Friday Funny: Cellist, ballet dancers perform by glacier in Davos to spark climate hope

A pair of ballet dancers performed in the snow to cello music in front of a Swiss glacier and a small crowd in Davos on Thursday (January 18) on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) to spark hope despite the climate crisis.

Some people just take themselves far too seriously. Let’s laugh for at them ok?

I thought all the glaciers melted by now? What? Send more money, still under study? I wonder if they have helicopter rides to see the melting glaciers at Davos.

Maybe but also blinkered to the point of myopic tunnel vision. They are so consumed by this one idea of AGW that they have no idea what the planet and society is actually like.

That Blond with the glasses, in other words an MM&M moron with a misguided mission, needs a real challenge in her life because right now she is living in a land of make believe, with man-made hobgoblins and she can’t cope. Maybe a real problem might shake her out of her delusions. The world is not coming to an end but her life eventually will and there will be real warming where her ilk are headed.

No Arctic Basecamp?
Just a group of self styled advisors on sustainability, no Arctic basecamps are involved.

I think she’d rather be crushed under an advancing glacier than admit she is dodo wrong.

Agree it’s funny, in a sad sort of way. WEF nuts.
But also shows how careful one must be with internet ‘reports’. Lived in Munich for almost 6 years. Have skied Davos in winter, and hiked its mountains in summer. There is NO glacier anywhere near Davos. Just lots of snow in winter that melts away by summer.
There are, of course, glaciers in Switzerland—but not near Davos. All Alpine glaciers are above the tree line and, as the image shows, Davos is below.

Don’t blame the cellist or the dancers. They are victims too (though at least they presumably were paid).

What gives me enormous hope, and not a little titter to myself, is that these assholes have consigned themselves to internet archives for as long as, presumably, man exists.

An endless source of comedy for our children and grandchildren as they look back into the archives of their parents/grandparents recorded history.

As we now (gently) mock our parents for their 1940’s/50’s/60’s dress sense and musical taste, the children of these people will mock them for not having half a wit to divide between them.

I’m fairly certain this trio are embarking on the quest to become the Jackson five three, or the Led Blancmange Zeppelin of the mid 21st Century.

Yes, I think there is going to be a lot of that. People in the future will say: “What were they thinking!?”.

This Era of Human-caused Climate Change hysteria won’t be held too highly. Unless we change the course of history and stop going down the destuctive path of CO2 reduction. There is still a chance that can happen with the proper leadership.

“We know that the Swiss glaciers have lost 10% of the glacier in a 2-year period.”

I have read numerous reports of glaciers that are retreating these days and started retreating way back in the 19 century (as the LIA was winding down). I believe some of the reports are from Tony Heller on YouTube.

So tell me lady, when did those Swiss glaciers you are worried about start retreating? Did you bother checking before you went into panic and anxiety mode? I could be wrong, but I will hazard a guess that they started retreating long before CO2 rise could have been to blame as we have seen elsewhere. Some retreating glaciers are uncovering ancient tree stumps with wood that has been carbon dated back to the MWP (and maybe before?).

If indeed I have a valid point here, I can only look at the lady in the video as yet another high priestess of the climate cult.

That reminded me of “Otzi”, the body exposed by a retreating glacier in a pass in the Alps.
Either he was exploring the surface of a glacier or, more likely, the pass was ice free back then.
And that’s why he was using it.

Good point Gunga. I forgot, was the body on the Swiss or Austrian side of the border? There was some controversy over that, wasn’t there? The body is in a museum now, isn’t It?

I wonder how climate watermelons 🍉🇨🇳♻️ would explain the ebbing and flowing of glaciers in spite of ever increasing CO2? Oh, I know – they never explain anything, we just have to obey what they say.

Will the cellist be happy when his cello is confiscated? Or will he get a dispensation for being an integral part of the WEF crowd?

Reply to  John Kelly

Why, the cello is ‘green’ according to their cultish beliefs so why would it be confiscated? It would be useful to burn for heat when natural gas are totally banned and the grid collapses, but there would be to great a chance of pollution from the burning flames so to avoid the potential deaths they would just rather freeze in the dark.

To be fair, they were playing on snow well below treeline. Not particularly intrepid. But it is a pity that the presence of snow did not sink in, so to speak. I looked up Gail Whiteman: she “is a Professor of Sustainability at the University of Exeter Business School”. That’s all I need to know.

These Davos WEF people apparently like to invoke ancient wandering spirits embedded in glaciers. Someone should help them get in touch with the spirits of the massive ~6,000,000 Cubic Miles of the past Laurentide Ice Sheet (glacier) that as late as 10,000 years ago covered all of what is now Canada and much of what is now northern America with mile plus thick ice. Without influence from mankind, it all melted on its own. This is known as precedent; i.e. a ginormous, massive glacier disappearing on its own. Questions: 1) Was it a bad thing the glacier melted? 2) Did mankind have anything to do with it’s melt? Ans Hints: 1) It’s hard to barbecue under a mile of ice in Chicago 2) The Flintstone’s and Rubble’s SUV was foot powered. I figure it took the energy of ~10,000 Hiroshima sized Atomic Bombs (each one 15 kilotons of TNT equivalent displacement) going off every day for several thousand years to melt the ~6,000,000 Cubic Miles of ice. Fred and Barney couldn’t possibly muster a bonfire that big and sustained. Precedence says that since the ~6M Cubic Mile Laurentide glacier melted on its own, that today’s wimpy glaciers can also melt on their own – even sublimate.because they are so tinny tiny compared to the Laurentide. Or maybe the Martha Stewarts out there are melting them in their cocktails. Glaciers come and go on their own – nothing new under the sun, eh?

This music/dance show, plus the brow-blow witch, display a collectively childish knowledge of artistry in Life.
We know, also, that their treatment of global economics is similarly about kindergarten level.
There is a theme in many of the WEF activities that “belief in ambition” is a greater and better act than physical work or as we used to say “delivering the goods”.

In modern Progressivism, it’s always up to someone else to make the sacrifices and do the real work. Also, answering the question of “What does one do with a 6-figure degree in “interpretive dance?”

“So I thought – I do find it very emotional – I thought we needed to perform hope. Hope is an action, and it’s something we need to do in small ways, micro ways, the little things we do that we don’t know they make a difference, but they make us feel good, we need to do it in big ways.”

No, “hope” is not an action. In fact, it’s practically the opposite. So doing “hope” in “micro ways” is doing nothing beyond stroking your ego and making you feel good. In big ways. But literally nothing of practical consequence.

But the one upside to rolling back civilization 200 years would be that people like this would be made to revert to their traditional roles in a pre-industrial society. Like having to do hard labor just to survive instead of engaging in calorie-free silliness like this.
