Guest essay by Eric Worrall
h/t Breitbart; James Cameron, the film director who brought us Avatar and Titanic, is furious people have not “woken up” about climate change.
James Cameron on the Climate Crisis: ‘People Need to Wake the F–k Up’
By MATT DONNELLY
SEPTEMBER 10, 2019 6:00AM PTThis power couple has been championing environmentalist causes for decades. Suzy Amis Cameron has led a charge toward plant-based eating in efforts to reduce the dramatic carbon footprint that meat protein creates. James Cameron, the filmmaker behind classics such as “Titanic,” has woven climate-conscious themes into franchises like “Avatar.” He tells Variety the forthcoming three sequels will do the same.
The two are investors in the plant-based company Verdient Foods and contribute to numerous eco-causes, including Global Green and Oceana. Cameron does not mince words in sharing his thoughts on apathy about the climate crisis.
“People need to wake the f–k up,” the Oscar winner says. “We’re going the wrong direction as fast as possible. I like to say that we’re like Thelma and Louise. We’re driving straight toward the canyon at 90 miles per hour with the radio cranked up and the top down.”

The rest of the article is kind of a plug for James and his wife Suzy’s plant based food products.
Obviously I don’t agree with James Cameron’s dire climate pessimism, but as a fellow businessman I understand how frustrating it can be when people don’t rush to embrace your new product.
So here’s a thought Cameron; if you send me a sample of your Verdient Foods plant based food products, I’ll write a review for WUWT, and help you reach an audience beyond the vegan liberal climate worriers you currently appear to target.
Get woke, go broke. Sooner the the better, IMHO.
“People need to wake the f–k up,” the Oscar winner says.
Sorry Jimmy, I’m awake but I am not buying into WOKE. You Grifters are padding your off shore investment accounts by perpetrating this flim flam on the taxpaying citizen with a massive assist from the Public Schools systems and University safe zones. The saddest part is the hoax is funded by the Central Government using our money. And you are accepting it to amass obscene amounts of personal wealth.
Thank you. Now I don’t have to comment.
Wait . . .
..even the people that should be smart…are stupid
Precisely so Latitude. I learned many years ago that those who conceive of themselves as being “intelligent” or “Intellectuals” whether consciously or not, are the easiest to mislead or convince that they can be even more knowing if they but accept the latest extensions of the ideas that they already believe. As long as the new idea is labeled with the same verbiage that is presently reverberating in their private and social echo chamber, they will not only never question it, but actively defend in viciously.
Yes it is a symptom of fascism and brainwashing. Fixed in their beliefs in things that the realities of life deny them, they are the easiest to fool. History bears testimony to this fact in the untold numbers who defended their reasoning as to why they should comply with authority and march to their individual deaths.
But alas Latitude,.. you said it in more concise language. For that I thank you and beg your pardon for my drawn out life long account summarizing my hard-won lessons.
Well, Taleb is an acquired taste, but he does have something relevant to say about this.
He calls them “IYI”: Intellectual, Yet Idiot”.
In this case, most people in Hollywood can’t even be credited with that first part, as all they’ve done is won the genetic lottery and smoozed.
In my personal experience, if a taste has to be “acquired”, it wasn’t worth the effort.
I thought so too until I found some pretty good Cabernet Sauvigon…
I beg to differ. Today I am partial to black coffee, bourbon, and beer. Each involved a bit of a learning curve. I am glad I made the effort.
Cheers.
I’m with JoeShaw on all three!
The smarter you are, the better you are at lying to yourself.
Eric,
Food for thought…
The Camerons could always go with “product placement” in their movies.
The viewers’ suspension of disbelief would work in favor of vegan dialogue.
Vertical integration Hollywood style…
He produces flapdoodle for the mind and she produces flapdoodle for the stomach.
A friend of mine works in the investment sector.
Part of her job, and often not a pleasant one, is having to deal with the spouses of the rich and famous who have WAY too much time on their hands (you can only vacation and lunch so much), WAY too much money, yet feel the need to “create”.
If she’s lucky, its just a restaurant or clothing store that will have 15 minutes of (bought) fame then close in 6 months for a loss that will go on the spouses tax bill for a credit.
If not…its explaining to someone who cannot be told “no” that Dumb New Idea Of the Week is a bad investment.
