In committing national economic suicide and sending living standards back to 19th century
Paul Driessen
29-year old ex-bartender and freshman U.S. Representative (D-NY) Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez received thunderous environmentalist and media acclaim when she introduced her Green New Deal resolution in the House and Ed Markey (D-MA) submitted it in the Senate. It was quickly endorsed or cosponsored by scores of House and Senate Dems, including many who want to run against President Trump in 2020.
But within days the GND was subjected to rigorous analysis (and ridicule) by energy experts, President Trump, Republicans, conservative pundits and even some Democrats. Their disdain is well-founded.
Asserting yet again that “manmade climate change” poses an “existential threat” to people and planet – with only a dozen years before total disaster strikes – the Green New Deal demands that the United States convert to 100% “renewable” energy within ten years. It also proclaims an equally urgent need to abandon free enterprise capitalism in favor of 100% socialist economic and “social justice” policies.
In the energy arena, AOC’s GND requires that fossil fuels, nuclear power and even waste-to-energy and large-scale hydroelectric facilities be eliminated from the US energy mix. Coal, oil and natural gas leasing and development on federally controlled Western lands would be banned, as would exports of those fuels.
Internal combustion cars, trucks, buses, trains and boats would be replaced with electric versions, or eradicated. Airplanes would be replaced by high-speed rail. And every house and building in America would be gutted, rebuilt or retrofitted with “state of the art efficiency” technologies. That’s for starters.
The original “draft” resolution (since replaced on AOC’s website) even called for getting rid of “farting cows” – to prevent methane from increasing above its current minuscule 0.00017% of the atmosphere. So “bugs not beef” in our diets – and no more cheese, milk, yogurt or Baskin Robbins.
In the “social justice and fairness” arena, the Cortez-Markey GND provides that every American would get government-guaranteed jobs, with “family-sustaining” wages and pensions; free college or trade school; “healthy organic” food; “safe, affordable, adequate” and energy-efficient homes; and support for ethnic and economic “communities” that “historically” were harmed “first and most” by “dirty energy.”
Saturday Night Live could not have crafted a better parody of energy, economic and scientific reality.
But Ms. Cortez is determined to have her GND brought up for a vote in the House, where Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) worries about the spectacle that would ensue. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is equally determined to have a vote. Mr. Markey is outraged; he claims Republicans just want to sow discord within the Democratic party, portray Dems as favoring extremist policies and sabotage the plan.
Meanwhile, Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) threatened to call police on a reporter who was “harassing” him merely by asking for his views about the Green New Deal.
Ms. Cortez has no such qualms. When asked whether implementing her GND would require “massive government intervention,” she replied: “It does. Yeah. I have no problem saying that.” Moreover, she added, we shouldn’t point fingers and say China or India or Russia isn’t doing anything like this. We shouldn’t “hold ourselves to a lower bar.” We should “choose to lead” the world in this transition.
Lead the world in economic suicide, environmental degradation, plummeting living standards, shorter life spans and societal upheaval would be a more accurate description of her GND.
But at least Democrats and environmentalists have now made clear what they will do to America’s energy, economy, jobs, transportation, infrastructure and society if they regain control of the House, Senate, White House, Deep State and courts.
What they are not doing, discussing or even thinking about is how they intend to get achieve their energy-climate-socialist nirvana … how many trillions of dollars it would cost … how many millions of good jobs would be eliminated before their promised job-creation programs theoretically kick in … and exactly how they plan to deal with the enormous human and environmental impacts.
AOC says don’t worry about the price tag. Just tax the rich more and borrow trillions more. Whether the cost is $1 trillion per year or $40 to $100 trillion in total, that is an ignorant, cavalier response. Either way, she must provide the numbers, calculations and wherewithal – transparently and with full debate.
But on environmental matters, Ms. Cortez and her cosponsors have no clue what they are talking about.
America has over a century of coal, oil and natural gas that we should use. We have vast quantities of limestone, copper, iron, and rare earth and other strategic metals that would be essential for the wind turbines, solar panels, biofuel operations, massive backup battery arrays, and thousands of miles of new electricity transmission lines that their Green New Deal envisions. Is there a snowball’s chance in Hell that they would open highly mineralized Western and Alaskan lands for exploration and mining?
Their intransigence on those resources means giving up bonuses, rents, royalties, taxes and millions of high-paying jobs. Billions of dollars in revenues to government will be replaced by billions of dollars in subsidies from government. America won’t even be able to manufacture GND energy systems because we will not have either the reliable, affordable fuels to operate factories nor the necessary raw materials.
Meanwhile, the rest of the world will continue to use fossil fuels, emit greenhouse gases, surge ahead of us economically – and sell us trillions of dollars of Green New Deal energy systems. Those that come from China might even have grid-hacker-friendly portals built right into their motherboards.
