotesque COP15 introductory propaganda video;
Toy polar bear falls into hole.
Real polar bear sniffs and rejects it but then scents tasty quarry…

“Problem is, when the hell are we going to get to that point? I see on the BBC this morning a news clippet about the UN sending a letter of support to UEA FFS!”
And in today’s newspaper there is an article titled “UN Data Back Record Warmth.” The final paragraph of the article reads: “The past few decades are the warmest period in at least 400 years and probably 1,000 years, based on evidence from tree rings, retreating glaciers and other scientific methods to track climate before record-keeping, according to a 2006 report by the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.”
The AGW crowd is fighting tooth and nail to drive back the forces of truth. And they must be fervently hoping and praying that no one is paying attention to the details.
It’s enough to make your blood boil.

With apologies to the all-seeing, all-knowing, internet inventin’ Goracle.. but whenever I see his name, an image of a Bull runs through my mind.

If you were allowed to take one poetry book before being marooned on an island would you choose Al’s or a Vogon’s?
Does media print this on purpose just to make sure we know how ill-informed he is?
“I haven’t read all the e-mails, but the most recent one is more than 10 years old”….Obviously this was “10 years in the future” Al Gore speaking.
This is an example of getting a big lie out first.
People always believe the first thing they hear, then
it is difficult to change their minds.
Al Gore: Denier. ;->
He knows things without having read them.
I find that funny. Our “minister for climate change” Mr Milliband is on record for saying that, although he did not understand the science, he knew that AGW/CC was real and very, very bad.
As a curiosity: his twin brother connected to the Home Office, commented on the expulsion of Dutch politician that this was because this guy had made a very, very bad movie, which he (Milliband) had not seen himself, of course.
It runs in families, clearly.
There’s a petition going to get Stephen Harper to form a commission to examine validity of Global Warming.

I signed. This is for Canadians only. Not sure whether this is on-topic.
Algore is a lawyer by education. If none of us would use him for a simple will or traffic ticket, why would they use him to read a thermometer?
I see Gore has UEA-CRU doing smoothing on his Climategate timeline.
“I don’t know – not having been there and not seeing all the [made up] facts – what role [science] played in that, but I think it’s fair to say, number one, any of us [Global Warming Experts] would be pretty angry; number two that the [Global Warming Skeptics] acted stupidly in [trying to use actual data] when there was already proof that [I am a complete idiot]”
O/T, but I look at the graph of Arctic ice extent every few days (linked from the home page) and have noticed that the Arctic ice appears to be melting as we approach the depths of winter. WUWT?
Is there a malfunction in the measuring equipment or what?

Wasn’t it Gore who had the wrong hurricane rotation on his new book? If it was, I noticed in the Slate link that it’s been fixed.
He is trying to use a standard tactic from the playbook that was used so effectively when he was Vice President. Call a new scandal “old news” and pretend that all of the questions raised by the scandal have already been discussed, resolved, and put behind everyone. Nothing to see here. Move along. It’s all been “settled” long ago.
Sid (03:16:00) :
The Real issue here is not what Al Gore remembers or what those emails contain ( i think they have been quoted way out of context). we have to analyze whether climate change is real and even more than that whether renewable energy and efficient use of energy is the way forward. i personally think that it is the way forward. i also think that if oil was still continuing its upward climb like last year most people would have been taking renewable energy far more seriously.
Climate change is as real as the sunrise. Climate change started as soon as the earth had a climate. Sorry, that’s not the right question — it’s a dumb question.
The future requires more energy. Renewable energy will be part of that mix. The time to implement renewable energy is when it become economically viable and not before. As those technologies mature they will naturally be put to wider use.
There is no need to mandate the use of more renewables and certainly no need to force out existing, practical energy sources in favor of expensive and still experimental energy sources just because you believe they are better.
Somebody truly needs to get on the stick and manufacture Al Gore Warming Shovels and Global Warming Blowers. This is a business opportunity that should not be missed. I think some Al Gore Warming hats and gloves would be good for Oregon too since we are having windchill factors in the minus 30 range. Minus 30 folks! That’s frostbite in 15 minutes or less!
Didn’t George Castanza say, “It’s not a lie if you believe it’s true.” Gore truly lives in a self-important Seinfeld world.