Its too bad she’s too honest to take a bit for herself…
I was thinking, “This from the guy who rips off Ferngully and the Smurfs for his brilliant movie ideas???”
An ersatz Hexus or Gargamel would have been an improvement over the plot we got, “the-totally-not-US-army-wants-blueskin-alien-superoil”.
Love that olde world word “flapdoodle” !
Never much of a veggie person anyway but these clowns give me good reason to stick with my meat and potatoes diet.
I’d LOVE to come to James Cameron’s aide, except my favorite tavern just began a new marketing scheme of their own. It’s called Burger Tuesday, and the hook is that for the whole day every Tuesday, you can get a nice juicy burger and a side for $5. But in my defense, James, I ordered a salad for my side, so that ought to count for something. I also financially supported the dairy states by making mine a CHEESE BURGER, and John Kerry and his wife by adding Heinz Ketchup.
Ah, the invisible hand… it’s amazing.
Is there any industry that represents a more profligate emission of carbon than the entertainment industry and those who profit from it? I’d be more impressed if James Cameron was agitating for the shutdown of Hollywood instead of trying to make more money off of the crisis industrial complex.
BINGO! Massive hypocrisy, once again.
“Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.”
H. L. Menken
…but, their fickleness is another issue entirely.
Rocket scientist.
I have been a Mencken fan since 1972.
Do you have a reference for your quote?
Long ago I think Mencken’s biographer or the custodian of Hilo’s papers said, either the quote you wrote
Or the same quote with “taste” instead of intelligence
Could not be found in his writings.
I am 66 now and much of what I loved is
beginning to fade.
Thanks for the quote, I would appreciate any
Direction as to which of his works contain it.
I always thought this quote (with ‘taste’ as the alternative to ‘intelligence’) was attributable to P T Barnum, of Barnum & Bailley and Ringling Circus fame. Never heard it as a H L Mencken aphorism (although he had so many other worthy beauties).
I just googled “did h.l. Mencken write no one…
It brought up a nice article from Day In Quotes
Suggesting the quote you wrote was a paraphrase of what Mencken wrote.
I am sure you must know Hemingway wrote “too many
Young men get their likes and dislikes from
Mencken” or some such
I think that was in The Sun Also Rises
But maybe not.
For all it’s flaws Google is splendid as a memory
Adjunct. In the old days I had to pull out the books
And go searching.
Thanks again for the quote.
And thanks to Mr. Watts for a splendid website.
So, he is more pissed that his business isn’t going so well, and that’s why we need to wake the F up? If he was really angry about the environment, he wouldn’t have even mentioned his business. He is worth 800 million https://www.raphaelsaadiq.com/biography-wiki-age-height-net-worth/film-director-producer/james-cameron-2019-2020-2021-2022/ He can easily spend 500 million to regrow new forests, or for clean water projects… 300 million can’t be spent easily when you already have everything you need…
Yes – but that’s HIS money.
None of the prescriptions offered up by these socialists Alarmists would even BEGIN to bring emissions down to their ‘Zero Carbon” target levels. E.g. Air Travel isn’t
being BANNED. Air Travel would need to cease to reach their goals…or a VERY EXPENSIVE carbon neutral aviation fuel brought online (requiring dozens of GigaWatt nuclear plants to manufacture for the US alone)…and these nut jobs are blocking nuclear power (because they don’t want a technical fix…it has to be a Socialist fix).
Their propaganda doesn’t hold together in a cohesive story AT ALL:
Emissions + Weather Trends + Socialist Plans + Silence on Asian and African emissions + Human Extinction….DOESN’T ADD UP.
…and human activity doesn’t produce enough CO2 to change anything: only 3.4% of all CO2 emitted into the atmosphere. And, as far as the US goes, we only produce ~0.5% of the total CO2.
So, “Zero carbon”? Hogwash!
“…because they don’t want a technical fix…it has to be a Socialist fix…”
I have never heard it put that way before, but that really does capture their mindset.
May I suggest the Cameron burger? It has blue meat and iceberg lettuce.
Sacred cows make the best cheeseburgers!
Funny the lead omits Cameron’s The Terminator and puts up a couple out of extinction Rebellion’s psychedelic founder and promoter Gail Bradbrook’s hallucinations. Mick Jagger got on that bandwagon at the same Venice Film Festival.
