Green Billionaires Press Hollywood to Promote Armageddon Climate Messages in Movies

From The DAILY SCEPTIC

BY CHRIS MORRISON

Green billionaires are pouring money into discreet campaigns to persuade Hollywood writers to catastrophise the climate in future film and television scripts. One of their main vehicles is Good Energy, which tells writers that showing anger, depression, grief or other emotion in relation to the climate crisis, “can only make characters more relatable”. Los Angeles-based Good Energy is funded by numerous billionaire foundations including Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Sierra Club and the Climate Emergency Fund; the latter operation is part-funded by Aileen Getty and is one of the paymasters of the Just Stop Oil pests.

Good Energy aims to weave climate alarm into all types of film-making, “especially” if it is not about climate. With the support of Bloomberg, it recently published ‘Good Energy – A Playbook for Screenwriting in the Age of Climate Change’. It claims the Playbook is “now the industry’s go-to guide to incorporating climate into any storyline or genre”. As with almost all green campaigning groups, Good Energy would not exist without the support of billionaire funding. These operations seek a supra-national collectivist Net Zero solution to a claimed climate emergency. Good Energy acknowledges it would not exist without this funding, adding, “as collaborators and champions, each has provided a unique contribution for which we are endlessly grateful”.

Announcing the launch of the ‘Playbook’, Bloomberg Philanthropies, the tax-efficient ‘charity’ channel for distributing the wealth of former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, noted that “accurate and relatable storytelling about climate impacts and solutions can grow public support and motivate decision makers”. As regular readers of the Daily Sceptic will recall, billionaire foundations are grooming populations around the world by funding a variety of press, political and academic operations. Most significant non-profit bodies seeking to stop the use of hydrocarbons are funded from these sources. Few green campaigns arise from ‘grass roots’ these days. Put to the vote, for instance, the Green Party in the U.K. loses most of its election seat deposits.

Since this is La La Land, Good Energy has some relevant advice for writers to normalise climate friendly actions. “Let’s reimagine what it looks like for a character to eat a plant-rich diet (Michelin Green Star restaurant, yes!), attend a protest or upcycle vintage clothes. And if your story requires a yacht, why not make it solar powered.” That last idea might appeal to super-yacht lover Leonardo DiCaprio, but private planes, the preferred method of transportation for many high-end Hollywood stars, might be a problem. Hypocrisy a problem with all this? Not according to the Playbook, which quotes climate activist Bill McKibben that “hypocrisy is the price of admission in this battle”. For plebs, gammons, fly-overs and deplorables, this of course translates as “you do what you are told and radically change your lives – we don’t give a flying flamingo”.

Needles so say, a mere climate crisis is not enough for über-woke luvvies. It is not separate from other critical social issues like racism, sexism, economic injustice and war. The Playbook notes that “indigenous people are the first climate scientists, and indigenous people are leading us through this climate crisis”. Climate can be a “generative lens with which to view any subject or character”, the Playbook helpfully notes. For scripted entertainment, observes Good Energy, “the emotional truth is as important as the literal truth”.

Good Energy was started in 2019 and its influence and services seem to be growing within the U.S. west coast film industry. Rolling Stone recently profiled the operation in an article titled ‘How Hollywood is Crafting A New Climate Change Narrative’. One of Good Energy’s “standout” projects last year was a collaboration with Scott Z Burns on the series Extrapolations for Apple TV+. This was said to be the first mainstream show centred entirely around climate. It starred Meryl Streep in eight interconnected stories over 33 years and was said to explore how the planet’s changing climate will affect family, work, faith and survival. Rolling Stone reports that the operation is “dedicated” to ensuring that within three years, 50% of contemporary TV and film acknowledges climate change.

It is unsurprising that the power of film and TV to influence large audiences is being captured to promote a political message. During the 2021 COP 26 meeting in Glasgow, seven soap opera programmes in the U.K. including Coronation Street and Eastenders joined forces to highlight climate change. Most of the plot lines were clumsily inserted into existing storylines and in an era of declining audiences, the experiment does not appear to have been repeated.

