While the most recent public polls on climate-change give a ho-hum response, Dr. Roy Spencer recently surmised that in the State of the Union Address tonight, President Obama will join the “everything is caused by global warming” club. He writes:
I predict that, despite the brutally cold weather in DC this Tuesday, Obama will preach on climate change in his State of the Union address. I predict he will even use the cold weather as evidence to support his case.
During his address it looks like there will be a wintry mix starting across the southern reaches of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, the Carolinas, and the Florida panhandle. I wouldn’t be surprised if he uses the event as evidence of human-caused climate change.
…
For those of us old enough to remember, similar events happened back in the epic cold winters of the 1970s. Many instances of snow falling in Florida in the 1800s surely weren’t due to humans. Believe it or not, more snow tends to go with colder weather, not warmer. Go figure.
Sounds plausible, rational, and factually based. Of course, the SOTU is all about politics, so we’ll have none of that.
In other related news, that National Journal Reports:
Public to Obama, Congress: Climate Action Is No Big Deal This Year
An NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finds that 27 percent believe that addressing climate change should be an “absolute priority” in 2014.
Forty-one percent put the topic in the “can be delayed until next year” bucket, according to the poll conducted January 22-25 and released Tuesday.
In contrast, 91 percent say job creation should be a top priority, reducing the deficit comes in at 74 percent, and 63 percent say ensuring all children have access to preschool should be in the “absolute priority for this year” category.
A separate Pew Research Center poll finds that 29 percent of respondents want global warming to be a “top priority” for Obama and Congress this year, while 31 percent call it an “important but lower priority.”

I won’t be able to listen to/watch the SOTU address, as I’m traveling today, so readers will have to dissect and post memorable quotes here for discussion.
I have just made a shot “special” shot glass for the occasion and have a bit of scotch and a real miniature iceberg floating in it. It will be consumed and re-filled every time POTUS says “clean energy”, “renewable energy” or ‘climate change”.
That said, I plan on getting a bit tipsy during the SOTU. I would challenge those who are supporters of this AGW scam to take me up on this challenge. You drink with the words ‘I’ or Me”.
See you in the morning,
I was going to watch the SOTU tonite but something more important came up. Watching paint dry.
“… what freaky climate claims will POTUS make tonight?”
The president will tell us that only strong and decisive action by the central governent of the state can save us from the ravages of CO2 and the greedy actions of the evil businessmen of the nation. He will tell us that his tryranical actions are for our own good and that we should thank him for enslaving and impoverishing us.
Either that or he will tell us that the beatings will continue until moral improves.
Sort of reminiscent of King Canute. The King bit it very appropriate now that Himself has discovered that he has a PEN and will use it to decree his whims and follies.
As a Brit I read SOTU POTUS as some sort of drunken marine cephalopod… but as this is the internet I still have an opinion.
Obama will give a single slight reference to the climate as a marker.
But then he will duck the issue for fear of ridicule from those who would forever remember that very cold day as “The President’s Darn Cold”.

I won’t be able to listen to/watch the SOTU address because I have an aversion to vomiting.
I doubt he will be able to resist a little jab at the skeptics. This cold snap, has to burn the ego.
It will be something like: “Climate armageddon is too important, to wait for Congress to act, so the EPA will enforce “carbon-pollution” regulations, to safeguard the world for future generations.”
@ur momisugly louis
He will make a comment against Keystone
His billionaire supporter is paying for an anti-Keystone comercial tonight to fight its approval
They would rather have Saudi conflict oil than our maple syrup variety
They would rather have towns burndown in train derailments than it running it in new (as opposed to old) pipelines
I’m wondering if there will be a reprise

At this time only four US states have temperatures above freezing. California, Nevada, Arizona and Hawaii
However:
Taos, New Mexico will go down to 14° F tonight
Window Rock, Arizona will go down to 24° F (-4° C) tonight
Lake City, California will go down to 38° F tonight and 31° F tomorrow
So yes it is a great time to tell folks in the USA all about Global Warming.
He will connect the deep freeze currently going on in the US with Climate Change(tm).
Also, in spite of his $6M net worth, he will demonize the wealthy, the 1%, and claim the gap between rich and poor is widening.

