Michael Mann seems to think only a strong green President with the will to override Congress with “bold” executive orders can save the world from catastrophe.

Yes—Donald Trump Is a Threat to the Planet

In just a matter of weeks, we will be confronted with a critical decision. It is not mere hyperbole to assert that we are facing a make-or-break election as far as climate change is concerned.

My co-author Tom Toles (the Pulitzer-winning editorial cartoonist for the Washington Post) and I put it this way in the concluding chapter of our new book, The Madhouse Effect: How Climate Change Denial Is Threatening Our Planet, Destroying Our Politics and Driving Us Crazy.

In the current presidential contest, we could not have a more stark choice before us, between a candidate who rejects the overwhelming evidence that climate change is happening and a candidate who embraces the role of a price on carbon and incentives for renewable energy.

If you care about the planet, the choice would seem clear.

In this next election, we need to decide whether we are going to build on the successes of the Obama administration — which has used a combination of bold executive actions and international diplomacy to achieve action on climate change even in the presence of intransigence, denial and outright hostility from congressional republicans—or whether we are going to retreat back into the energy-equivalent of the stone age, continuing to degrade our planet through the profligate burning of increasingly dangerous fossil carbon even as the rest of the world moves forward, embracing the renewable energy revolution destined to be the hallmark of the 21st century.

Leaving aside Mann’s overhyping of the importance of the US contribution to global greenhouse emissions, I find Mann’s apparent insistence that a strong president can pretty much ignore the will of Congress rather disturbing.

Is this really the true state of affairs in modern America?

Putting a green zealot in charge, with a mission to save the world, and the authority and will to “boldly” override the wishes of other branches of government – what could possibly go wrong?

Years ago the Kremlin made many efforts to infiltrate the Left, hoping to foment a Marxist revolution in Western countries. They gave this up because at the end of the day the Western Left were and are Establishment Liberals and ultimately grounded more or less in English Common Law principles. Meanwhile, true revolutionaries, initially in the form of the so called “Militia” and “Neo Nazi” movements, were brewing.
For a long while, such fringe elements were kept out of the tents of mainstream Western Rightist parties. More recently, with the vast economic dislocations wrought by globalization, and, the “browning” of demographics in most Western countries, amazingly, more of more of these fringe elements started to make there way into various tents under the guise of various Right Wing anti-globalist and nationalist factions. Now, even so called White Nationalists are tacitly admitted.
This has not escaped the notice of the Kremlin, as we now witness in the Kremlin’s embrace of the White Nationalist movements. In the current US election cycle the Kremlin has become en flagrante, openly supporting a US Presidential candidate, hoping to repeat what Stalin achieved during the 1930s in Germany.

Unconventional thinking – yet interesting and definitely not suited for the narrow-minded.

“They gave this up because at the end of the day the Western Left were and are Establishment Liberals and ultimately grounded more or less in English Common Law principles.”
Interesting alternate reality you live in there.
Today’s SJWs are the end result of a Soviet subversion scheme that’s been running on autopilot since the USSR collapsed. That’s why they’ve got bat-crap crazy, undermining US society to levels even the Soviets would have been scared of. Putin must be kicking himself for contributing to the creation of the monster he’s now facing during his time in the KGB.
As for ‘White Nationalists’, most are government stooges, and have been for decades. No-one with any brain takes them seriously.

The English socialist left that so admired the USSR in the 1950s, is alive and well and thriving under Jeremy Corbyn who has just stealthily taken over the Labour party. This may been a response to the Scotland’s takeover by the Bolshevics.

No President rules alone, the have an army of advisors. Some try push the image of Trump alone at his desk with a hand hovering over the button while screaming into the phone in his other hand, at the construction contractors about the progress of “the wall”.

I’d vote for Trump solely on the basis that Mann has chosen to be afraid of him. How much more evidence do you need. The oligarchy both Republican and Democratic fear loosing their power. How good is this? No one could possibly look objectively at the mess we are in and stick with the Sophists that have done such a miserable job. It does my heart good to watch them pull out all their dirty tricks in panic. So Dr. Mann political sophist you can give mee great pleasure by twisting on the product of your deception.

Well, if the US don’t like a statesman as president, then both candidates are equal.
The above is a typical comment that one should always expect from a leftist socialist …. or a socialist leftist, whatever.
Non Nomen apparently can’t think of anything about Hillary Clinton to brag about ….. so his/her only recourse is to try to “drag” Donald Trump down into the “cesspool” of political corruption & demagoguery alongside of Hillary C.
“Demagoguery is an appeal to people that plays on their emotions and prejudices rather than on their rational side.
Demagoguery is a manipulative approach — often associated with dictators and sleazy politicians — that appeals to the worst nature of people. ”
These utterances above show to me the disgusting stench of fanatism, complacent and appalling. Plus, of course, a good bad portion of argumentum ad hominem.

Another court jester has performed. History largely ignores these acts, unless they become noteworthy in bringing down royalty or other famous names. See Rasputin for example.

Mann deserves jail time.
Fraudster, huckster, charlatan, and all around lying progressive POS tax pig.
I would be seriously tempted to “drop the gloves” if I ever met the douche.
