Forty per cent of Australian women without kids hesitant to have children because of climate change, survey finds

More than a third of Coalition voters believe temperatures will not rise at all, poll shows

About 40% of Australian women without kids say they are hesitant to have children because of climate change, a new survey suggests.

The survey, on attitudes about the impacts of global heating, also found that half of Australians were very or extremely concerned about climate change and two in five believed the climate would be “much hotter” in 2050.

The survey – which involved a nationally representative sample of 2,000 people – found Labor, Greens and independent voters were three times more likely to express high levels of concern about climate change compared with conservative voters.

Concern about climate change was also much more strongly correlated with education level than with age.

The climate attitudes survey is available here. The survey was organised by Professor Clive Hamilton of Charles Sturt University.

The survey notes a correlation between level of tertiary education vs concern about climate change.

One possible explanation, advanced by Professor Hamilton, is this might be because people with more advanced educations better understand the dangers we face from climate change.

Or it could be participation or response bias. It is pretty risky these days for anyone interested in an Australian academia related career to be outed as a climate skeptic. Look what happened to Professor Peter Ridd.

On a serious note I worry for people who really want to have kids but have been caught up in the climate hysteria. Having a kid can be scary, especially your first. It doesn’t take much additional fear to turn hesitation into delay.

There was a childless couple who used to live next to my grandparents house, they were always nice to me when I visited as a young kid, always ready with a plate of cookies. But there was unhappiness in their eyes which I noticed even as a kid. At Christmas time my grandparents’ house was full of joy and happiness and lots of wrapping paper, but the neighbours never wanted to see anyone at Christmas. No family ever visited.

One day, they just weren’t there anymore. My grandpa never explained what happened, he just said they moved away, but he looked troubled when he told me. I was only 9 years old at the time, but I knew better than to ask questions.

My grandpa told me they never had kids because they were worried about nuclear war.

Many years later my wife and I felt a touch of that despair, but we were fortunate, and things worked out in the end.

Let’s hope those who actually want kids, those who aren’t using climate hysteria as a convenient cover story for not wanting kids, lets hope they see through the falsehoods before it is too late.

I don’t feel any sympathy for people taken in by the climate scare tactics, especially as the implication is they are the ‘well educated’ amongst us. In fact let’s celebrate this finding as it gives us some kind of timeline as to when we’ll be ride of this nonsense…probably 2 generations of people not having kids because their scared of their own shadow.

Its a good thing that people who can’t think for themselves aren’t procreating.

Education has become the opposite of Wisdom these days.

The absence of wisdom has either become a requirement of education
or education has been weaponized to destroy wisdom.

people with more advanced educations better understand the dangers we face from climate change.

A more likely explanation is that those who have been exposed to the indoctrination for longer, are more likely to have been taken in by it.

It’s also true that people with PhDs are more likely to believe that government is the solution for all problems. For pretty much the same reason.

Spot On – the reason why Prof. Roland Fryer, though Harvard educated, hasn’t become a woke piece of shit, but actually contributed something of value by publishing a paper that proved that blacks are not being shot at higher rates than other races,
was that he started there with a sports scholarship and had no contact with the selfcongratulating,integrity-free superhumanists and only later turned out to be a math genius.
Being around with normal human beings instead of the corrupted class of Borg-Droids saved his human nature.

After he published his paper his carreer was ruined by his peers including a kangaroo court and the typical sex alligations.Even his skin color couldn’t save him.

I would be interested in knowing what area of “advanced” education they are talking about.

A lot of the climate “hystericals” seem to be in the humanities, philosophy, environmental… etc, and other studies that don’t actually lead to making anything. !

Most liberals are stop at two or even one they admire China’s one child per couple policy. I should look all that up. Anyway Democrats aren’t creating Democrat voters via the birth canal. And that’s reason #1 why they want open borders.

Migrants want a free ride and Democrats want their vote.

I can understand how people would become concerned after all they are pummeled with CAGW nonsense 24/7 at school, work, by the news, by their government, by academics, by their churches, by their friends and relatives but at the end of the day they are responsible for determining what is right and what is wrong. With a small amount of effort people can find several groups or organizations who are skeptics of the CAGW mantra. It’s not that hard. It is hard to empathize with those who do nothing to find the truth.

Mike Rowe is one of the most sensible social thinkers out there today. As you may know, he promotes the idea of kids going into the trades. Check out his interview with Alex Epstein recently on the climate topic, with Bill Gates’ revised messaging as the talking point. Kinda long, but you can get the point quickly.

In high school in the ’60s, we were told not to go into the trades- go to college. We looked down on the trades. But the older I get the more I respect the trades people. They’re just as smart as college educated people but in a different way- and generally with a lot more common sense. Instead of working in paper mills during my college summers- I wish I had spent that time working for a variety of tradesmen. Having at least the basic skills is very helpful once you own a home. Not that you’ll attempt to do all that work yourself- but at least you’ll have better luck choosing which tradesman you need for a project or repair.

I do not know how long it will be before Trump is proven correct on the climate hoax although his label is wrong. It is fraud by definition.

Using an anomaly to temperature is highly deceptive. All Global Warming™ is better described as less cold. For example, most “warming” has occurred on the Greenland plateau in January. up from minus 35C to minus 25C in the past 70 years; a 10C increase that is fraudulent to describe as “warming”.

According to GHCN the peak global temperature was reached in 2010:
comment image?fit=960%2C388&quality=75&ssl=1

So the whole fairy tale is built on deceptive presentation of factual data. It is pervasive in academia and government funded institutions and we can only trust that individuals are brought to account for this deception.

When was the last time a new high temperature record was set on the globe. If the globe was getting hotter in the manner portrayed there should be a new global record temperature every year.

If these women and anyone else is refusing to have children because they’re worried about the effects of climate change, it’s a good thing. If they’re so naive to believe all the drivel about the matter in the first place, they don’t need to pass on their shortage of brain power and critical thinking skills to another generation since there are too many suckers out there already.

I joined the first class to go through James Cook, in its second year. So, not quite an original first.
In those days, the early 1979s, we undergrads were near 100% focussed on the hard work of study to pass tough exams. I have kept some exam questions from physics. Students of today cannot comprehend then, too hard.
Very little time remained at Uni back then to debate social matters like freedom of speech. I think the times were better for it, especially for the hard Sciences, maybe less for Arts which don’t matter much anyhow.