And then to write a review for food?
Looks like a promo.
I forgot he did Terminator, that’s all…
People like Cameron and his Hollywood crowd really stink, don’t they.
Maybe James could offer just one sign of the impending apocalypse? Not just the claptrap you get by osmosis hanging around other Hollywood elitist d*ckwads?
If China were Zero Emissions, CO2 levels would cease to increase and their perceived problem would evaporate.
It’s all China’s fault!!!
Eric, I think if Cameron sends you something to try out you definitely should not eat it.
I’m serious. I like food, if it tastes nice I’ll write something positive about it. But sadly I don’t think he will take up my offer.
im amused that a few of the food advisorys have stepped up and said just because its “vegan” doesnt mean its good;-)
seems theres a fair bit of fatsn salts thrown in to many and the highly processed grains and Gmodded ones plus Gmod yeasts etc are a putoff to many vegans as well
our local store has cut the price to HALF and still couldnt sell their beyond burgers
(Id label them as BE-GONE burgers”
I wouldnt even buy them for chookfood
you KNOW its a dud idea when fat albert the goracle invests heavily
everything hes touched turned to crap fairly soon
he however will sellout just beforehand and profit as usual.
Hey OZ, when they make brocolli out of hamburger I’ll consider alternatives.
A turd that tastes like ice cream is still a turd.
Lab gunk that tastes like beef is still lab gunk. 😐
Humans need clean animal protein for their brain to function. Plant based protein results in dim wits. Their loss of IQ enables this sad outcome. Almost every person who lives beyond 100 years old eat red meat. Unless one has two stomachs, red meat is very important. Fake meat is loaded with toxins. Sold to college educated (mind controlled) Stupid Fools. These vegetable people, for the most part look sick to me. They need everyone to be as dumb as they are so we can live in FAKE harmony. God put animals on earth to be EATTEN. Hi fat diets, no sugar, lead to best quality of life.
Add a continuous and guaranteed source of fluoride salts to their drinking water to go along with their high-fluoride vegan diets and voila – cognitively defunct dimwits.
There actually is a hypothesis floating around that soy formula fed to infants potentially damages their brains due to higher manganese in soy. Manganese in excess is neurotoxic, e.g., Manganese poisoning, manganese madness, BSE, deer wasting disease, etc.
They’ve been feeding soy milk to deer?
Only those in the headlights.
From Psychology Today of all sources –
https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/diagnosis-diet/201903/the-brain-needs-animal-fat
Interesting article in spite of some hilarious bloopers. I am never sure what to make of psychologists. I like Jordan Peterson but many other psychologists seem better suited to low concentration departments like art history.
Fact Checking Big Al: “Humans need clean animal protein for their brain to function. Plant based protein results in dim wits.”
Wiki says James Cameron adopted a vegan diet in 2012.
Turning to IMDB… 2013 begins with Aliens “3”, followed by Terminator This and Terminator That, Bighead Terminator 2, Terminator 2 This and Terminator 2 That, Toruk (“inspired by Avatar”), Alita (female cyborg redux of Jason Bourne?), Avatar 2, Avatar 3, Avatar [i: i=4,5,…].
Yup, not much evidence of an original idea since he stopped eating meat, and appears to be stuck in an endless Avatar loop unless you count announcing another True Lies.
We have been speeding, er accelerating, towards a proverbial cliff for over 100 years now – don’t hold your breath for the drop.
If only people would read objective history rather than ideological diatribes, they might realize their actual place in the human timeline and learn to appreciate their privilege. They might learn that they simply need to adapt their culture and lifestyle to adjust for their more sedentary and digitally attached lives in order to save themselves from their self-induced despair.
James Cameron can frack off.
I wonder how big the climate footprint is of his movies? He has pobably produced more CO2 than thousands of people do in their lifetime.
Who is james cameron again? And why should I care what he says? Rhetorical questions…. Meh.
Love it when a Hollywood Elite gets their panties in a wad because the rest of the population gives them the middle finger. … Hey James …. we don’t want to buy your 5h1t …. try selling us something we’ll pay for …. like maybe another good movie.