Nevertheless, elite billionaires are pulling out all the stops to insert climate Armageddon messaging into all forms of media. As I write, the BBC climate disinformation reporter Marco Silva is possibly learning how to improvise on the theme of a mango during his six-month sabbatical at the Oxford Climate Journalism Network. Past funders of the course include the European Climate Fund, which is supported by Extinction Rebellion funder Sir Christopher Hohn. Previous course attendees were told to pick a fruit such as a mango and discuss why it wasn’t as tasty as the year before due to the impact of climate change.

Truly, La La Land meeting the make-believe world of BBC Verify.

Wouldn’t it be amazing if someone sponsored a movie where unreliable intermittent renewable energy caused death and destruction. That would actually be real!

I actually wonder why not. Maybe Elon Musk will buy the failing Disney Empire Inc (DEI). Probably he should wait until it drops another couple of 50-percents (recently lost 56% of its value).

People watch movies and TV for entertainment first and foremost. Surely the Hollywood financiers have noticed the woke bombs of recent years. If that’s how Bloomberg wants to redistribute his fortune, fine with me. The Hollywood crews who get moderately rich from his spending will probably be a little more discerning since they won’t have billions to waste.

https://www.fpri.org/article/2023/02/putin-the-green-the-unintended-consequences-of-russias-energy-war-on-europe/

Both before and during its re-invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russia cut energy supplies to Europe in an effort to force the continent to abandon Ukraine.Instead, Vladimir Putin accelerated Europe’s transition to green energy, decimating a key market for Russian exporters.Over the long term, Europe is well-positioned to win the energy war with Russia.

“Vladimir Putin has done more than almost any other single human being to speed up the end of the fossil fuel era.”

Thanks Putin

Putin’s war with Ukraine has many motives. We do know one motive was to keep US and Brazilian LNG out of the black sea, Eastern Europe and central Asia. Remember Putin invaded Ukraine in 2014 then went to Brazil with a big money plan and a green narrative to shut down Brazil’s NG/LNG industry. He was successful. Putin is no green he is the Oligarchs of Oligarchs if not the most powerful man on earth…..not just because he is a dictator because he is the deepest of deep pockets and it’s all sideways.

‘We do know one motive was to keep US and Brazilian LNG out of the black sea, Eastern Europe and central Asia.’

I’m calling BS on this – where on Earth is LNG competitive with pipeline gas?

Look, Putin’s a nationalist, but there’s no way he could have sabotaged the ‘West’ absent the socialist cancer that had already metastasized there.

When do monopolized prices compete with free trade prices. When would much of the Eastern European states like Ukraine not want to hedge their bets against Gazprom monopolized prices…. with a 44% increase in 2014? Prices that a factor 2.5 higher than they are today globally.

When would have France adhering to the 2010 EU prescription to turn down nuke power to zero by 2030 not want to hedge their bets against Gazprom?

Why was Brazil already to build a state of art LNG plan in 2011 to export their immense NG reserve to Europe, particularly France and then after Putin arrives in 2014 and immediately Brazil kills their NG industry.,

JC

As you can see Frank The world has changed a great deal since the Gazprom NG monopoly days 2002- 2014.

What if Obama stepped out of the way of the USA NG and LNG industry and Brazil Air France 447 with a Chenier LNG team, a team from Petrogas, Brazilian banking team and a Renault CNG automobile team hadn’t crashed into the middle of the Atlantic from 34,000 feet due to iced up Pitot navigation tubes, (how often does this happen at 34,000 and why are transoceanic flights not dropping out of the sky all the time with frozen pitot tubes?)

The answer is that natural gas prices would have been cut in more than half and Gazprom’s monopolized NG prices decimated if the NG and LNG market was allowed to be free and flourish. There would have been no hold on Europe for Putin.

Even today sans the climate change babble….FF supply has to be managed to keep increasing supply of NG from decimating FF prices globally. Do you know how this is managed? Don’t give me market factorials tell me about how it is politically managed.

Why EV’s when CNG cars would run off fuel 1/2 price of gasoline? (BTW the Indians love driving the CNG cars with Russian NG…. don’t hardly even have to refine it so why isn’t NG even more cheaper than gasoline?)

