Once upon a time David Gerrold had an essay on his forum. Here it is:

You may have heard that Bullwinkle the Moose was found dead. And a
special prosecutor was appointed to investigate the mysterious
circumstances of the moose’s death.
Most people are aware of the fact that the moose was found crushed to
death by a 16-ton anvil dropped from a great height. And of course,
everybody was certain that the moose’s live-in companion (and isn’t that
an interesting euphemism?) a certain hyperactive flying squirrel, was
the most likely suspect. But further investigation revealed a number of
things. First, JPL did a computer simulation and determined that a
flying squirrel could not achieve airspeed while carrying a 16-ton
anvil, so that cleared Rocket J. Squirrel.
But the coroner reported that the expression on the moose’s face showed
absolutely no fear, so obviously the anvil hit him unexpectedly, or he
was completely trusting of the circumstances — which could implicate
Rocky after all. The expression on the moose’s face was the biggest
smile ever seen on a Toon.
Clutched in the moose’s baseball mitt — which he always wore when he
caught Rocky — was a tiny statue of the Buddha. The religious
significance of this is not immediately clear; neither is the eyewitness
report of a rabbi on a pogo stick rapidly leaving the scene.
So…if we summarize the clues in Bullwinkle’s death, what we have is:
wee Vishnu, a merry crushed moose, and a hoppy Jew near.

I have had such things happen to me, too. Some people who post on youtube are a bit, to be charitable (after all, it is Christmas Day), careless about how they describe their videos.
I’m glad the formal concert video attempt failed, however, for it created the opportunity which resulted in to finding something even better. Here, is such a lovely, very real, version of Ms. Willihagen, giving a concert in her hometown of Nijmegen, The Netherlands. It’s just like watching your own grandaughter or daughter….. or yourself, many years ago (being filmed by a very proud Dad or Mom). Her voice is exceptionally sweet, but, it is her good heart that makes it a sound which brings a smile to the faces of her audience, instead of just an admiring nod of approval and polite applause.

Hello again Janice. That was a great find. What a lovely voice that young girl has. “O Holy Night” has been one of my favourite pieces of music since I first heard it in the 1940s. My most cherished version of it is by one your great sopranos (by ‘your’ I mean American), Leontyne Price, recorded in the early 1960s and which I play on my turntable every Christmas Day without fail. Music is my life blood! I have a very catholic taste though – too broad for some 😉

The best I know is September 11 3 BC.
But his birth is celebrated on this day. (And, yes, due to a lot of pagan influence that crept into it and the “religious” part of all Christianity today.)
That God would send “the seed of the woman” to offer salvation to those who have, and continue, to slap Him in the face.
God’s plan was old by the time he was born. His birth was the beginning of its actual implementation.
The final fruits of Jesus’s, the Messiah’s, the Christ’s love, faithfulness and obedience will be seen at some time in the future.
The beginning of it is something to celebrate even if the date is wrong.

It is not without reason that good Father Dionysius Exiguus, despite his mysterious calculations having been accepted by the Church for dating, never made it to sainthood.
Close enough for government work, I guess. His BC/AD divide at least falls in the range of dates modern scholars have found. They’re bracketed around his date, plus or minus six years or so. Itinerant rural Galilean Essene preacher, Joshua, son of Joseph, might have enjoyed closer to 40 years on earth than the canonical 30.

Oh, and Arild? The reason that there is no sleigh or cart in that painting is because Frost was on his way to drop it off at his mother’s house when the poem came to him. After he unhitched his horse, leaving the sleigh in the barn, he quickly sat down at her kitchen table and scribbled down the gist of it before stuffing it into his pocket and hurrying back outside to canter up the snowy path through the woods, back the way he came. The artist was just passing by when Frost paused a second time…. 🙂 Amazingly, the artist and Frost never met, but, one day, searching for illustrations for a comment on a blog, a woman discovered the painting in a small, local, art dealer’s back room and, well….. 🙂
How did she know the artist actually saw Frost? Because the artist wrote a detailed description of the inspiration for the painting, location, time, everything, and it was pasted to the back of the canvas.

I hope Anthony allows me to point his readership to the fate of Erwin Vervaet, a forty-three year old former IT manager from my home country Belgium, who suffers from an extremely rare Multiple Sclerosis variant.
Erwin hails from Mechelen, roughly between Brussels and Antwerp. He got the diagnosis of his disease ten years ago. Until 2010, he could function more or less in an acceptable way. But since that year it’s unstoppably downhill. He’s confined to his wheelchair now, has troubles with bladder and eyes, and cannot bear heat.
His only hope to stop his particular form of MS is in this fairly new therapy, called HSCT, which stands for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. He’s desperate, since he’s getting worse day after day. He has therefore set himself a goal: collect the money via crowdfunding formula in a mere 60 days.
