BREAKING: James Hansen to leave NASA to be full time activist

james hansen arrested

I checked first, thinking this was some April Fools joke, it appears legit. (h/t to Tom Nelson and Skiphil)

Climate Alarmist Jim Hansen leaving NASA on Wed. to devote himself to legal and political activism:

Hansen retiring from NASA to press legal and activist efforts

At the same time, retirement will allow Dr. Hansen to press his cause in court. He plans to take a more active role in lawsuits challenging the federal and state governments over their failure to limit emissions, for instance, as well as in fighting the development in Canada of a particularly dirty form of oil extracted from tar sands.

“As a government employee, you can’t testify against the government,” he said in an interview.

In the interview and in subsequent e-mails, Dr. Hansen made it clear that his new independence would allow him to take steps he could not have taken as a government employee. He plans to lobby European leaders — who are among the most concerned about climate change — to impose a tax on oil derived from tar sands. Its extraction results in greater greenhouse emissions than conventional oil.

Dr. Hansen says he senses the beginnings of a mass movement on climate change, led by young people. Once he finishes his final papers as a NASA employee, he intends to give it his full support.

“At my age,” he said, “I am not worried about having an arrest record.”

Yea! Hanson has jumped the Shark!
He can’t use NASA now to push his Propaganda!
James and Al make the perfect couple.

“Dr. Hansen says he senses the beginnings of a mass movement…”
For his sake, at 72, I hope it doesnt happen while he’s chained to a fence.

What about China? When is he going to go and campaign for China to reduce its emissions?

Three cheers for Hansen – his departure will be a massive boost to restore NASA to credible sound climate science.

‘Klench Mychiques on April 1, 2013 at 3:41 pm
Say what you like about him, but it’s clear he’s willing to stand up for what he believes in.’
Ok, I’ve tried, I’ve tried, and I’ve tried. But I’ve failed. I did not want to comment on the foregoing statement. I really didn’t. I once wrote in a previous comment: ‘I will admit that it took far longer than it should have for me to realize that reasoned discourse with psychopaths was generally impossible.’ Well, dammit, I guess I haven’t learned it after all.
(Please note that the large number of self-referencing I’s in the foregoing statement does not mean that I’m trying to emulate Obama.)

Hallelujah! I can’t wait for him to make into the witness stand. I can only hope I will be helping the other side when that happens.

So now he can be what we already knew he was and he can do what he has always done without the governmental imprimatur.

Gavin Schmidt: Hansen disappoints.
Hey, where is that letter from some of the delusional NASA moon landers who happen to also ‘deny’ CAGW / AGW?

This has to be an April Fool’s joke. If they say so tomorrow, I’ll give it another sniff, but right now, I think I’ll pass…

I’m sure the Goracle will be happy to have him move in and assume the mantle of Most High and Celebrated Warm-Monger. Now his Excellency the Goracle will be able to luxuriate in alarmingly warm baths while the MHCWM Hansen flies around the world in his trademark clerical hat, to bear personal witness and bestow the Goracle’s blessing upon the every small gathering of dedicated followers, moonbats, and sycophants. The MHCWM Hansen will freely declaim on the evils of the Demons Coal and Oil, and the sins of the vile heretic Denialists. I expect that his pension from a grateful (if perhaps relieved) NASA will pay his rent and tithes to the Goracle.

Certainly he will forgo his retirements benefits I protest of his having been muzzled.

I think Dr. Hansen would be pleased to be called, like Paul Revere, an “alarmist”. JP

Good luck Hansen. (I’m done with this disgraceful nut for today, I’m going to bed and hope tomorrow is a very hot day).

Dr. Hansen made it clear that his new independence would allow him to take steps he could not have taken as a government employee. He plans to lobby European leaders —

Dr. Hansen says he senses the beginnings of a mass movement on climate change, led by young people.

All this in the face of no global warming in 16 plus years. What a nut. Good riddance.

This is good news, and bad news; and awful news and really horrible news.
First the good news. Hanson will no longer be a part of NASA. Not that NASA isn’t a shrinking, dying agency, given the realities of budget deficits and lack of long-term vision by the American electorate. But at least he’s out.
The bad news: he’ll be louder and more insufferable than ever.
The awful news: he’ll cost our government even more money with onerous, burdensome lawsuits by the greenie fascists.
The really horrible news: we (the long suffering taxpayers of the USA) will have to pay this man a very generous pension for the rest of his life.

Now his ethical and professional behavior can be torn apart in court… Mr. Hansen, how many times have you been arrested? I can see that question making his professional background useless…

Ha! How many people who work in the government sector, could be such an “out in left field” activist and still keep a job for so long?
Just goes to show ya, when the data gives up the truth, the actors move on!
Don’t let the doorknob hit ya in the A$$ on the way out >

Apologies, for posting the wrong video. This is the intended one.

So, Steven Mosher’s hero is clearly more activist than scientist. Who knew?

Hopefully this on works. LOL~ If not, just delete me entirely 🙂

Hansen will quickly discover that the office is bigger than the man.
James Hansen, head of a NASA institute, is someone who can get powerful audiences to listen.
Mr Jimmy, a shambling old buffer in a crumpled hat, will find it very hard to get any traction.

April 1, 2013 6:00 pm

If he thinks he will be able to stir people up he will be disappointed. If he is telling the truth that is!

NooooOOOOO! Who’s going to continue wrecking the historical record?
Jeez, the next thing you know, man made global warming won’t even be made in New York anymore. Well, if Jim has to go, I suppose a guy Pennsylvania would suffice. I hear LLNL has some real good liars. Massachusetts? I suppose there are options there too. Wait, we could outsource to Australia! You’d get some really cool studies without any data at all! Well, that should make it MUCH more difficult to refute. So I guess there is hope.
Maybe I worry too much.