From the article: “This power couple has been championing environmentalist causes for decades. Suzy Amis Cameron has led a charge toward plant-based eating in efforts to reduce the dramatic carbon footprint that meat protein creates.”
Cattle are carbon neutral. Activists should stop bothering the cows.
Is there any occupation with a larger carbon footprint than working in Hollywood? When one considers the energy usage to create a film, then the energy of all the folks driving to the theater, and the theater itself, and all the marketing materials, and all the plastic Chinese toys, etc.
Mr Cameron, stand up for the environment and quit Hollwood. Yeah, I know. Crickets from the lefty polluter.
All the while producing something that cannot be eaten, worn or sat in. Most not even worth looking at or listening to.
Why is it that those expressing the most vociferous opinions on climate are the ones absent of any qualifications to do so?? From the Wik article–
“Cameron grew up in Chippawa, Ontario, and attended Stamford Collegiate School in Niagara Falls, Ontario. His family moved to Brea, California in 1971, when Cameron was 17 years old.[22] He dropped out of Sonora High School, then attended Brea Olinda High School to further his secondary education.
Cameron enrolled at Fullerton College, a two-year community college, in 1973 to study physics. He switched to English, then dropped out before the start of the fall 1974 semester.”
So the drop-outs know it all. Seems he thinks that money makes you smart and your opinions worth more, enough to swear at anyone who doesn’t agree with you–even if you vie with that bag-of-hammers for being one of the dumbest creatures on earth. And once again–someone with one of the biggest carbon footprints of all humanity.
“Cameron divides his time between his home in California and his second home in New Zealand, a country he fell in love with when he was filming Avatar.”
I have a simple response to Cameron and his model/actress (5th, just to demonstrate wisdom of choices and dedication to relationships) wife–just STFU until you have some education and experience beyond the production of fantasy and foolish food. Someone who’s air miles alone would pay my entire lifestyle cost has no place swearing at me for not lowering my CO2 production according to their opinions of what I should be allowed.
(Sorry for all that, but this fool just beats even De Caprio for blatant hypocrisy.)
“Why is it that those expressing the most vociferous opinions on climate are the ones absent of any qualifications to do so??”
Yep.
Back when the worst thing in America was how dumb GW Bush was, someone created a list of his fiercest critics in the entertainment industry and how little education they have.
Even the “educated” ones didn’t have a very impressive post-secondary CV, once you stripped off the liberal arts and social sciences grads.
I’ll just leave this here:
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/sunday-reflection-repeal-the-hollywood-tax-cuts
(As I’m sure the Cameron’s have some sort of tax-dodging charity somewhere involved in thier $800 million portfolio, its a double-whammy…)
We in New Zealand are getting totally sick of the idiot and his stupid ideas about how we should be farming. If he didn’t have so much money there is no way his farm in the southern Wairarapa would have ever got off the ground.
‘Reckon he’ll jess keep farmin’ till she’s all spent’.
Whereabouts in the Wairarapa? I would guess Martinborough…real expensive property there. I used to live in Featherston. Lets hope it’s not a vineyard as he would have to hire helicopters to agitate still, frosty, air.
No. Down Ocean Beach way which makes it so insane trying to grow vegetables down there with the winds and salt air. With the money he has he might make it work to a degree but the average farmer has no chance
I’m reminded of “vanity publishing”, where you pay a publisher to print your book.
In this case, it’s vanity agriculture.
Ah. One more reason, as if I needed another, to not go to the movies.
People need to wake the frack up – about the climate scam, how much it’s costing them, and the danger it poses to democracy.
I should add–if Cameron thinks that humanity is like the ’66 Thunderbird accelerating towards the edge of the Grand Canyon–he should know, he’s the hood ornament.
Don’t we already have plant based food products? I just ate an orange. What does plant based actually mean? there is a base of plant products with other crap mixed in? Maybe this is where you add the insects.
closely watching “beyond meat” symbol BYND for short entry.
I suggest that Cameron do a new movie called The Scaminator, … about a huge blob that tries to take over the world by possessing people’s minds with false beliefs.
Listen, and understand. That scaminator is out there. It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead-brained into believing in human-caused climate catastrophe.
“I like to say that we’re like Thelma and Louise. We’re driving straight toward the canyon at 90 miles per hour with the radio cranked up and the top down.”
