Extracts from Chris Morrison’s New Book Implausible: How Scientists, Activist Politicians and Journalists Invented a Climate Crisis

From THE DAILY SCEPTIC

By Chris Morrison

Today we publish exclusive extracts from Chris Morrison’s explosive new book that will send shock waves through both the ‘settled’ climate science community and the hard-Left promoters of the wicked Net Zero lunacy:

IMPLAUSIBLE: How scientists, activist politicians and journalists invented a climate crisis, weaponised junk computer model findings and claimed a fake consensus to promote the collectivist Net Zero fantasy

Foreword by Toby Young, Editor-in-Chief, Daily Sceptic

If there’s a theme running through Chris’s work it is that the climate agenda is a thinly disguised power grab by the lanyard classes, determined to assert control over the unruly masses who are proving stubbornly reluctant to give up their sentimental attachment to freedom. You want to choose what car to buy and what speed to drive it? No way, you knuckle-dragging petrol-head. You’ll buy an over-priced, doesn’t-retain-its-value EV and go no faster than 20mph. Enjoy steak and chips? Sorry, mush, it’s a plant-based diet for you from now on. Unwilling to give up your gas boiler? Tough. You’ll be forced to install a ‘heat’ pump that costs £25,000 and doesn’t actually heat your house. …

Chris’s work is needed more than ever – and this book is a fantastic introduction to it. Reading it will make you angry – and you should be angry, very angry. But you’ll also be very entertained.

Introduction

April 7th 2026 was the day the great climate crisis invention backing the political Net Zero fantasy finally hit the hard rocks of reality. That was the day a group of scientists working on a new assessment report for the United Nations-backed Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) admitted that a set of computer model assumptions commonly known as RCP8.5 were “implausible”. The official admission sent shock waves through the elite worlds of climate scientists and collectivist politicians as well as heaping lasting shame on all the helpful messengers in mainstream media. The RCP8.5 assumptions have been a key computer input ‘pathway’ promoting the evidence-lite climate crisis since 2011. Almost every climate Armageddon story whether it be less tasty beer in future (yes, the BBC wrote that one), disappearing polar ice (take a bow, Sir David Attenborough, King Charles and the late Pope Francis) or increasing air turbulence has the fingerprints of RCP8.5 all over it.

The April 7th bombshell meant they were all officially junk.

This book shows that almost everything you have read or heard over the last 15 years in mainstream science, politics and media about future fireball Earth is little more than fake pseudoscientific drivel designed to drive populations to accept all the horrendous collectivist restrictions imposed by an insane, wicked rush to remove hydrocarbons from modern and developing industrial economies. …

RCP8.5 started life as a high-emissions worst case scenario, but its ability to throw off click-bait tales of climate doom led to it becoming a ‘business-as-usual’ pathway. When science grants need organising, green subsidies need collecting and politicians require their virtue to be signalled, who cared that children were sent to bed crying with tales of temperatures rising 5°C or more from a 1850–1900 baseline. Gulf stream shutting down by 2025 (yes, another BBC classic ‘scientists say’ nonsense story), millions of homes being flooded by metres of rising sea levels, sixth mass extinction well on its way – all justified junk to keep the Net Zero money rolling in.

The fact that life without multi-use hydrocarbons would be unimaginably bad, in fact fatal to billions of people, was ignored. Who cared to note that without hydrocarbon-produced fertiliser, half the world’s population would slowly die of starvation leading to endemic warfare as survivors fought for limited resources. In 2024, a newly elected, hard-Left Labour Government packed with Net Zero zealots stopped new drilling for oil and gas in the still plentiful North Sea. Concrete was poured down holes already drilled on land to help release the potentially vast supplies of valuable natural gas that lie beneath the ground in impoverished and deindustrialised areas of England. At the beginning of 2025, 200 members of the British Parliament were prepared to vote for a private member’s bill that would have cut all hydrocarbon use in the UK to just 10% within a decade, barely enough to sustain emergency services.

Such is the level of stupidity and ignorance, these legislating lunatics probably assumed that if their horror-show of a bill became law, they would still be able to pick up their soy lattes on their way to shop for organic hummus in Waitrose.

Chapter 1: Hydrocarbons

In the developing world, hydrocarbons promise an end to endemic hunger, healthier populations and longer and more prosperous lifespans. There is no better word than wicked to describe shutting the door on all these civilising benefits.

