Merry Christmas – open thread

Above: Christmas trees in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres

As of this post, I’m offline until late Monday PST. Moderators, don’t be shy about taking time off too.

My sincerest and most heartfelt thank you all for your support this year, for daring to ask the questions, for standing up to what you believe in, and for staying the course. As Winston Churchill said, “Never give up, never give in.”

To all, no matter which side of the debate you are on, no matter whether you love me or hate me for what WUWT does, I wish you a Merry Christmas.

I leave you with a selection of my favorite Christmas music.

Britain’s Susan Boyle has been an inspiration to many, rising from obscurity to fame, for daring to be ridiculed on stage one night so that she could show the world what she could do. Here she is at Rockefeller plaza:

Holiday Greetings to Everyone!
Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all…and a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2012, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make this country great (not to imply that this country is necessarily greater than any other country), and without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith, or sexual orientation of the wisher.
This wish is limited to the customary and usual good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first. “Holiday” is not intended to, nor shall it be considered, limited to the usual Judeo-Christian celebrations or observances, or to such activities of any organized or ad hoc religious community, group, individual or belief (or lack thereof).
Note: By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms. This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher at any time, for any reason or for no reason at all. This greeting is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. This greeting implies no promise by the wisher to or responsibility for the consequences which may arise from the implementation or non-implementation of same.
This greeting is void where prohibited by law.
Happy Holidays!

It’s been a marvelous year of WUWT discovery, revelations, insight, funnies, and revealed truth — immersed in the continuous tide of truth-evasion by The Team, the Establishment Media, and the usual assortment of parroting fact-free blog-heads.
Weather will continue to illuminate the truth of “climate” and the general irrelevance of mankind to long-term trends. Poley bears will thrive. Life goes on. Our lives will continue to be enriched by fossil-fueled power. And plants will love us for our minor additions to their atmospheric fertilizer.
If any Warm-istas want to sell their “endangered” beachfront property at deep discount, I’m more than willing to engage.
Merry Christmas to all

CHRISTMAS PARTY

RE: Christmas Party
I’m happy to inform you that the company Christmas Party will take place on December 21st, starting at noon in the private function room at the Grill House. There will be a cash bar and plenty of drinks! We’ll have a small band playing traditional carols…please feel free to sing along.
And don’t be surprised if the MD shows up dressed as Santa Claus! A Christmas tree will be lit at 1.00p.m. Exchange of gifts among employees can be done at that time; however, no gift should be over $20.00 to make the giving of gifts easy for everyone’s pockets. This gathering is only for employees! The MD will make a special announcement at the Party.
Merry Christmas to you and your Family.
Pauline

RE: Holiday Party
In no way was yesterday’s memo intended to exclude our Jewish employees.
We recognize that Chanukah is an important holiday, which often coincides with Christmas, though unfortunately not this year. However, from now on we’re calling it our ‘Holiday Party’. The same policy applies to any other employees who are not Christians. There will be no Christmas tree or Christmas carols sung. We will have other types of music for your enjoyment.
Happy now?
Happy Holidays to you and your family.
Pauline.

RE: Holiday Party
Regarding the note I received from a member of Alcoholics Anonymous requesting a non-drinking table…you didn’t sign your name. I’m happy to accommodate this request, but if I put a sign on a table that reads, ‘AA Only’, you wouldn’t be anonymous anymore!!!! How am I supposed to handle this? Somebody? Forget about the gift exchange, no gift exchange allowed now since the Union Officials feel that $20.00 is too much money and Management believe $20.00 is a little cheap. NO GIFT EXCHANGE WILL BE ALLOWED.
Pauline.

RE: Holiday Party
What a diverse group we are! I had no idea that December 20th begins the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which forbids eating and drinking during daylight hours. There goes the party! Seriously, we can appreciate how a luncheon at this time of year does not accommodate our Muslim employees’
beliefs, perhaps the Grill House can hold off on serving your meal until the end of the party – or else package everything up for you to take home in a little foil doggy bag. Will that work? Meanwhile, I’ve arranged for members of Weight Watchers to sit farthest from the dessert buffet and pregnant women will get the table closest to the toilets, Gays are allowed to sit with each other, L*sbians do not have to sit with gay men, each will have their own table. Yes, there will be flower arrangements for the gay men’s table too. To the person asking permission to cross dress – no cross dressing allowed. We will have booster seats for short people. Low fat food will be available for those on a diet. We cannot control the salt used in the food we suggest those people with high blood pressure taste the food first. There will be fresh fruits as dessert for Diabetics; the restaurant cannot supply ‘No Sugar’ desserts. Sorry! Did I miss anything?!?!

RE: The F….. Holiday Party.
Vegetarians… I’ve had it with you people !!! We’re going to keep this party at the Grill House whether you like it or not, so you can sit quietly at the table furthest from the ‘grill of death’, as you so quaintly put it, you’ll get your f,,,,,, salad bar, including organic tomatoes, But you know tomatoes have feelings too, They scream when you slice them. I’ve heard them scream. I’m hearing the scream right NOW !!
I hope you all have a rotten holiday, drink drive and die.

I’m sure I speak for all of us in wishing Pauline a speedy recovery, and I’ll continue to forward your cards to her. In the meantime, the Management has decided to cancel our Holiday Party and instead, give everyone the afternoon of the 23rd December off with full pay.

With all respect to Lucy Skywalker above, I’d like to see here a whole bunch of personally posted messages from every language possible This represents an individual reaching out across the thousands of miles or kilometres that separate us, drawn together by a wish that unites us. Let’s send and see greetings in every language possible; perhaps this thread could close at midnight on Christmas night on the west coast, or in Hawaii, and then we’ll count how many languages are represented. Bonus points earned for a genuine reply in the same language. Call your friends and neighbours – let’s have a festive language fest. I’ll repeat my greeting now, to start us off:
Želim vam
