They say you can hear the wailing from space—or at least from deep within the editorial dungeon of The Guardian, where climate correspondents are reportedly being consoled with soy lattes and participation trophies after the unthinkable occurred: the Trump administration canceled funding for ICF International, the contractor coordinating America’s National Climate Assessment (NCA). That’s right—the federal sugar spigot has been shut off, and the climate clergy are not taking it well.
Let’s start with a gem from The Guardian’s April 9th obituary for the ICF’s federal funding:
“There’s really no coming back from this,” moaned one anonymous staffer, whose main contribution to planetary salvation apparently consisted of convening meetings and photocopying catastrophic graphs. “I’m left without a support system and the latest science on climate change”.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/09/trump-national-climate-assessment-usgcrf
Good heavens. Without a publicly funded bureaucracy to remind them that hot weather in August is now “unprecedented,” how will America survive?
But fear not, dear reader, for this is not the death of science—it’s the euthanasia of a political machine disguised as one.
The NCA: Where Science Goes to Be Molded Like Play-Doh
According to the Breakthrough Institute, the NCA, in its current state, is less an objective scientific document and more “a political tool” riddled with alarmist framing and selective citation. It is, to borrow their phrase, “far less useful than its potential.” Kind of like a $10,000 espresso machine at a climate summit—impressive, expensive, and mostly producing froth.
The report is infamous for its headline-friendly key messages like “Systemic Racism and Discrimination Exacerbate Climate Impacts on Human Health.” Because nothing says peer-reviewed science like intersectionality word salads.
Breakthrough’s critique reads like a full autopsy: lack of systematic review, heavy bias toward worst-case scenarios, and reliance on cherry-picked data. The NCA isn’t informing policy—it’s auditioning for a spot on MSNBC.
The Real Tragedy? No More Government-Paid Fiction Writers
One “federal climate expert” (anonymous, of course) bemoaned that firing ICF staff “guts the entire climate research and services ecosystem”. Translation: a few dozen Beltway bureaucrats lost their raison d’être—and, more importantly, their federal per diems. Another lamented that the sixth National Climate Assessment is now “effectively destroyed.” Cue dramatic string music and shots of melting glaciers.
Meanwhile, back in the world of actual evidence, the Fifth NCA was already shredded by independent analysis. Larry Hamlin here at WUWT exposed the report’s sleight-of-hand, such as combining data from geographically disparate regions (like Alaska and Hawaii) with the continental U.S. to fabricate an alarming warming trend. Real NOAA data—stripped of manipulative region-stacking—shows no significant temperature anomaly increase in the U.S. since the 1930s. In other words, the “hottest ever” narrative evaporates under scrutiny, like a snowflake in Phoenix.
The Real Inconvenient Truth: This Was Never About Science
If the NCA were a scientific document, its elimination would be met with a sober discussion about methodology. Instead, we get Michael Mann, the godfather of hockey-stick hysteria, declaring that ending ICF’s contract is:
“A crime against the planet – arguably, the most profound of all crimes”.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/09/trump-national-climate-assessment-usgcrf
Calm down, Michael. Genocide, war, and famine would like a word. This isn’t a crime—it’s budget discipline.
Let’s face it: the NCA and its incestuous network of climate “experts” have long functioned as an echo chamber for worst-case modeling, doomsday predictions, and lucrative consulting gigs. Scrapping it isn’t the apocalypse—it’s spring cleaning.
Don’t Cry for ICF, Argentina
The cancellation of ICF’s contract doesn’t signal the end of climate science. It signals the end of publicly funded ideological propaganda masquerading as science. It’s a budgetary course correction, a rebalancing of priorities, and a much-needed cold splash of reality.
And judging by the caterwauling from The Guardian, it hit exactly where it should.
Keep your tissues handy, climate clerics. The gravy train has left the station—and it’s coal-powered.

I would be worried if the Grauniad approved. Have they ever been on the right side of anything, ever?
Probably to the right of Pol Pot. Possibly, at times, to the right of Stalin and Mao.
It was the Daily Express that was on the side of Hitler. Bourgeois leftists like the Guardian were just as hated by the communists as the right.
They can always find jobs at Disneyland.
keep them away from the children!
“They say you can hear the wailing from space”
I was reliably informed some time ago by the estimable Ridley Scott that: “In space no one can hear you scream“. Maybe the one doing the screaming can, I suppose?