Maybe somebody should explain to Slippin’ Jimmy that “Thelma and Louise” was not a documentary, and is as fictional as CAGW.
The first Avatar movie stunk. I cant imagine the sequels will be any better.
Agree! The plot was childishly predictable.
The movie later made me wonder what it must be like down underneath the “mother” tree. I mean, for all those sleeping in the tree, there were no obvious bathroom facilities. So when nature calls what happens? Just let fly and let the “bombs” fall where they may? What a mess…
Probably all vegan poo though.
Well, when your product is based upon perpetrating a fraud, I’m afraid I can’t work up any sympathy that your business model has failed.
On a side-note, I love guys like Cameron who make their careers on hyper-violent movies like Rambo, Terminator, Aliens, and then get ‘socially conscious’ after they’ve made their own pot.
James Cameron’s biggest problem here seems to be that people have “Woken the F*ck Up”.
I take particular pleasure in sneering at the ‘great and the good’ as they have their hissy fits. Warms the cockles it does!
Eric, I doubt Cameron frequents this web site. Don’t hold your breath waiting for his products to arrive (although he’d like that as you wouldn’t be exhaling CO2 😉 )
Interesting approach to marketing your products, swear at and insult your potential buyers.
That’s the Democrat’s strategy for getting more votes. Seems not to be working.
When these shysters start padding their dire warnings with four-letter words, you know they are doing it to gain attention and prove how “woke” they are to everyone. Personally when I hear some alarmist spouting off cuss words, I shrug, change sites or switch the channel.
My only regret wrt people eating meat is that Chick-Fil-A is a privately owned company, and I can’t buy stock in it.
What is it with all these Canadians like James Cameron, David Suzuki, Neil Young, Pamela Anderson etc, and dozen’s of other similar folk who all want to preach at everyone while they are doing the exact opposite of what they are preaching about? Have they no shame?
“Have they no shame?”
No.
Shame is what we deplorables are supposed to have when we don’t immediately and enthusiastically repent of our carbon sins. 😐
Cameron is Cameroff.
Cockroach milk. It’s the way of the future.

Strangely enough, I found this link quite randomly by searching for Wagyu beef? Is the search logarithm being manipulated?
it is if youre using gurgle or edge chrome or suchlike
“People need to wake the f–k up,” the Oscar winner says. “We’re going the wrong direction as fast as possible. I like to say that we’re like Thelma and Louise. We’re driving straight toward the canyon at 90 miles per hour with the radio cranked up and the top down.”
I agree with James Cameron almost entirely. The only difference is that Mr Cameron believes the canyon is a climate change disaster brought on by the unwitting consequences of humans. I believe the canyon is a socialist dystopian future of great misery and poverty, brought on by the very deliberate machinations of a few.
James is a great story teller, and the story he is most fond of telling is some version of the Frankenstein Myth, or the story of how our creations will turn on us and try to kill us. It makes sense that someone so immersed in this myth might lose sight of the fact that it is NOT REAL! I find that the stories of actual human history are much more informative and frightening than cautionary fictions about make-believe monsters.
The known history of humanity is a story of individuals and small groups manipulating the majority into some form of servitude. That tendency began to diminish slowly with the Renaissance, but lately, there has been a very strong push against the principles that brought us enlightenment and individual freedom. There is a very strong desire for more control over the masses by a few individuals, warning of another version of Frankenstein’s monster; a man-made climate monster that is every bit as fictional as Mary Shelley’s creature.
Captured by the Frankenstein myth that was so deeply ingrained in Western Culture, how many of us will insist on turning the Ford Thunderbird around to avoid the imaginary climate monster, and drive straight into the canyon of socialist misery? I wonder if James Cameron will be surprised when he realizes that he helped dig the huge hell hole that all of us will be plunging into.
When you call out that the sky is falling, you need to be very sure that the sky is actually falling. When more rational people hear the incessant cries of “Wolf” without any wolf being seen and with abundant proof that the wolf is nowhere in sight, they wise up and place the warning down at the bottom of the priority list.
I wonder if he ever read Alan Dean Foster’s “Midworld”? ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midworld )
The idea of a planet that is alive and all life on it linked by plants, like “The One Tree Ring” … er … “Eywa” in “Avatar”, sure sounds like he did.