Shuttering nuclear and hydro power plants – and converting our transportation and shipping systems from gasoline and diesel – would mean the USA will need twice as much electricity as it generates today. Closing waste-to-energy facilities would add to those demands – and to landfill requirements.
Energy journalist Ron Bailey estimates that the GND would require installing some 154,000 offshore wind turbines, 335,000 onshore wind turbines, 75 million residential photovoltaic systems, 2.75 million commercial solar systems, and 46,000 utility-scale solar facilities sprawling across millions of acres. My guess is that it would require a lot more than that – plus millions of Tesla-style battery arrays.
Manufacturing and installing all those units … and the transmission lines to connect them … would require removing hundreds of billions of tons of rock, to reach and extract tens of billions of tons of ores, to create billions of tons of metals, concrete and other materials. That would be expensive, fossil fuel-intensive and habitat destructive. If it is done overseas, as most of it is today, it would involve virtually no health, safety, environmental, human rights, child labor or fair-pay protections. That is not acceptable.
One would hope their commitment to environmental protection and “social justice” would make GND supporters stalwart advocates for reform. Amendments to the GND or stand-alone bills should require that that all future wind turbine, solar panel and battery components and raw materials be “responsibly sourced” under tough US standards addressing all these issues – or we don’t import them.
There’s more. Contrary to claims by GND advocates, electricity rates would likely skyrocket – to at least the 38¢ per kWh families and businesses are already paying in Germany and Denmark. That’s four times as much as Americans now pay in states where coal, gas, nuclear and hydro generate most of the electricity. Those rates are job killers for factories, hospitals, schools and businesses.
They also literally kill people, by making it hard for poor families and pensioners to afford adequate heat in wintertime. And just imagine countless stranded electric cars, trucks and buses clogging highways, especially during snow storms, as their batteries go dead … and hundreds of people die of exposure.
GND advocates seek a total, virtually totalitarian transformation of the US energy and transportation system, economy, buildings, industries, employment base, living standards and individual freedoms. They are using American citizens as guinea pigs in this grand experiment.
They need to tell us what resources will be required … how and where they will get them … how this scheme will work. That’s not likely to happen – because they don’t have a clue, and don’t care. They also can’t prove climate fluctuations and weather events are unprecedented and caused by fossil fuels.
So let’s have those House and Senate votes on the Green New Deal. Let’s see who stands where on this.

“Mr. Markey is outraged; he claims Republicans just want to sow discord within the Democratic party, portray Dems as favoring extremist policies and sabotage the plan.”
I love it, love it!
Run Markey up the flagpole!
Didn’t some Democrat once say “Never let the stupidity of your opponent go to waste” ?
There was another Democrat who did say “Never let a crisis go to waste.”
The Democrats are having a crisis, and waste is a bad thing.
Alexandria Occasionally Coherent
is, by far, the dumbest US Congressperson
in my lifetime, and I’m 65 years old.
She’s the gift that keeps on giving

She makes Trump sound like a genius.
But, if AOC’s goal was to destroy the US economy,
then she’s the smartest Congressperson

Richard, the GND is so childish it makes me wonder if there isn’t a conservative Cardinal Richelieu whispering in AOC’s ear. What is wrong with America? We seem to be in the midst of Children’s Crusades being led by the likes of AOC, David Hogg, and Milo Cress. I believe, these Children’s Crusades will end as badly as the original ones in the early-13th century. It is getting to the point where you will be able to count the number of mature adults in the Democratic Party on your fingers. I do remain hopeful that enough cool-heads remain in the Democratic Party to stop this irrational GND before it leads the USA to wrack and ruin.
Remembering his record I’d recommend another us of that flagpole on Markey……
Markey is so stupid…..he introduced it to the senate
Speaking of stupid….
When you get blasted by Cuomo, Blasio, and Machin, and Maloney, and Pelosi…on and on
…you really are stupid
+1000, Latitude!
At least they agree that walls don’t work. I’m no sure how efficient all these new buildings will be without walls.
Has he been rubbing shoulders with Hank Johnson?
Perhaps that would explain Rep Johnsons Guam Comments.
Perhaps Markey has been rubbing off on Dems.
Well at least Markey identifies it as extremist. He just doesnt want to have it recognized as such. The policy is impossible to make a reality, but the virtue signalling is what they want to showcase. The totes, both politicians and scientists do this with everything related to climate.
For example, they hate that sceptics continue to use CAGW instead of climate change saying this is just a way for sceptics to exaggerate and put down CC, and yet in the next breath tell us that we only have 12yrs to save the planet from catastrophic warming! Ever pliant Wiki some months ago had an article identifying CAGW as a sceptic ‘snarl’ at CC. Now this has been disappeared they have created an organization as a diversion: Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) with lots of articles! Good Lord, how dishonest and diabolical is that. The corruption of language is a must with soshulists.
“Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW)”
That’s funny! This just means we are winning! 🙂
Hi there to all
America you are in good company, British politics at the moment is just as ‘entraining’.
“Run Markey up the flagpole!”…..
…and see who salutes him?
There are extremists in the Democratic Party.
There are extremists in the Republican Party.
Duh!
Stop wasting so much time and energy responding to the latest stupid stunt by one of the new darlings of the media, who now happens to be a darling of the right wing because the right wingers think they can paint all Democrats with her extremist brush.
Of course, Democrats think they can paint all Republicans with the Donald Trump extremist brush too.
We’d all be far better off ignoring the ridiculous Tweeter-in-Chief as well as the new left wing bombthrower AOC.
The middle is always where all the real solutions to life reside. The wingnuts of both left and right don’t have solutions, they just have propaganda.
The problem is that the wingnuts run the Democrat party.
AND they control the message – and their agenda is one of almost unilateral destruction of western society.
“Of course, Democrats think they can paint all Republicans with the Donald Trump extremist brush too.”
Yeah, except Trump is not an extremist. That’s just the Leftwing narrative.
To the Left, every Republican is a racist and a divider, and that is especially so for Republicans who are leaders, and even more especially so for Republican leaders who are successful and make socialism look bad like Trump does and Reagan did.
Branding the Right as racist is standard procedure for the Left. It’s their main weapon because they don’t have to have any proof to make the charge, but they manage to demonize their political opponents anyway. it helps that they have the societal megaphone of the Leftwing Media to promote their hate.
The tables have turned on the Left with the election of Trump. We are going to keep them turned, if we can.
‘Branding the Right as racist is standard procedure for the Left.’
That’s one of those qualities that makes a person ‘okay to hate’.
Doesn’t have to be true – you just have to be branded.
Before Trump even announced, Huff-po (which is basically the modern Progressive voice) openly declared they were going to smear ANY opposing candidate as ‘racist’.
Your average leftists actually believes that socialism is middle of the road and that anything to the right of socialism is by definition extreme.
That’s how someone like Rhys can refere to the US as being Uber Capitalist.
‘Extreme Conservative’.
Kind of an oxymoron, don’t you think?
Duane,
The problem is that the “middle” moves around a lot and at the moment it is a bit far left for rational thinkers.
Cheers
Roger
http://www.thedemiseofchristchurch.com
Trump is President because US citizen voters that were sick of the slow creep of left-wing extremism came out of the woodwork to vote for him.
In previous elections they were only offered “Obama-lites” like Romney.
The middle is always where all the real solutions to life reside . . . left and right don’t have solutions, they just have propaganda.
You contradict yourself with your own propaganda.
The middle is where weak minded uncommitted “I-See-Your-Point-Now-I-Beg-You-To-See-Mine” mush mouth swaddle-trollops get heartily “committed” from all sides; up, down, top and bottom.
No thank you. I prefer to be a “giver” if it’s all the same to you.
Sit on the fence and you will get splinters in ya bum.
‘The Middle’ is simply a manipulation by the Left who by guilt tripping people into believing that a Fair Compromise(tm) is a sensible course of action. It is the idea that if no one can agree then a mixture will work.
Problem with this is a lot of the time it simply doesn’t work. If half the people in a room want ice cream and the other half want to eat turds then making turd ice cream is only going to please people who like eating turds (and probably also are lactose tolerant…). This is then usually doubled down on by converting this compromise to the new extreme (it is what you agreed to, ergo it is what you want, so it is now your bargaining position) and then forcing debate into a choice between eating turds and eating turd ice cream.
The ‘Middle’ is simply the starting point used to justify the word ‘extreme’ against anyone you disagree with.
The other problem with Duane’s argument is that the NGD is not just a ‘Stupid Stunt’. It is literally what these people believe. If I was to constantly go on about how I planned to come into your home and drink your beer you may think I am just talking bollocks, but you would be wise to make sure you never invite me inside as well, just in case I am being literal.
With the subject of Duane’s diversion, AOC, we should either take her as being literal, and ensure her destruction is called out and avoided, or take her as being a complete idiot, and ensure all the swing voters know this is the current public face of this party.
No free passes.
Or…. you can let her have her way. I am not American. Destroy your economy and then in 15 years I can come and holiday in the US for about $3 a day. Your choice.
The left love ‘compromise’ because it moves them closer to what they really want, and they can come back five years later demanding more. ‘Compromise’ is just the starting point for the next round of demands.
Conservatives’ have spent the last fifty years compromising away everything the left ever wanted. It’s only in the last few years that the majority on the right have realize that most ‘conservatives’ were just controlled opposition giving a pretense of trying to conserve through their perpetual ‘compronises’.