Almost all the proposed energy replacements are little short of risible. Implausible, no less. A modern economy cannot run on the breezes and beams since the power is intermittent. There is no viable solution to solving the on/off problem, something that the Net Zero zealots will never admit. Battery backup will only ever be measured in minutes when required at scale, hydrogen is expensive to produce and dangerous with it while tidal power is often horrendously expensive. Nuclear power is useful base load but fails the football half-time kettle boiling test when electricity demand suddenly spikes.

Only gas and oil can currently run a modern electricity grid if security, safety and price are given the highest priority. As we have seen in many countries around the world over the last 20 years including the UK and Germany, wind and solar are little more than expensive add-ons that have led to soaring electricity costs and subsequent job-destroying deindustrialisation. Activists often stress that wind and solar are ‘free’, a concept so stupid and lacking in economic insight that despair in human intelligence is the only response. Hydrocarbons offer enormous kinetic power that harnessed over the last 300 years has transformed human societies in ways our ancestors would have found almost impossible to believe.

At the start of the 18th Century, most people barely moved outside the village they were born in. Now they can travel relatively cheaply to almost any part of the world that takes their fancy. Despite the emotional strictures of Messrs Windsor, Packham, Attenborough and Monbiot, are they really going to give that up, along with proper heat, food, sanitation and medicine when the desperate truth about Net Zero is finally understood?

We cannot do without hydrocarbons whether it be the energy they provide or the countless uses made of petrochemicals. They will be around for a very long time; many might argue they have a glittering future.

Chapter 2: Climate Science

Not to put too fine a point on it, humanity owes a great deal to the beneficence that nature bestows in the form of plentiful hydrocarbons, as the last chapter showed. But wait, some hold the opinion that using them will cause Earth to be cast into eternal ecological damnation, possibly the day after tomorrow. If this is true, none can disagree and we must embrace starvation, hard manual labour, outdoor composted lavvies, reduced populations and misery all round by leaving the stuff in the ground.

The sins of the Industrial Revolution will be purged and Gaia will be saved.

All we need is conclusive proof that humans control the climate thermostat by slapping steak on the BBQ (coal fired, of course) and flying to Fuengirola. But regrettably, all we get is a tissue of lies, misinformation, cherry-picking and political shenanigans, all bound up in a preposterous statement that 97% of scientists believe most recent warming is caused by humans.

Like the Roman Pontiffs of old, the science is declared ex cathedra to be settled. Some activists like wind grifter Dale Vince and climate comedy turn Jim Dale (more in ‘Climate Clots and Comedians’) argue that it should be a criminal offence to debate the matter. As we shall see, the entire ‘settled’ science con, embraced by mainstream media, politicians and activist scientists, does little more than reveal the deep and depressing depths to which scientific integrity has fallen. …

The long-time climate sceptic and geological scientist Dr Ian Plimer is fond of noting that there is not a single science paper that proves conclusively the current opinions around anthropogenic global warming. If there was, you would not hear the last of it, he adds. It is a true and at the same time an easy statement to make. The atmosphere of the Earth and its reactions with the land and the oceans is chaotic and non-linear. In parts it is little understood and thus unmeasurable for all important climatic intents and purposes.

The more we look, the more we learn about the complex ways that uneven amounts of heat are transferred from the tropics to the poles by currents of every kind. This is the primary cause of weather. With the knowledge we have, it is impossible to attribute human cause to individual weather events or long-term climate change given the huge variations produced by natural forces. It just is, and anyone who tells you otherwise should consider a new career renting space in Mystic Meg’s tent at the local fairground.

So, activists use computer models to provide their so-called evidence, but these, as their dismal record over 40 years shows, give us little real guidance. As the growing scandal of the implausible RCP8.5 pathway reveals, they are often worse than useless. Models tell us nothing, but observations provide vital information about what has actually happened.

To that end, Dr Plimer notes that the number of geologists who believe in anthropogenic global warming can be counted on the fingers of a sawmill worker’s hand. In their studies, geologists can see the past, notably how the Earth has changed over the 600 million years back to when life as we know it today started to form.

Looking at the record of CO2 and temperatures going back to the Cambrian epoch, we see little connection over the 600 million years. Sometimes they rise and fall together; often they do not. There is no evidence in the record that suggests a strong, unbreakable connection – something that the current opinion on human-caused global warming surely demands.