Go grief, I remember that storm I was living between Buffalo and Rochester NY at the time.
(We have light snow now with 5 inches forecast. We normally get snow ~ once every five years)
Re Obama: remember it is more important to look sincere, as opposed to actually being sincere.
That’s how you can look straight faced while saying, “Today’s cold is proof of global warming,”
Hmmm … Obooboo’s gonna talk a lot … I’m sure I can find something that’s even more intelligent on the ‘net … maybe tune in the Cartoon Network … meanwhile, all those Wash., DC clowns will go on imagining that they’re running things and taking care of all their peons … arrogant little twits …
1-3/4 inches of White “Global Warming” Shuts Down Atlanta’s Hartsfield Airport
The (light) snow around Atlanta started about 11:00 AM, schools were shutdown at 1:00, but nobody down can drive in anything white. People are taking 3-4 hours to get from downtown to even the expressway around Atlanta I-285.
One baby was delivered on the side of Loop 285 – parents couldn’t get to the hospital.
Atlanta’s Hartsfield Airport had a “ground stop” from about 15:00 (3:00 pm) to 17:30. It’s now just lifted, but the planes aren’t taking off yet. That will plug all arriving flights for many more hours.
Very large number of school buses are still on the road – Still stuck at the bottom of hills they can’t get up, or blocked at intersections because the rest of the traffic can’t get through the same plugged intersections. They may stop at other schools and stay overnight.
Where is the “White Witch” when we need her? A single wave of the wand, that’s all we need. Azlan could just stay on vacation for…what, 2 more years?
“Despite the warmest temperatures on record and the increased severity of weather events, I will continue the time honored tradition of jetting off to Hawaii every 3 weeks on Air Force One to add to my record number of rounds of golf. My predecessor, who is to blame for the horrible economy the past 6 years, only played 29 rounds but stopped because of the Iraq war. I have no such compunction. Record number of food stamp recipients will not stop me. Spying on allies will not stop me. Benghazi will not stop me. Global warming will not stop me. You elected me, now enjoy my radical marxist agenda. And if you open your mouth, I will send the IRS after you, your family and your company.”

29 Jan: Bloomberg: Dean Scott: Obama Urged to Act Alone on Climate If Congress Unwilling to Pass Legislation
The president should “reaffirm his commitment to the aggressive timetable and agenda he laid out a year ago, especially with regard to regulating greenhouse gas emissions from existing power plants,” according to Ned Helme, president of the Center for Clean Air Policy…
Dan Weiss, a senior fellow on energy and environment for the Center for American Progress, said he expects Obama to use his address to Congress to point to his administration’s progress in setting greenhouse gas limits for cars and light trucks, the ongoing boom in natural gas that has helped curtail U.S. emissions and improved energy efficiency.
“Then I expect he would talk briefly about implementing his climate action plan” Weiss told Bloomberg BNA, adding that Obama may remind Congress that he launched the array of executive branch actions only after Congress failed to heed his call for action in his February 2013 State of the Union address…
While there is little hope of congressional action on climate change in the near-term, “President Obama still has the bully pulpit,” Angela Anderson, the Union of Concerned Scientists’ climate and energy program director, wrote in a Jan. 24 blog post. “He has only just begun using it in earnest to mobilize the nation on climate change, but it is beginning to work,” she wrote, noting that there are only a few moments a year, including his address to Congress, “when the president can traditionally command our attention when it comes to important issues.”
“Taking climate seriously—and talking about it publicly—can go a long way toward helping the nation understand the facts and the risks that come with a warming world,” Anderson wrote.

I wont be watching [no need to] but it would be funny if he did a “Blazing Saddles” and exclaim to all, “Excuse me while I whoop dis out.” And lay a bong on the lectern. 😀
Don’t forget O is just a puppet. They can take him out whenever they want. Why do you think he has so many armed men around him? He doesn’t have a chance and he knows that. That’s why he is sweating so much. One wrong word and he is history.
Oh, Ohhhhhh! Big O! He’s going to announce he’s signing an Ex-O mandating a Minimum wage of $10.50 for all “gummit” (sorry J.C., but he reminds me so much…of you!) contractors.
Then, they are going to spend a MILLION dollars, trying to find a “gummit contractor” paid less than that.

The problem is the lack of training in driving in snow. The lack of snow tires or chains (I have chains for my truck even though I am in mid NC) and the lack of any sanding/salting equipment.
Here in NC we get a lot of D@ur momisuglymn Yankees from up north who hit the road in this weather and end up upside down in the medium strip.
The worst is when the snow turns to ice and then you get another layer of snow on top. The Blizzard of 77 was like that in the Rochester NY area. I slide through the stop sign at the end of the street on to the main highway every day for a week or more no matter how I inched up to the stop sign. Scared me to death!
Waist deep in the Big Muddy