And this is what has terrified the left. The old ways no longer work; they thought they were fighting a war, but the right hadn’t even started fighting back.
Now they are. And the left don’t like it up ’em.
Our President Trump has just about doubled the GNP and has brought the unemployment rate as low as it has been in decades. He has cut regulations strangling our economy especially the “green regulations. With the lower taxes and regulations, companies are bringing jobs back to our Republic. He has reassured our east European allies that we haven’t abandoned them and kicked our NATO parasites into taking on their share of their own defense. He has taken action on Iran who is well on their way to a nuclear holocaust. He has taken a lot of action against Russia for their invasions of Georgia, the Crimean, and the Ukraine. Actually, Russia is collapsing from their own internal contradictions. They are so poor that they can’t even put their new tank design into production and their only aircraft carrier is so poorly maintained that it may not be able to save it. Also, Russia’s space program is in disarray because they can’t afford it and besides they no longer have the engineers and technicians to design, build and operate these complicated systems. The “junior league’ ISIS that overwhelmed Obama has been eliminated. For a man with no solutions, he has done a lot. Probably done more than any President since Reagan won the cold war. Really, I don’t give a damn about his tweets. Pathetic George W. refused to stand up to the Democrats. Romney, McCain, and the other Bush weren’t capable of winning against the Democrats much less standing up to them if any of them had won the Presidency. There is a Christian saying: God doesn’t choose the perfect man. He chooses the man perfect for the job.
Waiting in the Singapore airport I was talking to a Chinese who said to me “we are all born into a type” as an example he said 2 men talking at the bar were policemen, at his suggestion I went and asked, yep right!
Politicians are a type all over the world they are plus minus the same stupid, not knowing the difference between a hammer and a wrench,
The problems arrive when you get a “outsider” changing stupid! I will mention Singapore again as it is the worlds richest country with more millionaires per population that any other, it was”outsider ” President Lee who made this success story real
Go Donald Run the country like a business you need change in politics, time to make it pay !
Let’s keep all of this out in the open where it belongs. A summary of this Green Nude Eel program is that while it looks jus’ wunnafulla on paper, it is gobbledygook, bolstered by buzz words, advertising language, and paeans to the God of Ignorance. Or is that the Goddess of Ignorance? Not sure which just yet.
I can see an increase in the draft horse population, so that farmers who produce grain crops for consumption will be able to get almost as much done by sundown that they could do in a 3-week period prior to elimination of modern farming equipment and fertilizers.
I’m still puzzled by Babbleicious’s notion that no one buys or eats healthy food nowadays. My fridge, freezer and cupboards are stuffed with it. But I’m suspicious that she thinks only microwaved food is healthy, when in fact, it is worse than soyburgers and uses too much electricity.
On the other hand, if that person wants to pay for a new house for me with all the junk I don’t want, all of which is a drain on the electric grid, I’ll be more than happy to take it off her hands as long as she pays for it. Energy efficient? When we had a power outage in November that was due to an ice storm that affected 380,000 homes in my area alone, my house lost its temperature VERY slowly, dropping from 72F to 55F over a period of about 28 hours, maybe more. My little house is quite well-insulated and I could heat food by lighting my GAS stove with kitchen matches. It was unnerving, but no one really suffered A fireplace would have been nice, but maybe Miss Babblelicious could provide a Rumford fireplace in my replacement house. She is a very strange person.
Oh, yeah – when she starts the demolition programs, make sure that you know someone who can build an icebox for you, and that you have a copy of Hannah Glass’s classic 18th century book “The Art of Cookery” on hand, because it was written when there was no refrigeration. Glad I have a copy now.
We do lead the world, sweetheart. Now go make me a samwich and iron my laundry.(she is a college grad, should be able to figure out how to do those things.)
– You’d trust her with a knife (to cut the sandwich) and a hot iron (to iron the laundry)?
Especially after telling a militant marxist feminist to do things like THAT???
“You’re a braver man than I, Gunga Din!”
Hey, just trying to give her the chance to earn an honest living, since she failed as a bartender is now a grifter stealing tax dollars.
– Sadly, many greeeen weeenies will attest, there are FAR better livings to be made as tax-dollar-stealing grifters than by trying to do it honestly…
I suspect she’s noticed.
Sandwich.
Comes from Lord Sandwich, who did not like getting his fingers dirty with the traditional something-on-bread – so put another slice of bread on top.
R
No, in AOC’s ‘hood it is a samwich, As in Wayne Brady to Dave Chappelle. WB “Give me your samwich.” DC”Wwwhat?”. WB “I said give me your samwich!” DC “Dave meekly hands over his samwich”
Both wrong:
Sammich, comes from keeping up with the common parlance in actual usage.
We have gone from Samwich, to Sandwich, to Sammich.