Furthermore, it is interesting to note that the atmospheric CO2 level was much higher in the past, with the average over 600 million years probably around 2,700 parts per million (ppm). That is nearly seven times higher than the current denuded level of 420 ppm. Far from spending pointless billions of pounds on CO2 ‘capture’, it might be better to hope it rises a little longer. Plants have evolved to grow efficiently in much higher CO2 levels, and over the last 40 years a tad more food in the atmosphere has led to a sensational but largely unreported 15% ‘greening’ of the Earth.

A blatant power grab by the criminally insane; ruling over the weak-minded and gullible while destroying the basis of most human freedom and prosperity. The modern world was built with energy dense systems to which diffuse Retarded Energy systems will never compare, except sporadically and intermittently! The world of large scale, successful wind and PV systems exists only in the minds of eager Green acolytes, with hairshirts and self-flagellation for all!

Yes.

“the Trump-Putin diesel deal isn’t just about diesel. Just like the Belarus potash deal was not just about potash. What both the Russian-diesel fuel and Belarusian-potash have in common is an agreed pricing system that is outside western commodity structures.
Whether he intends it or not, President Trump is revealing the banking and finance system that profits from control of how energy products are bought and sold. This is further evidenced when you look at the Ukraine support assembly through the prism of what nations and political interests promote the climate change agenda.
It is not accidental that every nation and political apparatus supporting Ukraine is part of the green energy, climate change, Paris Climate Treaty, Build Back Better advocacy group.
On the banking/finance side, the western control system tries to block funding for coal, oil and gas. Those who price the markets for these energy products operate directly inside the same institutions. Chairman Xi, President Putin, Crown Prince MbS and President Donald Trump represent the other side of that dynamic and support traditional low-price energy development.”

Bingo. The city of London is feverishly trying to maintain the imperial banking/insurance cartel. Trump is trying to up-end it and restore the Hamiltonian (American) system. The former sustains itself as a parasitic load controlling and managing those who actually produce. I.e., free (not fair) trade, one world market with banking and insurance driving it all.

The latter sustains itself by production of actual goods and enforcing fair trade via targeted tariffs. It also recognizes the national security aspect of having viable domestic foundational heavy industries such as mining, refining and heavy manufacturing. For example, there is a benefit to having a viable domestic steel industry, even if that means that steel might cost a little more.

Re to the EU official statistics: from March 2022 to July 2026, EU countries paid Russia no less than EUR197 billion (cir US$ 209 billion) for fossil fuels. Hope this may serve as an eye-opener for you.

[“Enjoy steak and chips? Sorry, mush, it’s a plant-based diet for you from now on.”]

Beef, Pork, Lamb, & Chicken are a plant-based diet, so are fish, as they all pre-process low-grade, indigestible (to us) plant material into high-grade, high-protein food.

Idealism is for the simple minded- not necessarily stupid- just those hoping for simple solution to big problems. Realism is- well, more realistic, if painful as it offers no utopia.

If they are True Believers, don’t bother. They will just hang, disembowel, and chop the binding off, then put it through the shredder. They don’t want to free their minds from their Climate Chains.

Glad to see this emphasis on the general circulation. In 1938, when Callendar proposed to attribute a warming trend in station data to emissions of CO2 from burning coal, Simpson and Brunt explained to him very politely why it was not possible to determine a cause-and-effect connection to the computed radiative influence of rising concentrations. In other words, it was implausible all along to expect a radiative computation – now through digital computers – to have any diagnostic or prognostic value concerning the influence of rising CO2 on temperature or on any variable of climate interest. More here.

Direct observational evidence from space of the effect of CO2 increase on longwave spectral radiances: the unique role of high-spectral-resolution measurements.
João Teixeira, R. Chris Wilson, and Heidar Th. Thrastarson

https://acp.copernicus.org/articles/24/6375/2024/

“as far as the authors are aware, this study represents the first attempt to establish a more precise experimental confirmation from space of the direct effects of CO2 on longwave spectral radiances. The results (solely based on observations) confirm that the effects of the recent atmospheric CO2 increase on longwave spectral radiances follow theoretical estimates. As such, these results confirm a critical foundation of the science of global warming.“

Nice to hear from you again, AB. We’ve been through this before.

There is no justification for the leap from spectral details, isolated by meticulous selection, to support a claim that overall longwave emitter output will be suppressed. That overall output can only be assessed by integration over the full spectrum and over time and location over the entire surface.

So it just doesn’t work the way you suppose, as we can readily observe from space. I encourage you to think more carefully about the scientific matters at issue here.