Lets put to one side the fact that the paper was founded on the proceeds of slavery, shall we?
The Grauniad stopped publishing its daily sales figures a few years ago, probably because they were too embarrassing.
No actual readers, their schtick is selling their stories to other media for fees. That money maker is shrinking faster than the readership as why would you not go direct to the source
“I was reliably informed some time ago by the estimable Ridley Scott that: “In space no one can hear you scream“.”
Well, technically, in space, you can’t scream.
Technically, we are already in ‘space’. We’re just on a planet in space, instead of a spaceship.
No, we’re in an atmosphere. If were in space, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
Mikey Mann is a crime against logic, truth, science, and all of humanity.
He is – for want of a better word – a “fundamentalist”.
…but with the ”fun” removed and the “fu” retained.
Mikey is afraid his crime of mannipulating the temperature record is going to be exposed to the general public.
Mann and a few of his co-conspirators are the cause of all this Net Zero insanity by creating the BIG LIE Hockey Stick global temperature chart, which distorts reality about CO2 and temperatures. If not for them, nobody would be worrying about CO2 or the climate.
Mann is the last person on Earth to be advising anyone on climate.
Government spent $4.6 billion on furniture for agency headquarters even though they are less than 1/4 occupied. States are suing to get back their billions for covid “programs.” The free money spigot for these worthless leeches on the backs of productive workers is ending. Their cries of pain and suffering brings me joy. Schadenfreude.
Maybe after Trump retires from the White House, he’ll run for governor of Wokeachusetts. 🙂

Dem states to blame for most of the nearly $400 million in unemployment fraud over last 4 years, DOGE says
Alec Schemmel
Fri, April 11, 2025
“After finding $382 million in fraudulent unemployment payments since 2020, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) identified California, New York and Massachusetts as the primary culprits.”

It’s interesting that a great number of climate change NGOs and web sites have disappeared since USAID programs were shut down. It’s almost as though some of the money was eventually funding them….

The climate grifters will be wallowing in their self indulgent rhetorical existential armageddon. If only they could channel their alarmism for actual environmental realism. Why can’t we fix the things we can actually see?
The embracing of this climate change garbage has been one of the worst things that has happened to the environmental movement. When I was younger, I considered myself to be an environmentalist. I wanted to see actual pollution cleaned up, and open spaces and endangered species protected. But, when it all became about “climate change” that turned me off big time and I stopped supporting organizations that used to be about tackling real problems. And I’m sure I’m not the only person who has rejected mainstream environmentalism because of that.
You are a conservationist not an environmentalist. Conservationist know there are trade off that need to be considered and humans are part of the ecosystem. Environmentalist want humans dead, in their warped minds anything humans do to live is bad. They believe in the myth of the noble savage, and have no idea what struggle and life was and the damage said noble savages could do since they did not have cheep plentiful energy at their finger tips. I was once where you were. The early environmentalist did a lot of good, today they are destructive. They willinf to sacrifice anything on the altar of climate change! That is except their creature comforts after all that it for the us peons to live and die in our cold dark hovels.
Shutting down the ICF contract for the NCA coordination, and by consequence the NCA itself, is just one step of many needed get back to sanity, and ending the biggest scientific scam ever.
Headquartered in Reston, VA, ICF corporation itself is just a big taxpayer-funded Grift machine. It gets sweetheart government contracts from all sorts of Democrat Party pork hand-outs from various government agencies. All of course with the expectation to send part of this money back to Democrats’ campaigns. All part of the DC Beltway Swamp. ICF is likely gonna under much deeper revenue cuts than just its NCA coordination contracts with NASA, EPA, Interior Dept, etc.
ICF was the contractor for Demographic and Health Surveys contract from the now shuttered USAID graft machine. Thank you Elon and DOGE.
ICF International (NASDAQ stock symbol: ICFI) stock has been tanking since Trump’s victory in November. Its likely to go even lower in the coming months as institutional investors shed this sinking boat from their portfolios and and mutual funds. The election of President Trump started the huge decline in ICFI market cap, from $170 range, down to ~$84 on Friday. It will go lower, likely much lower as the investment community rebalances the Democrat’s graft-machine DOGE losers out of their funds.
It’s always a good day when the Guardian is unhappy.
Without government/funds the other side has nothing. Remove the funds, the mandates and the whole stinking mess goes away.
Something needs to be done about the leftwing billionaires, too. They spend lots of money on the climate change scam.
‘Climate clerics’…hadn’t heard that one before but it’s a beauty! Thanks. Can I copy it??
Naturally The Guardian, like all alarmist outlets, doesn’t hesitate to pull out all the stops to control the bleeding. It sees the climate scam collapsing so why not include racism and discrimination all being partly to blame? Carbon emissions from fossil fuels aren’t convincing anyone any more, nor are all the other unlikely culprits, so racism and discrimination might as well be given a try. No doubt they’ll be just as persuasive as the earlier arguments.
“I’m left without a support system and the latest science on climate change”
…and here was me thinking the science was settled and we just had to get on with the fickles and battery stuff from China?
Gives the game away. They were just a leach , not creating anything
ICF should be canceled entirely, along with numerous other Beltway Bandits whose exclusive raison d’être is to feed at the federal pig trough.