If it’s edible material between two slices of bread it is correctly known as a Sandwich.
It might be pronounced differently as a colloquialism but there is no need to spell it incorrectly.
Having said that, the English language is the most inclusive on the planet and voraciously feeds on all others for ever more descriptive terms.
It’s even the first language of Scotland, so it must be blooming amazing!
I thought the first language of Scotland was Scotch.
“Sammich” came from Pogo, didn’t it?
Supposedly the origin of “sammich” is from a November 1998 Onion article about the life of an office worker written in stereotypical Ebonics. As it’s a dialect corruption of “sandwich” it’s possible it may have appeared independently elsewhere (such as in a comic strip like Pogo) as a means of indicating an accent or other character specific speech pattern. It has since become part of the “Make me a sandwich” meme when it’s deliberately spelled as “Make me a sammich”. It was officially recognized as a word by The Oxford English Dictionary May 2011.
Demonstrates the ignorance in AOC’s Hood then, doesn’t it.
The term is ‘Sandwich’ as ralfellis correctly states.
for origins see:
http://www.open-sandwich.co.uk/town_history/sandwich_origin.htm
The term is ‘Sandwich’ as ralfellis correctly states
That is certainly the *proper* term. But “sammich” is a recognized informal variant per the oxford English dictionary:
https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/us/sammich
if you drive from Dover to Ramsgate or Margate you pass trough Sandwich, a is a small town now couple of miles inland but during Roman Warm Period was a port on the English Channel, global sea rise, you know. 🙂
Roman emperor Claudius (one of the I Claudius series infamy, the uncle of Caligula) sailed into then (not any more) port of Sandwich with an elephant or two .

National suicide is up for a vote. Great.
I’ve come to the realization that suicide would solve all my problems…
… if I could just get the right people to try it.
thanks for that!
You could post a spew alert ahead of that, you know! Just out of kindness! I will remember it!
Among the renewable sources, only W&S output has been growing appreciably, adding 5 GW in each of the recent years. Assuming the same growth in the future, 465/5 yields 93 years. Not ten.
That’s electricity. As for energy overall, 3300/5 yields 660 years.
The electricity goal is not achievable, nor is it our national interest to meet it. Ever. The W&S industry already employs slightly more than either the gas or coal industry at about 250 000 jobs and growing. And here is the irony: We are growing energy sector where one employee accounts for 16 kW in contrast one employee’s 1600 kW in thermal plants. That means that where your monthly utility bill shows $1 for labor today, it would rose to $100 then. The poor among us would suffer the most.
Wow, and you wonder why people laugh and point at you all the time.
I’m wondering. Which part of jake’s comment has you “rolling on the floor pointing” exactly?
The whole thing, it is just too precious. Windmills and solar panels will power the world. Just typing it makes me laugh. Then the claim they employ more people than all other energy industries,,,,, Stop it!!!! I can’t catch my breath and the dogs are looking at me weird. Just too funny.
The whole thing, it is just too precious.
Ok. So you would disagree with this claim by Jake:
“The electricity goal is not achievable, nor is it our national interest to meet it. Ever.”
And this one:
“That means that where your monthly utility bill shows $1 for labor today, it would rose to $100 then. The poor among us would suffer the most.”
And then according to the article, “. . . the Green New Deal demands that the United States convert to 100% “renewable” energy within ten years.”
Jack claims the following with regard to the GND demand (emphasis added):
“. . . W&S output has been growing appreciably, adding 5 GW in each of the recent years. Assuming the same growth in the future, 465/5 yields 93 years. Not ten.
So if the above claim is laughable you’d have to argue that the AOC is correct and the GND is achievable in 10 years would you not?
Windmills and solar panels will power the world. Just typing it makes me laugh.
Didn’t catch that claim in jake’s comment. Can you point it out?
You are pointing out all the contradictory parts of the comment, that is making me laugh even more. As for cut&pasting it and re-posting? Nah, I will just bask in the entertainment value of the whole.
@2hotel9;
That’s what happens when you skim a post and get it totally wrong. Be a nice fellow and apologize to the man.
I still find the whole thing funny. This, “Among the renewable sources, only W&S output has been growing appreciably” is a real knee slapper since according to the true believers wind and solar are the only renewables and without government subsidies they would be back into the niche/gimmick category where they belong. As for its output growing wind and solar can’t even support themselves without coal, gas, hydro and nuke power. And “W&S industry already employs slightly more than either the gas or coal industry at about 250 000 jobs and growing” is a hoot. If this was meant as parody he succeeded. Congratulations.
You are pointing out all the contradictory parts of the comment, that is making me laugh even more.
Contradictory to what exactly? You mean this?
Windmills and solar panels will power the world.
I still don’t see that claim. Do point it out for me.
Or do you mean this?