Why Gasoline cars when CNG if 50% cheaper?
Why renewables, when it’s far cheaper to do multi-tier ng generation?
Why nuke power when multi-tier NG is much cheaper?
Why expensive energy instead of cheap energy?
Why so much collusion on the supply side of FF especially NG and so many millions if not billions of dollars in mind control propaganda on CC?

The stakes are huge and imminent for who…. the globe.. the planet or Gates et al….? No it’s the FF industry who prefer self-sabotaging energy solutions rather than cheap energy solutions in a free market or in a geographically partitioned free energy market in the US. If Putin can partition his energy market so can we.

Energy is totally politicized and colluded and the babble is so noisy and ridiculous we totally forgot the goal is cheap energy.

Want to win the presidency. .. Cry cheap energy! and the CC babble will get louder until it doesn’t have a bang for the buck and the deep pockets put there money somewhere else like China, Africa and central Asia. The WEF folks don’t want to develop those countries but if forced to they will because the imperative to keep growing.

Crash the colluded commodities market prices and America would be too busy having fun to tremble/zombie/self righteously-scroll their phones

All bets are off if LK-99 is the ambient SC holy grail.

Yes…. and what we need is an expert analysis about how it is in Putin’s best interest to push net zero and fund climate propaganda. Putin plays a complex game with multiple related goals. It would also provide insight into why other FF oligarchs and corporations are lobbying for state and fed carbon taxes, anti-off grid laws and Net Zero.

I have guesses but a truly great analysis would uncover the basic principles on a number of dimensions, (actual long term supply of FF in the world, forecasting emerging tech that would increase FF efficiency and deep demand reduction Algorithmic and classic collusion of FF markets,, geopolitical impacts on global and regional FF markets, leveraging material disparities globally that are deepening quickly, his over arching goal, (more money and power), weakening the mind of the West etc.

Yet it is in our DNA to be curious and self reflective and seek answers to questions like, how did my life get summed on up on this device consuming this crap? The other thing, is young people are desperately lonely and hungry for real friendship and fellowship.

Yet it remains to be seen if our kids will ever unhook themselves in the age of the Grand Hook Ya.

But, as others point out, he doesn’t need to spend big roubles on a project the West is already funding.

As to the general the-Russians-did-it, how do they manage to do it all with so little money, relatively speaking?

I am not an expert on the overt and covert financial support of anti-fossil fuel/CC propaganda. I am just an average dude to asks questions, seeks answers and observes.

We do know is there is a very complex grid of funding sources for propaganda. No one is even close to untangling it or what the global strategy is or even who the key operatives are. We have the field level operative political crapola but not the untouchable core insight. We can assume and guess but we only know a little. Thanks to posts like this in WUWT we know something. We do not know how much exactly or from who exactly.

And this is the point…. we cannot assume we know it’s just the greens who are funding it. If we do, then we blind ourselves to the truth of how the CC/anti-FF movement works and is funded, and to it’s primary, secondary, tertiary and tangent goals and the goals of those who are leveraging it.

We cannot assume we know by the message. The message has many purposes. This is especially true in a deep learning environment we have been in the past 7-8 years where deep solving for pattern and the global weaponization and covert–ization of information has been well underway….. and it’s psych-tech.

No one can give us the percentage of money coming from green believers and the non-green carpet baggers and scallywag’s.

Many of us would say it’s the green deep pockets who are paying the lion’s share for propaganda and the goal is the emergence of a global stakeholder form of socialistic fluid fascism and global depopulation

We can think and say this but it needs to be unraveled carefully.

I have serious doubts that the fossil fuel companies are primarily interested in trying to influence public opinion about the climate alarmist narrative rather than fulfilling their responsibilities to their shareholders and customers demanding their products. I believe that their are government regulations addressing those responsibilities to their shareholders.

Secondly MUN, for all the time and effort and $$$ expended by activists and others on the left demonizing the fossil fuels companies, they have all done what I would call an abysmal job of eliminating the demand for fossil fuel energy and the 6,000+ products made from crude oil. Their activism, their demonization of and hatred for the FF companies are all pointless if they all cannot eliminate the demand from the American people (and the world’s people for that matter) for FF energy and crude oil based products.

