There’s been a lot of spoof/satire images poked at the Heartland Billboard. For example these being run by Michael Tobis, who desperately needs traffic: http://planet3.org/2012/05/04/the-correct-response-to-heartlands-disgusting-billboards/
…here’s the kind of billboard I would have run.
I welcome reader submissions, just post them to an image drop like tinypic or imageshack and leave the URL in comments, and I’ll add appropriate candidates to the main thread. Be careful of the site rules, and don’t assume I’ll carry every one.
Think like Josh and keep it clean and on-topic.
For those who have no idea what this means, read this.
h/t to WUWT reader TerryMN for the idea.
UPDATE 1: Steve McIntyre offers his submission in comments, not quite a billboard, but we’ll take it for sheer hilarity value.

To the Al Gore idea, put above his head, “Going Green”.
(wish I knew how to make and post these things.8-(
Can I add my own Friday funny. Up here in central British Columbia in Prince George we have been noticed for having the most potholed infested roads in BC. This is a result of snow melt water/rain and early spring freeze and thaw breaking up the pavement. Well the last few years it has gone from bad to worse from the lack of proper road maintenance. In Thursdays May 10th local paper called the Citizen a local fellow writes a column generally covering science related subjects. Think of him as our science guy. Anyhow he blames our increase in potholes on climate change, just the words climate change. He is very pro man caused climate change (warming). He goes on to say as the climate warms we will get more freeze thaw cycles. He does not back this up with any data, local or regional.

Ah, Gail, the genus Blattella that Rattus mentions but fails to properly italicize is specifically small cockroaches such as the German cockroach. He is however dead wrong about the humour content of Josh’s cartoons.

“Not funny. Nobody among the general population gives a rat’s behind about what “Tiljander” could be.”
And no one in the climate science community either.

A question unrelated to the rat vs roach side theme, just how do you format a font here? Even when I copy/paste a comment that was in bold or italicized it still shows up as plain text.
[ Reply: Use standard HTML tags, but a subset. So, for example, to do italics, use OPEN ANGLE i CLOSE ANGLE then end the italics with OPEN ANGLE /i CLOSE ANGLE. If I can do it right, that would be 〈i〉 and 〈/i〉 It will be left as an exercise for the student to figure out how to do the text of it while preventing the effect 😉
For Bold do the same thing but with b instead of i. -ModE ]

Hope I’m not crossing a line with this one

Hey Gail, you do what critters are represented by the genus Blattella, right? But then you folks here are such science super-geniuses, surely you couldn’t be that ignorant (or unable to use google)?
@Gail Combs:
Well, as my contribution to the “Rat Controversy”, realize that while rabbits and rodents are closely related, we are closely related to both of them… which would explain why they work so well for lab, er, rats….
http://chiefio.wordpress.com/2012/03/31/glires-and-euarchontoglires/
It seems that the primate line split off, but not that long ago… so to call someone a “rat” is not that far off…
FWIW, both rats and bunnies have a kind of ‘hind gut fermentation’ that makes them ruminants. Our appendix is the remnant of that organ. It is not as inactive as some folks claim, and the bacteria that live in it may be making needed vitamins…
But thank God we gave up the rest of the ‘hind gut fermenter’ process. Eating the, um, fermented product; for a second pass…. so “eat, er poo” has ancestral precedent…
“Natural Climate Variation: It’s Not Just For Skeptics Anymore…”
Not a bill board, but….
(and with apologies to Michael McDonald)
Sung to the tune of Ya Moh B There
Heavenly Briffa makes the temps rise
He takes from one tree ring and warm trend – surprise!
Well it’s a dog-gone shame
But never too late for change
So if your chrono runs low
Just reach out and call their name, their name
(Chorus)
Yamal be there (up and over)
Yamal be there (up and over)
Yamal be there (up and over)
Yamal be there (up and over)
Whenever you call
Medieval warm trend lost in the night
The Little Ice Age sucks
Poof – gone out of sight
’cause it’s a long hard road
That leads to a warmer day (hey)
Don’t let the Earth grow cold
Just reach out and call their name, their name
(Chorus)
You can count on it brother
Yamal can still show us the way
Travelling through time
Briffa’s got to keep pushing on
No matter how much truth slips away
Yamal be there
(Chorus)
Here’s another version of my it’s-the-sun billboard idea. Not-funny but possibly effective. Unlike my first attempt above, this one might actually be readable while driving?
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z36/AlecRawls/Environment%20and%20climate/BillboardSunBlue.png
Again, the substance of it is documented by my expose of omitted variable fraud in the First Order Draft of AR5.
I’d have a picture of the entuire team mann et al with a picture of the Stanley Cup next to them

Thanks. My computer literacy is pretty spotty. I can follow ladder logic, if slowly. I can write Obel code, again, slowly. Back in the days of DOS I was the network administrator at my work location. But now, and on my home PC, well, AOL is still my actual ISP. What I know about PCs is like a strobe light, flashes of brilliance followed by darkness. (Now if I can just figure out what an “HTML tag” is …. 😎
Kimmie — have you ever considered a career in the rapidly-expanding field of Demotivational Posters?
“What I know about PCs is like a strobe light, flashes of brilliance followed by darkness. ”
Not that my “brilliance” is ever that bright.
Some Billboards I would like to see:
A billboard showing sea level in Manhattan (Westside Highway) in 1988 and again in 2012 with a caption that World Reknown Climate Scientist Hansen predicted it will be under water by 2008.
With a question at the bottom “Do you still think it is wise to spend $trillions$ and destroy the US and world economy based on the current status of climate science?”
Another one showing the surface temperature graph from 1990 to 2012 plotted along side of Hansen’s famous “Business as Usual” scenario.
Caption would be ” So who are the climate deniers?”
Another one could be one with a picture of a windmill…. 100,000 windmills built: For every GREEN JOB created… 2.4 real jobs LOST. The next one could be yours.
I was enjoying this thread until the “Sales are down” chimp video.
I watched it and started to laugh – then, all of a sudden, it hit me:
HEY! I used to work there!
The boss with the cigar was named George, and he used to get pissed drunk every lunch hour and berate people all afternoon.
The CFO had an equally firm grasp of accounting principles – a calm, steady, even comatose hand at the financial tiller of the firm.
The easy, sleazy HR guy – how could I forget him?
The VP of Marketing was as upbeat and funny as ever.
The Chief Counsel was staunchly defending us from external threats, real and imagined.
They’ve all aged quite a bit, but I still recognized them, even after all these years.
I knew all these guys. Some days, I even miss (most of) them. 🙂

I’d have to disagree. Some on the CAGW gravy train still do.
“Wind Power – It doesn’t just blow, it sucks!”
“Solar Power – Stick it where the Sun don’t shine!”
Maybe not so funny but….

Anthony, you guys are too good. Every time I try to slip one through I gat nabbed. But it was funny, was it not?
IMO, Naughty Kimmy is winning among bloggers so far, Smacky botty, but the Tiljander is tops.

I think that I shall never see
A billboard lovely as a tree.
Perhaps unless the billboards fall,
I’ll never see a tree at all.
Ogden Nash, 1933, before the decline.
I think that there will never be
A cooling study of a tree.
Perhaps unless those ring counts fall
I’ll never see it warm at all.