A documentary about what caused the Titanic to hit an iceberg and sink, would be very interesting and informative. Where the iceberg came from and why it was where it was, might have informed our knowledge. I have read several studies that give the reasons and the context.
But this Hollywood director used his imagination and produced a fictional tale to entertain us, so his professional business is fiction based, and like many in his profession he gets confused between fact and fiction.
Do you think he meant”Shut the fracking up!”?
Mr. Cameron, a well known and successful purveyor of fantasy, unsurprisingly wants us to buy more of it.
” You are not one of the people ” !!!!
The website for Verdient food just talks about plans and has a press release dated 2017. Are they actually producing anything?
Mr Cameron
I have not seen any of your movies
I have not purchased any of the food products you are pushing
I will NOT do do in future as I do not like you use is such language to potential clients
Go back to marketing school 1.01
Just for laughs ?

“May Have Been Inappropriate” ROTFLMAO
I watched a lot of movies, good and bad (mosty bad) but I’ve never seen and won’t ever watch Avatar and Titanic — because Titanic is a socialist tear-jerker particularly recommended by the Commuist Party of China, while Avatar is an eulogy to the betrayal of the human race (which seems to be a personal obsession and a favorite idea of foul-mouthed, flthy rich habitual liars and politically correct weathervanes, James Cameron and Stephen King). They hate and despise human beings — everything they produce is a rotten fruit of that comtempt.
Last press release on the Verdient website (how long and how much did it cost to come up with that name?) was September 2017.
2 years later there no products listed.
Hmmm.
Google shopping does not know of the product.
I now have an easy choice, never to watch any of his f*$king movies or buy any of their f*$king products.
There Jimmy boy, fixed it for ya!
I wonder how much energy and resources were consumed during his long search for the Titanic, y’know, the unsinkable ship that sunk after hitting ice in the mid Atlantic ocean?
How Déjà vu odd!
I use similar language everytime I see that avatar trash scheduled for multiple showings over day on TV.
Someone must be paying big bucks to show that trash repeatedly.
Stupidest movie I ever started to watch….lasted 15 minutes. : )
Wow.
Thanks James… I think…
Reading his little hissy fit I do have to wonder if James has actually seen Thelma and Louise. If I recall correctly the entire driving off the cliff scene was not about blind stupidity, but more a deliberate decision to die free rather than be dragged down by an unfair and uncaring system.
As for Titanic, did it occur to anyone that if they actually had some solid Global Warming back in 1912 then maybe some of those passengers wouldn’t have frozen to death.
Also, ‘plant based food’? Sorry, but I already engage in that via my local Fruit and Veg shop.
Still, if James really wants me to start doing something about reducing my ‘carbon footprint’ I guess I could stop watching movies…
If you really want to reduce your ‘carbon’ foot prints, just wipe your feet on the doormat, before you come in the house.
James Cameron need to shut the f**k up until he knows what he’s taking about.
I’m actually sequestering Carbon to the tune of 18% of my body weight or 66% CO2 equivalent! This would be true whether I ate a steak sandwich or a tofu burger every meal. Only thing is tofu imitates estogen in the body which transgenderizes white toxic males. It may even be part of the тоталiтагуаи plan!
Another Hollywood dumb-ass. Sigh. Why does this Bozo’s opinion even merit mentioning? His films while, yes, featuring “state-of-the-art” (at the time) computer generated graphics, were, at best, mediocre. I, and almost everyone else, don’t care at all what he thinks.
The proper newspeak is “People need to woke the f..k up” James.
The re-education police will be around shortly.
We all know what “Avatar” was about !!!
JPP
I’m awake James, have been for 63+ years. I think I’ll pass on your climate friendly products. As a matter of fact, think I’ll drive the wife’s SUV around the block a few times in your honor and spew some plant life saving CO2 into the atmosphere.
Last steak on my table was from a bovine animal.
Bovines eat plants, that makes them “plant based”
All life on Earth is based on photosynthesis of atmospheric CO2 into carbohydrates.
Will Cameron give up his 20,000 sq ft home and multi-acre “compound” in Malibu, to move into a 15×20 ft 1-room “efficiency studio” apartment located next door to a public bus station — so he can take the bus to work?
That’s how the self-loathing, eco-facists want the rest of us to live