This blog has done a very good job of demonstrating why wind turbines, solar panels and electric vehicles are not the answer to the demand I speak of here. The activists and President [Let’s Go] Brandon are all clueless about the science and technological advancements required to eliminate the demand for FF’s. We all pay a price for that illiteracy.

In this ‘regulatory’ environment, it is necessary for fossil fuel companies to keep their heads down, lest their businesses be fatally impaired.

Obviously, it would be preferable if they, the auto and appliance manufacturers, etc. would stand against this nonsense, but it’s not going to happen until the people of the sovereign states understand their obligation to uphold and defend the Constitution and curtail the power of the Federal government.

TV shows and cinema (the former more than the latter) have been used since the 80’s to ‘nudge’ people’s behaviour – the Harvard Alcohol Project once asked the producers of Cheers, The Cosby Show and LA Law to insert storylines with the ‘designated driver’ idea into their regular broadcasts. The experiment was such a success that other messages have been pushed through TV shows and films since then – this is not a new concept, they’ve had a lot of experience doing this, the biggest drawback being that ‘climate change’ is a much more complicated idea to push so is likely to backfire horribly, one hopes!

Have we forgotten so soon the climate “armageddon” as documented in the Bible . . . you know, the one that references Noah and the animals in his ark and the assertion that pretty much all other humans and land life were wiped out over a period of either 370 or 371 days (calculations vary) from a world-wide flood?

I guess previous movies about that never gained much traction, so we need some newer versions of PREDICTED upcoming climate catastrophes.

I can only hope the movie advertisers and film critics correctly categorize such as “science fiction” as opposed to “documentary” so as to avoid the mistake that was made with Al Gore’s movie An Inconvenient Truth.

Yes, and like very many forecasts lacking a credible basis, it’s accuracy is sure to be demonstrated “shortly”.

A few examples of such:
— flying automobiles to commute to/from work
— controlled nuclear fusion to produce commercial scale energy
— cold fusion to produce commercial scale energy
— molten salt nuclear reactors to produce commercial scale energy
— the majority of consumers choosing to purchase EVs instead of ICE vehicles
— the ability of humans to “control weather”
— children won’t know what snow is.

Oh, well.

There are film production people whose only job is to procure product placement marketing to help finance the film. Maybe they can do the same with climate change advocacy. “Hey, WWF, would you pay $500K if our protagonist drove a car displaying your bumper stickers?”

February 28, 2024 7:22 am

Lets face it Hollywood is a great source of historical inaccuracy so doing the same to the future should be easy. Every single climate armageddon movie is a piece of a depressives nightmare. We used to laugh at billboard carriers with ‘we are doomed’ on them. Now we take the same ill informed nonsense so seriously we dont allow anybody to question it and equally gullible and stupid financiers are hell bent on telling us ‘we are doomed’ at every term.
Wouldnt it be refreshing for someone to investigate what actual temperature would be most beneficial to the world and also what level of CO2, as the only theme seems to be that they are both going up therefore it must be bad. Imagine if the converse was true and we were in a CO2 and temperature decline……then we would really be in trouble.
Now that scientists dont do science and those that do pretend that biology, for instance, gives them a good grounding in climate science, and worse still the majority of politicians who struggle with arithmetic let alone chemistry, meteorology or geology – all of which when applied call the ‘Science’ seriously into question – I see very little chance that there will be a sensible move away from net zero and back towards anthropological sustainability and energy surplus. Not in my lifetime, anyway, not unless things start moving consistently in the other direction!!

I am happy to see the elites and billionaire donors flush their wealth down the progressive propaganda drain. If Hollywood is stupid enough to tie their future to this nonsense then they will have to live with he consequences and become a once famous source of entertainment that eventually joined he unemployment roles along with their friends at Disney.

My wife and I have contributed over 10% of our income to our local church for decades, not because of some doctrinal demand of a “tithe” but we believe spreading the good news of Jesus Christ AND helping each grow into what that means is “worth it”. That’s our cause.
Some of the elites and billionaires have a “Cause” also that is not to our benefit.
My wife’s and my cause is to help those who by their own freedom of will choose Christ to grow up in Christ and what he’s done for us.
Our cause involves freedom to choose.
These elites and billionaire’s “Cause” does not.
Don’t believe me? Who is out to shut down “disinformation” in the guise of preserving free speech?

