If you turned the news on this last week, you’d probably think parts of the Earth are literally on fire. The corporate media continues pushing the narrative that temperatures are the highest ever, but it’s simply not true.
For this week’s episode of Climate Change Roundtable, Steve Milloy, founder of JunkScience.com, joins the show to lend his talents shredding the alarmist media narrative. Steve joins host Anthony Watts and panelists Linnea Lueken and H. Sterling Burnett to highlight the media’s false predictions over the years, reveal data that destroys today’s narrative, and discuss particulate matter in the air. Environmentalists say that there is a serious threat to human health from particulate matter in the air — usually PM 2.5 — but is it really as big an issue as they claim?
Climate Change Roundtable is live every Friday at 12pm CT. Make sure to join the live broadcast and have your questions answered by the panelists of the show.

If they ever come for my pizza, that’s when I become a militant climate skeptic.
With regards to the suspended dust – I lived in Saudi Arabia and there were frequent dust storms called shamals. You literally can’t breathe outside without a cloth over your nose and mouth to filter out the dust (a useful purpose for the traditional Saudi headdress). I never even heard of anyone having asthma there. I was first exposed to asthma when I came to Canada. I would wager cold weather has a lot more to do with lung/breathing issues (and the propagation of the associated viruses and bacteria) than non-carcinogenic particulate matter.
Which brings us back to the key point – cold weather is a lot more dangerous to people than hot weather. We have enormous populations of people living wherever it is hot as long as there is water for livestock, drinking, and irrigation.
Agreed. I think it’s primarily cold weather and its attendant mold/mildew, dust mites (which don’t live in arid places as they prefer 75-80% humidity), and overuse of disinfectants.
Would you accept that hot weather can also be dangerous too, though? If so, better to avoid it if possible, or not?
No. Usually it’s other problems that are the issue, not the weather being hot. Dry, dusty conditions noted above require a mask or face covering; getting that into your lungs is not good.
So there’s no danger from hot weather other than dust?
That’s a relief.
Is this all just being made up?
Fake news?
Yes, there are many flat out lies and mal-information in your link.
Did you know that globally, cold deaths outnumber heat deaths by a factor of some 10 to 20 times!
Proven lies like
“June was the planet’s hottest month in human history,”
Which is of course absolute rubbish.
Even you must have learnt enough to know that !
Did you really swallow that festering heap of garbage propaganda? Are you really that gullible?
Nearly all the last 10,000 years has been warmer than now.
And of course, the temperature in the US , where this propaganda is from, are the same now as they were in 2005 (USCRN)..
… and a lot below what they were in the 1940’s according to unadjusted thermometer readings
“Would you accept that hot weather can also be dangerous too, though? If so, better to avoid it if possible, or not?”
Of course. People prefer temperatures from 20C-30C (I used to say 20-25 until I had a Venezuelan coworker who said Canada in the summer still feels cold to her). Once you get to 40+ it is dangerous if you don’t take proper precautions (staying in the shade, having sufficient water, etc.). Even 25C in the sun can lead to heatstroke if you stay out long enough, overexert yourself and don’t drink enough.
Temperatures regularly got into the mid to high 40s in the Rub Al Khali desert where I lived. No one talked about much it because the temperatures were nearly constant and unchanging (given there was hardly any chance of cloud cover let alone rain).
5C is cold enough to kill you if you aren’t wearing any warm clothing, and plenty cold enough to enhance the propagation of common viruses and bacteria like those causing respiratory illness.
The proof of the average person’s recognition of this is the population growth in warm areas vs cold. In a global economy where there is more freedom of movement people clearly show a preference for warmth despite climate change fearmongering.
Fair enough, but are we agreeing that temperatures over 30C in places they didn’t regularly occur before are causing issues?
Is that really “fearmongering” or just reality?
Sure. But are those temporary issues worse than the benefits to those in cold climates that are exposed to reduced cold?
Your body adjusting to heat happens over the course of 2-3 weeks. The problem is that people today spend all their time in air conditioning so their body doesn’t properly adjust to the heat. Either they need to ease up on the A/C or spend more time outside.
We evolved in East Africa for millions of years before living in colder climes for the last couple hundred thousand, and we can easily adapt to heat given enough time and exposure.
Adapting to freezing temperatures is something our bodies have a much more difficult time with. You need only look at the cold-related vs heat-related death statistics to confirm this. And remember – a far, far, smaller percentage of the world population lives in cold-affected areas compared those living in high heat.
If you scaled it by the number of people affected by heat vs cold, the difference would be far starker.
Yes, urban areas are warmer, because they have expanded.
More concrete, tar, air-conditioners glass…. they cause a LOT of warming.
What is your point?
Why are you continuing your mindless chicken-little routine ?
Cold weather is worse than hot weather, however hot weather can be bad for health.
Hot weather leads to more heart attacks and stroke than does cold weather, it was reported a few weeks back that a youngish Italian man suddenly collapsed and died from a heart attack in the hot weather.
Dehydration, particularly in the elderly is also a problem, particularly if they’re not very mobile and cannot get to the toilet very quickly, so they drink less to reduce the need to pass urine.
Heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
The other issue with heat is the associated humidity, which is less of a problem in Saudi Arabia than it is here in the U.K..
OMG !
.. go and live in a padded cell air-conditioned to a constant 15C (world average temperature)
Or stop your namby-pamby panicking and carrying-on. !
Linnea Lueken mentions the article in LA telling people they should accept blackout for the greater good.
FoxNews also had an article about that.
In comments someone asked something to the effect, “How am I going to charge my CA mandated EV?”
I suggested they buy a battery-power generator that would fit in their trunk. 😎
There ARE more forest fires – because climate zealots set them on purpose.
And your evidence for this is….?
The police in the affected areas keep arrest records – that and the trial records after the end of the arson season usually gives a bleak picture of activist stupidity. Normally it’s about a 50/50 mix of match-loving kooks and climate crazies.
And your evidence for that is…?
I enjoy these weekly presentations, but I’m disappointed how Linnea is always stepped on when she tries to speak. Especially Sterling Burnett who seems to filibuster the conversation whenever he can. Linnea should be allowed to speak more because she always has very interesting and intelligent things to share.
An article in the UK Daily Mail today (Sat 22 Jul). They just have no shame!