Then the claim they employ more people than all other energy industries.
If so, well I haven’t a clue about employment figures, but it would appear you do. Since you seem to have done the research, would you mind passing it along so I can have a good laugh too?
I see absolutely nothing in jake’s post that can be construed as being in favor of renewable power.
Trolling.
To be ignored.
The whole thing, it is just too precious
I don’t think you’ve understood jake’s point. While he could have worded it better, he’s pointing out that the math doesn’t work out for the ideas behind the GND. You two are actually in agreement about the stupidity of the GND.
I still find the whole thing funny.
Then you must have the data to falsify the man’s claim(s), otherwise you’d just be pointing and laughing by faith and that would be simpleminded and puerile.
“Among the renewable sources, only W&S output has been growing appreciably” is a real knee slapper . . .
I don’t know whether that claim is true or not, but it’s clear you do. What’s your source for believing otherwise?
“W&S industry already employs slightly more than either the gas or coal industry at about 250 000 jobs and growing” is a hoot.
Here again, I’m not sure about this either, but you must have some hard evidence to believe otherwise? Again, what’s your source?
It was ‘you’ in passive voice, I guess. I hope.
Which part of jake’s comment has you “rolling on the floor pointing” exactly?
I still don’t see that claim. Do point it out for me where anyone claimed to be rolling on the floor?.
Do point it out for me where anyone claimed to be rolling on the floor?.
Odd question, didn’t you just quote me making the claim?
I quoted you supposedly quoting someone else of “rolling on the floor pointing” (hence the quote marks around the phrase) but I still don’t see where anyone other than you used the phrase “rolling on the floor pointing” certainly not the poster of whom you were asking the question.
She should add “Lemming” to her triad of names!!!
‘AOC’.
‘Adolf On Crack’
Now, now. Quit hacking on lemmings! They do not run off cliffs in herds. That is speciesist!!!!
Running off cliffs is what Greenbeaners and CAGWers and Ecohippies do… or will do, because they’re headed that way.
If AOC believes that leading by example is so important, then why doesn’t she and her supporters do just that? Why don’t they eschew use of all fossil fuels by converting their homes to all renewable sources, drive only EVs, give up meat and dairy products?
– As soon as they get the taxpayer to pay for it all, they’ll be at the head of the line… -_-
Because it’s always rules for thee but not for me with these leftist totalitarian elitists.
Yes, everyone is equal but some are more equal than others.
“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.”

Don’t forget about flying anywhere, must use rail and electric busses only.
Or wind powered boats (IE sail boats), those would be acceptable as well (as long as the sails aren’t made from petrochemicals, as that would be bad) 😉
I often wonder how many whales would be killed to provide lubricating oil for the wind mills and electric trains?
Corn oil perhaps
Corn oil goes rancid and turns into a gummy mess. That is why our ancestors used whale oil. If AOC would lead by example she would starve, because even if she went vegan fossil fuels are used to transport and produce the produce.
Tallow was used before whale oil. When petroleum (oil) and natural were “found” and refined, whale oil and the whaling industry went under.
The AOC school for Kids Who Can’t Read Good and Want to Do Other Stuff Good Too.
What is this, a Green New Deal for ants?!? It needs to be at least…3 times absurd-er. I have a vision…
rip
As far as I can see in the field of ACC/AGW policy the USA is leading the world by ignoring their own Agencies.
Ms Occasional-Cortex has p.o.’d so many people back in Queens and the BRONX with the AMAZON fiasco that she will not get reelected in 2020. The NGD calls for people to have a “family supporting wage.” Amazon was ready to provide 20,000 people with a “family in a new Audi Q5 wage.”
The problem for her constituents is that very few of those $150,000 jobs were ever going to filter down to them. Out of 505,000 over 25, only 85,000 have a college degree and only 50,000 have a professional degree. A total of 10,000 work in information technology.
That ignores the concept of multiplier effect. From Wikipedia: “For example, if a firm realises a new factory plant, it will employ construction workers and their suppliers as well as those who work in the plant. Indirectly, the new plant will stimulate employment in laundries, restaurants, and service industries in the urban environment.”
Supposedly having some education in economics, Occasional Cortex should be familiar with this concept. Maybe she was busy doing a dance video the day that was discussed.
The U.S. has gained something like 500,000 new manufacturing jobs since Trump took Office and it is estimated that for every manufacturing job created, seven adddional jobs are created in the community.
25,000 people taking ubers, or parking…jobs.
25,000 buying coffee and lunch every day.
Jobs.
Stopping for breakfast, or for dinner…jobs.
25,000 new homeowners of means…babysitters, daycare, tradespeople, shops and markets and stores…
Jobs.
Jobs jobs jobs from a new 3.75 billion dollars in wages per year flowing into a community.
Minimum. It may be as many as 40,000.