Curious . . . what did Jesus Christ have to say about climate change?

Therefore, I conclude He didn’t think climate change was anything significant for humans to worry about in the large scale scheme of things.

We should follow His teachings.

Some people will just never learn!

People go to the movies to be entertained, to escape from reality, their lives, for a short period of time. Movies that try to sell a “message” to their viewers always to do very poorly.

As do movies that go out of their way to insult the beliefs of large portions of the potential audience.
But they keep making them anyway.

To bad more movie producers don’t have the same opinion as Sam Goldwyn, I believe it was, who said years ago, “movies are for entertainment. Messages are for telegrams.”

I believe what he said was that “if you want to send a message, call Western Union”.

The China Syndrome (1979 movie) effectively stopped the construction of nuclear power plants in the US. They hope to repeat the scary success.

I’ve never been able to understand why so many people consider “China Syndrome” is considered an anti-nuclear movie.

At the end of the movie, the predicted earthquake happened, the predicted pipe broke, and the plant successfully scrammed, resulting zero injuries.

I commend to your attention Lloyd Billingsley‘s book “Hollywood Party: How Communism Seduced the American Film Industry in the 1930s and 1940s”. One of the main objectives of the CPUSA’s Hollywood chapter to was to insert pro-Communist views into most scripts especially for those movies which were not overtly political. They knew better than to make outright propaganda films, but sought to insert their talking points into innocuous fare.Seems the nuts have not fallen far from the tree.

From the average vibe I am hearing on the street about peoples BELIEF in climate prediction is taking a huge backseat to more pressing issues. I think this movie would do more harm than good on the street for the Elite spouting climate disinformation. The greens lost, there isn’t enough money or public interest for this boondoggle to survive another decade of waisted public funds.

And I doubt they will fund anything after the governments of the world start slashing the politically irrelevant pork barrels to balance the dismal outlook of national budgets. And major banking entities are pulling away from this carbon compliancy nonsense in their decisions about loan approvals, which should send a strong message to the elites, that they are on their own funding this from here on out.

Hollywood already sucks badly. The out of proportion gratuitous gender bender non sequiturs and stitched-in clmate alarm patches have already spoiled plot lines.

If the DaddyGreenBuck$ cabal are targeting Hollywood producers for a propaganda conduit, they’re backing a loser.

They need to shake down Netflix, Amazon Prime, Crave, etc etc who now all produce “originals” and give them top billing on their channels.

Here’s the clue – these days with advanced CGI, you don’t need those acres of Hollywood sound studios to put together 90 minutes of streaming video action.
(or should that be 90 minutes of steaming piles of crap?)

It’s getting to the point where you don’t need live actors either.

It won’t be long until all you need is a writer and somebody to write the musical score.
Even those may be taken over by computers before long.

What puzzles me is why so many ultra-wealthy individuals support the climate armageddon story. One assumes their wealth came from highly intelligent moves made by them or one of their ancestors. Would not highly intelligent people look into the issue, review the actual data and see that there is little there, other than that it is getting slowly warmer – No change in storms, droughts, floods etc, conclusions that even the IPCC agrees with. Are these individuals simply of ordinary and simple minds that have been astoundingly lucky?

One theory is that many, especially those in the 2nd and 3rd generations, feel guilty about having so much wealth.
To assuage this guilt, they commit large chunks changes in order to virtue signal to the world, about what good people they really are.

Hard to watch anything on the tube without at least a one-liner citing climate change being the cause of whatever bad happened.

Mother Nature Rules. To stretch a Billy Joel lyric, she’s gonna do what she pleases and life must adapt or perish. If the temperature rises, as it surely may, for some reason, wouldn’t it be a LOT less expensive and disruptive to develope more efficient air-conditioners and power grids?

Wouldn’t it make more sense to use the trillions saved and get out in front of the plate techtonics threat?

It used to be that science documentaries were safe, so long as you kept away from those that specifically dealt with weather or climate.
Nowadays, they find a way to slip in little comments in everything.
