Live at 1 PM ET: Godzilla El Niño is Coming! — The Climate Realism Show #205

The Heartland Institute

Ocean temps are rising in the tropical Pacific Ocean, a natural and regular phenomenon called El Niño. Climate modelers say this year’s could be one of the biggest ever, and some have nicknamed it “Godzilla El Niño!” That’s a fun name, but what can we expect in this El Niño cycle? The Climate Realism Show’s Anthony Watts, Linnea Lueken, Jim Lakely, and special guest Lois Perry will talk about that.

We will also cover some of the Crazy Climate News of the Week, including: global airlines giving up on their always absurd NetZero by 2050 goal, giant fire tornadoes to clean up oil spills, Democrats backing off their pledges to stop oil and gas in the face of higher fuel costs, and will Trump’s Endangerment Finding repeal soon also apply to power plants?

Join us Friday at 1 p.m. ET on YouTube, Rumble, X, and Facebook. Participate in the show by leaving your comments and questions in the chat.

Godzilla marketing of scare is the new climate consulting assault on low information types. Such marketing campaigns are based on ad volume across as many outlets as possible without any substance underneath.

It’s a consequential evolution of climate fearporn.

We started with harmless climate change; rebranded climate chaos,
then climate catastrophe and now Kaiju Climate(they love alliterations).

Weather Weirding was a term that was tried, but never caught on. The marketing execs can’t always bat 1000.

Was destined to fail as “Weird” has too many positive associations these days and nothing threatening.

If it brings warmer weather to the cool wet UK I’m all for it.

June has been cool so far, but spring (March-May) was the third warmest on record for the UK, just behind 2024 and 2025.

How soon we forget….

I just did a cross-correlation between NINO3.4 region of the Pacific and N. Atlantic sea surface temperature, where most of European weather originates. There is an unimpressive peak correlation of just 0.15 at 11 months lag behind the El Nino regions. There is an equally strong peak at -33 months, so on that basis you could say N. Atl SST causes El Nino. This is NOT statistically significant.

Plus you have to trust the accuracy of the input data

Coal is “dirty” but that has nothing to do with CO2. CO2 is not “dirt”. It is a colorless, odorless gas which is the basis of all life as we know it on planet Earth.

Coal is Coal.. it is not “dirt”

“dirt” is something different…. and comprised mainly of sand, silt, clay, mineral particles, water, air and active organic matter.

Coal could be “sooty” and release carbon particles… but is not “dirty”

You can’t live without water either; but you can also drown in it.

Being essential for life does not render something entirely harmless.

What level of CO2 will harm us ?

Humans can cope with CO2 levels MANY times higher than current atmospheric levels.

Plants would prefer at least two to three times current levels.

CO2 at any possible increased atmospheric concentration is absolutely beneficial to all life on Earth.

Absolutely ! Just poking the Nail .

(as a nuc sub vet ….5,000 ppm or more for months )

There are slightly warmer seas in the Niño 3.4 region. Could changes in ocean currents be the cause?

Could it be changes in sun-induced perturbation on the barycenter?

Absorbed solar radiation is still increasing. Clouds and albedo !

The fact is that even a moderate El Nino now will set new global temperature records, such is its impact on the already warming underlying trend.

Global surface air temperature anomaly
Daily average Baseline: 1991-2020 Data: ERA5
17 November 2023: 1.15°C
10 Jun 2026: 0.59°C
No temperature record.

The fact is all El Nino’s are natural events that have nothing to do with human caused trends.

Since they are natural and all substantial warming events occurs during El Nino’s should give you a clue, but no.

According to NINO3.4, El Nino has been very much in the ascendancy for the last 50 years.

Here are the cycles graphed so that the comparison can be made.

Very little below the La Nina threshold.. a lot more above the El Nino threshold.

Great to see you finally admitting that it is El Ninos causing increased temperature.

The climate alarmists absolutely love them, even though they are absolutely NOTHING to do with CO2 levels.

The underlying trend comes from El Nino events, which are the only cause of atmospheric warming.

“El Niño is a climate pattern where the Pacific Ocean’s trade winds weaken, causing unusually warm water to pool near the Americas.”

El Nino is a name given to a pattern of weather.
El Nino does not cause anything.

Eg
IF swear words painted on commuter trains is given the name ‘squiglywiggly’
THEN ‘squiglywiggly’ is not the cause of bad language painted on train windows.
(Teenagers with spray cans are probably the cause)

Eg Eg
IF warm weather is part of a pattern given the name ‘El Nino’
THEN ‘El Nino’ is not the cause of warm weather in the climate record.
(Whatever -caused- the warm weather is -the cause- of the warm weather)
