Climate craziness of the week: climate scientist presented as a God, like Mao and Kim Il-sung?

This picture looks a lot like some murals we’ve seen in the past to deify “heros of some revolution”.  Compare the photos below.

Jo Nova writes:

A friend at Curtin University, Western Australia reports that a new mysterious and imposing mural appeared on the facade. It is as if passers-by can look through the bricks and see a Saint-of-Science himself working.

The words on the plaque (which must be something like 5m wide) read “Inside our walls Professor Richard Warrick is continuing the climate change research that led to a Nobel Peace Prize. “

Now compare that mural to some others seen through history:

Makes you wonder “what were they thinking?” at Curtin University?

Jo Nova has the story here.

After making the case that science is done by consensus, the next logical step was for climate scientists to use PR to mold consensus in their favor. The game now is not to do real science but to use biased computer models and political propaganda to shape public opinion. Then use that public opinion to justify more grant money. Everyone wins — except the tax payer and science of course.

I just posted the following at Jo’s site:
This looks fake. Can you confirm? Why break bricks, and in a haphazard manner? Then put a very formal rectangle for the sign? On the left edge of the sign, the brick pattern can be seen underneath.
——————————-
Thanks for pointing that out. I see can see what you have pointed to. Plus, I would seriously doubt that they would have left their brickwork unfinshed to such a level on an otherwise immaculate facing job.

Kum bai Ya!
All we need now is statue of Al on a Massage Table surrounded by women therapist underneath for an Altar. Or should that be the other way around? What did the Police Brief say? Can’t have burnt offerings though for obvious reasons.
They should also add some email pages floating down to the ground in memory of MANN and JONES.
Throw in some starving people due to Ethanol production and two crossed Wind Tower blades to boot.
Why? When they start to tear it down when Alarmists run in shame, we will stop it so as to have a Full monument to this stupid period in our science history.

Personally, I’ve never been that close to the wall of any university.
In fact, I’ve never set foot on a university campus.
Bet you can tell, eh ?

Sure, I’m a European citizen. I won a Nobel Peace Prize too (in 2012).

I’ve Googled – “Curtin University” mural Warrick – at about 2140 Z, but the only image of this mural that comes up is that on Jo Nova’s site. Not even WUWT.
Now, that doesn’t prove anything. WUWT plainly has the picture (above).
But – personal incredulity here – no other site?
Mind, I’m very glad to learn the [possibly non-Sainted] Perfesser got the old Nobel gong.
2007 – the Year of the Four [hundred?] Emperors, all winning that gong for their very own.

It could be a poster made to look like it was painted into the brick work. Not too hard for a good artist.

Oh, this is nothing compared to the creepy pics of Bill Gates with children up at Microsoft back when, as if to reassure us that the nasty anti human dogmas he and his father loved so well, were nothing bad at all, no Precious!

While it is your website and you can say what you want (and link the pieces you wish), this is not the kind of content I expect from your site.
Look, a mural depicting the value the university gets from investing in science.. espousing the award winning research and making an otherwise dull wall interesting.. butwait, this has some visual similarities to (insert dictator here) and that invalidates what exactly? The caption claim that it’s a picture of a Nobel scientist? That that particular scientist bears a resemblance to the picture? That the scientist and his community feel he is doing good work?
So all advertising featuring any celebrity bear resemblance to the propaganda posters you linked as well.. Should we field the opinion that all advertising is personality cult fodder and liken it to DAA DAA DAAAAAA pictures of Mao?
Of course not. We beat these guys by being better. More scientific. More transparent. Less motivated by opinion and knee jerk negative emotion to the other side of the argument. This piece and the comments I read are deficient on all counts and certainly not the reason I spend my internet minutes here.

This tawdry painted mural could well become the target of Lourdes-style pilgrimages by Warmistas, keen to worship at the feet of the idol of CAGW known as Baal…Head of gold, Chest of silver, Thighs of bronze, Legs of iron, Feet of clay.

Calm down, now. It’s not like they would be presenting every scientist as a god; only those that support the “Climate Change” cult. These are less and less with every day passing, so it’s not as bad as I thought. 😉

Alas, poor Warrick. Imagine having to pass this on his way to work every day. If they did it to me I would make them take it down.

To Pat Frank (Feb 20 9.23 AM, thanks for the Guardian Link on Hanson (18Jan2009):
“As a result of his fears about sea-level rise, Hansen said he had pressed both Britain’s Royal Society and the US National Academy of Sciences to carry out an urgent investigation of the state of the planet’s ice-caps. However, nothing had come of his proposals. The first task of Obama’s new climate office should therefore be to order such a probe “as a matter of urgency”, Hansen added.”
Don’t despair Hanson, the UNSW kindie school of Climatology sponsored “Ship of Fools” (incidentally including a Guardian photojournalist, who testily remarked on the lack of peanut banana milkshakes in the Antarctic) ) have recently done the research and found that the southern ice cap and the surrounding sea ice are doing well.

The university is named after John Curtin, Australian Labor PM in WW2. The building houses the John Curtin Library. It’s quite a handsome building. Using it as a billboard for boosting a newly-appointed professor is completely crass. Regardless of the merits or otherwise of his work.

When you tell a basic lie like you won a Nobel when in fact you no more right to it than a administrator that filed some documents for the IPCC. You have to wonder about the ‘quality’ of the work they are doing. Still some good news , his studies should demand their work is judge at the same ‘standard ‘ that way they can put any old rubbish in and get a pass , so more beer time for them.
Even now it sill amazes me just how very poor are the ‘standards ‘ of the professionals working in this area , that they cannot even met the requires of a undergraduate handing in a essay is hilarious and yet they cannot understand why people don’t just ‘take their word for it ‘

Buffoon he DID NOT win a Nobel, its what is called ‘a lie ‘ , now how does that bring value to the university?

February 20, 2014 4:49 pm

I think it is the truth as they understand it.
If that were my likeness on that wall, with that message, I would be too embarrassed to be seen anywhere near there.

Jimbo prays on February 20, 2014 at 10:51 am — LOL. Not only are you a first-class researcher, you are a fine creative writer. Thanks for that. I must have chuckled over, “…damned be thy name” a dozen times this afternoon.
@U. K. (U.S.) — re: 1:02pm — No, I couldn’t. Even if you had stepped onto campus so many times that you earned a doctorate, your posts might have been as irritatingly stupid as most of Mann’s remarks. Shrug — maybe his was pass/fail, who knows… . And, btw, your posts in no way raise a presumption that you have little formal education. I wish they were longer and more detailed at times… . Keep up the good work, UK!
@Andres Valencia — good point!
(And “Cheers!” to you! #(:)) — in gratitude for your being one of the only two people to kindly acknowledge my WUWT valentine, I’ll be trying to give you some affirmation, from time to time, too)
“Alas, poor Warrick”Chris Clark. LOL. Love it.

If you click on the picture and open it in a new window, then enlarge, it appears to be a mural painted over the bricks and lintels. Makes it look like the “bricks short of a full load” effect, but it’s not.
There was a fellow in Hayward, CA who used to do murals like this, and paintings of people either on the outside of buildings, or inside (as in the Butterick/Qume building). Sometimes it was really startling. Sort of like the more talented screevers (sidewalk artists)…
Alas, poor Warwick,