IN the actual HQ…how many menial tasks like cleaning, guards, maintenance on and one and on.
And then…the big one…how many other companies move in down the street because the most valuable company in the country just moved in with a HQ?
I will tell you…a lot of those jobs would be available to people who already live there, even if not a single one of the high tech jobs did so, which would be ridiculous to assume. People will train for jobs that exist.
The scale of the loss from AOCs idiocy is hard to even estimate, but it is huge.
She may be the most economically illiterate person with an economics degree to have ever been born on Earth.
If I’m not mistaken this comics …er… economics grad thinks that NY should simply give the $3 billion in tax credits offered to Amazon her voters.
(Kinda’ like using the Pentagon’s book keeping errors to pay for free medicare for all.)
“Modern dancer”, she may be, an economist, she is not.
I do not disagree with your analysis. The point I’m trying to get at is all the juicy jobs were going to go to people “not us” as far as her constituents were concerned. Their (and her) ignorance of the multiplier effect means that they will not see this as a loss for themselves come November of 2020. They’ve done themselves real harm, but they will never see that because their situation didn’t get any worse when Amazon went away; all the improvements were speculative, in the future.
A total of 30,000 votes were cast.
AOC was essentially selected by 15,897 voters. That’s how many voters actually cast a vote for her in the primary election, and it is common knowledge in that precinct that it is sooooo D that the winner of the Democratic primary will win the general election. And still, that’s all the people that could be bothered to come out and vote for her. Yeah, I call that overwhelming support. And the saddest thing is, she will be re-elected. Probably by even fewer people, but she will be re-elected. As mentioned already, the average voter in her precinct is poor, come the next election they will still be poor, so chasing off Amazon didn’t bother them one damn bit, they’ll still vote for her smarmy ass.
Welcome in the stupid world, dear fellow Americans ! The green ideology is devastating France with the same young leaders, such as AOC, who are in the government and parliament’s majority.
For us, “AOC” is funny. In french “Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée” (AOC) is the term which is defining the better wines. but american AOC seems to be a plonk !
Appellation Bronx Contrôlée, anyone?
Honestly, though, I get the feeling she’s the Beaujolais Nouveau of the Senate: highly anticipated, highly overrated.
rip
You’re right ! And “Appellation Bronx Contrôlée” is much more funny because, in french the expression “c’est le Bronx !” means “what a shambles !”
We are in the heart of the subject…
Oh, haha. I didn’t know that. Perfect!!!
Cheap wine sours quickly. So, yes, she is a plonk!
my wife just reminded my there is a tremendous amount of energy waiting to be had by harnessing toilet flushes above the fourth floor at most vacation resorts. power the world!
That’s a bunch of crap.
With all due respect to your wife I surely hope she isn’t pretending to earn a living in any technical fields such as engineering.
She might want to reacquaint herself with the 2nd law of Thermodynamics, and then learn the meaning of TANSTAFL.
Right…. how did the water make it all the way to the upper floors? Roof-top rain collection would be the only acceptable response.
umm. it was to be wasted anyways?
…so to speak. 🙂
Falling rain power!
It’s genius!
Make tall wide roofs, and hydro turbines on the downspouts for the rainwaters.
Put a collection tank on the roof and a tank on every other floor. Drain the water through a turbine between every tank. Harvest energy every other floor. Building powers all internal needs.
Don’t tell anyone that purchase, maintenance and replacement costs are greater than buying electricity from a coal powered plant.
SR
Simply put, the kinetic energy was created by fermenting grains which were grown and harvested using fossil fuels, several hundred/thousand miles away. The end result was then downloaded into a filtering/transport system which moved it up to the fourth floor. This transfer was provided by even more energy reliant mechanisms which caused the growth and sustained the filtering/transport mechanism itself.
It is left to the student to ascertain where in this chain of events (or even before) a lack of reliable energy could cause a complete failure of the system and hence the downfall of civilization as we know it.
So there.
First unicorn farts and now golden showers. Are unicorns required to provide the …uh… “golden”? 😎
But, alas, without the air travel “The Raw Green Deal” would prohibit, who would be there to “flush” from the 4th floor and above?
I come up with about 0.3 Watts per 4th floor toilet (potential). Maybe we just need taller buildings….
(final design and O & M is left for others.)
National Suicide IS up for a vote and we’re on the right side. This is really the gift that’s going to keep giving for a long time to come. We need to be collecting money for media on this as fast as possible. Keep AOC and the GND in the news front and center. Won’t help us win in NYC, LA, Portland, or Seattle but drives the narrative in Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
Turning down 25k jobs at 180k per year in NYC helps make it real.
The main one that killed the Amazon deal was actually a city councilman, and he did it by pushing unionization. Accusatory Occasional-Cortex was just the loudest mouth at the time it happened.