Say what? The first confirmation? But.. but.. we all now know that the big oil companies knew the absolute truth about this problem, way, way back in the ’70s! /s

“Direct observational evidence from space”

That doesn’t tell us anything about what’s happening on the surface of the Earth, though, does it? Do you have anything relevant to add to the discussion?

The results (solely based on observations) confirm that the effects of the recent atmospheric CO2 increase on longwave spectral radiances follow theoretical estimates.

I would make the observation that this says there is an “increase on longwave spectral radiances”. The paper then makes a giant leap to the conclusion that CO2 is the “critical foundation” of global warming.

The conclusion doesn’t follow from the observation. That the atmosphere has warmed somewhat is true. That alone, regardless of the cause, would cause an increase is radiance from CO2.

Can one isolate a reduction in clouds as being the main factor in atmospheric warming? Maybe. If so, then more concrete information must be given before leaping to a conclusion that it is CO2, and only CO2, being the foundational cause.

BTW, your link doesn’t work for me.

The only part of the system of Sun/Earth energy input and output that is totally radiative is from the atmospheric surfaces of both bodies.
That is the top of the solar furnace and the top of the earth’s atmosphere.
The transport of the radiation energy from the sun which strikes all part of planet earth, the air and the oceans and the land does not happen at the speed of light and involves primarily conduction and convection with much smaller contribution from radiation, much more complex and far slower.
Also, within the shell of atmosphere the thermodynamics at play involve changes in entropy so that all re-radiation of all energy shifts DOWN the electromagnetic spectrum ie. sand does not radiate like the flames of the sun so the highly energetic part of the spectrum of the incident light is diminished, that means it is NOT a perfect mirror.

Dave, keep up the good work. Heat energy transport in the atmosphere is not conveyed properly by just dealing with temperature or radiation. Water vapor contains so much heat energy that it must also be included in the equation. That means enthalpy is the only real measurement that should be dealt with. The answer of heat in the oceans and land is important.

The atmospheric water cycle, evaporation to condensation, involves much more than simply “heat energy” (temperature). The multitude of energy forms involved in cloud formation, transport and dissipation, include pressure, potential, kinetic, latent, radiative, electric, maybe even chemical, all of which can be engaged in transition and none of which are measured by the Thermometer-Readers’ only tool. And that’s before they mess up the thermometer’s only utility by “averaging” the readings!

My guess is that it will take at least a third-generation AI, operating on a quantum calculator, to master the complexity of cloud formation and dissipation sufficiently to model the energy flows of the water cycle from surface fog to high ice clouds.

Just why do you think that anybody in the settled-science and hard left community will read the book. Lots of luck! Happer and Wijngaarden threw the final stone among many others into the climate scare a few years ago when they found that actual atmospheric physics shows that more CO2 can have little effect on climate or weather even if doubled. Their findings have never been refuted not has anybody in the “settled” community bothered to try probably because they are smart enough to know they can’t. Yet they continue on to this day claiming “climate change” has harmed countless people despite actual data showing that this is simply not happening. The settled and hard left people do not care about facts, never have, and never will. They are comfy and make too much money to do that.

I don’t understand what’s in it for the elites that push AGW. They are in their positions of wealth due to Capitalism. A seat at the table of the New World Order? Are they ignoring history and how Marxism will treat them once they are used? Don’t they see they are nothing but useful idiots?

For the elite, Marxism means more wealth and less work.

For everyone else it means more work and grinding poverty.

Thank you for the heads up on this book. Here in the U.K., because of the BBC’s dominant media position, it is very hard for reasoned scientific discussion on this subject to be heard. The BBC says it is an impartial news organisation – and then adds that catastrophic anthropogenic global warming is settled science. Extraordinary and shameful.

While keeping up the good science work could everyone also call out the continuing failure of journalism. I speak as a former journalist and it can take courage to report factual content when it goes against the prevailing social grain. But we must hold the media’s feet to the fire.

I tell folk that for those people who “believe” in CAGW there are only three explanations:

  1. They haven’t read the science.
  2. They have read the science but didn’t understand it.
  3. They are charlatans.

If there are any other explanations out there I would like to hear them.

No one should be surprised at these revelations/accusations since governments, retailers, manufacturers, researchers, academics, etc. are always looking for gimmicks that will force taxpayers/ consumers to either buy their products or subsidize their crisis agendas. Except the last few years have shown the whole climate scare has been mainly a scam resulting in higher living costs, while the weather just went through its usual fluctuations without threatening civilization. So people should just ignore the whole issue is but keep alert for the next con-job.