The mayor, too. He basically said it was non-negotiable. Amazon’s like, “CYA!” Union loving states just don’t get it.
looking into it that’s what you see. If Cuomo or de Blasio wanted to they could have out maneuvered him. The Unions made it an alter call. They had to fold.
The prison in Brooklyn, NY went a week without power earlier this year. Now there are cries that the inmates were subjected to bitter cold.
I’d like to see the proposal to make this prison run 100% on renewables. What are the chances we can get that done in the next ten years? What’s the estimated cost?
To meet the 10 year goal, has anyone done the man-hour requirements and skills availability?
Assuming we were awash with money, my WAG would be that we’d need twice or more than the current US labor force. And skills: many of those cheering for the GND from their cubicles would have to leave their cubicle farms and learn to be electricians, heavy equipment operators, and forestry workers (gotta clear the land for those solar and wind farms and rail beds).
“But, but, but… a lot of this could be automated or mechanized, H.R.” Oh, thanks for the reminder that we’ll be needing a large contingent of people to mind and maintain all the robots and machinery. I see grease under your fingernails in your future.
And I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that the people with the needed skills don’t exist yet, and thanks to our anti-education system we may not have enough that are capable of learning to read schematics, troubleshoot equipment problems, and design the automation and yet-to-be-invented machines necessary to achieve the ten year goal.
Oh, and since it’s government run, there will be paperwork. We’d probably need a good 10-20 million additional paper pushers just to keep the project running badly.
But since we don’t have the money, we can stop at stupid and not venture into stupid squared territory.
Clearing the land is easy. California has successfully cleared 1.8m acres in 2018.
Yeah, I looked into that based on your note and found the US clears about 10 million acres per year. So the GND is probably covered or nearly covered for clearing wind and solar plots. Not sure how much clearing high speed rail right-of-ways would add in labor requirements, but clear cutting the necessary portions of the US is doable.
I’ve been waiting decades for them to ‘stop at stupid’.
That actually seems to be the starting point.
There are a few answers to your question in the jake’s comment way above.
So, just for the wind and solar part, we’d need roughly 2.5 million workers to meet the 10 year goal… in 10 years.
Then there’s the labor for the rest of the GND, trains, cars, batteries, solar installation crews to hit all the houses in the US. And think of the material handling to get all the GND stuff where it needs to be.
I saw an estimate on tv this morning concerning the Green New Deal and estimated costs.
They had a study that claimed it would cost $1,900.00 per apartment for an apartment building to be retrofitted with LED bulbs!
This is the kind of outlandish proposals we are finding in the Green New Deal. Typically the costs are off the charts and completely unrealistic. Straight out of the Democrat playbook.
Yeah, let’s have public hearings in Congress about what the Green New Deal proposes to do to our lives and how much it is going to cost us.
Has there ever been a study as to what are the effects of building such things? Such as the loss of C02 uptake from the permanent vegetation loss in the area needed for solar energy panels to be placed? The C02 created to build all of it ? The heat island effect it would create? Etc..Etc..
All that has been taken into account, on this and many other renewable-energy projects over the past twenty years. The only justification ever needed so far, has always been ” – But it’s GREEEEEEEEEN!!!”
Yeah – here’s AOC’s American ‘leadership’.

The excuse given for this nonsense is AGW and the eminent destruction of the planet. So insn’t it reasonable to require some evidence of the problem and a definition of how we will know when we have accomplished the goal? To me the goal appears to have nothing to do with global temperature and requiring a definition of the problem should lead immediately to the abandonment of the proposed solution when the problem cannot be articulated along with evidence of the efficacy of the proposed solution.
AOC … Airhead of Congress ?
Leon,
+100!
You ‘win the internet’ today – Thanks for that!
AOC….The Terminator of traditional, machine-Party Dems.
Guaranteed NY living, professional incomes for all and other free stuff too. I smell a book deal coming.
All state, county, and municipal schools and colleges should be run on 100 “renewables” NOW! After all, this is where the idiocy is preached.
We really need a major overhaul of the school system since it seems that all the system produces is brain dead socialists. As an electrician all these GND acronyms are confusing. To me GND means ground. I think the stupidity of the green new deal keeps me from visualizing the acronym as valid.
I have never seen ground abbreviated GND in an electrical application.
It is always grd everyplace I see it.
It’s common in the US.
Same for me.
Fairly common on architectural drawings.
It’s also not uncommon in electronics schematics or on PC boards which can have some variations like AGND (analog ground), DGND (digital ground), SGND (signal ground).
The Gray New Deal is the quick fix apparent, which is appealing to numerous people. And as indoctrination, immigration reform, and planned parenthood take its toll, the American Republic will follow the fate of its predecessors.
GND reads like a recipe for 1 Venezuela a la carte.
