Open question to WUWT readers: Will one member of the mainstream media — that was so quick to give page-space to Bill McKibben’s ludicrous assertions about Irene — even bring up these comments by Gore? Will Revkin or Bryan Walsh or ThinkProgress disassociate themselves and their orgs or simply assent through their silence?
Update: end of 08/29 Zero mainstream media outlets (except Fox News) covered Al Gore’s “racist” connections. The silence was not unexpected. Andrew Revkin was more interested (again) in interjecting his opinions on “acceptable” candidates for the GOP primary, a constituency that does not “fit” his worldview. Must be fun to coordinate your messaging with Paul Krugman.

One day climate change skeptics will be seen in the same negative light as racists, at least so says former Vice President Al Gore.
In an interview with former advertising executive and Climate Reality Project collaborator Alex Bogusky broadcasted on UStream on Friday, Gore explained that in order for climate change alarmists to succeed, they must “win the conversation” against those who deny there is a crisis.

“I remember, again going back to my early years in the South, when the Civil Rights revolution was unfolding, there were two things that really made an impression on me,” Gore said. “My generation watched Bull Connor turning the hose on civil rights demonstrators and we went, ‘Whoa! How gross and evil is that?’ My generation asked old people, ‘Explain to me again why it is okay to discriminate against people because their skin color is different?’ And when they couldn’t really answer that question with integrity, the change really started.”
The former vice president recalled how society succeeded in marginalizing racists and said climate change skeptics must be defeated in the same manner.
“Secondly, back to this phrase ‘win the conversation,’” he continued. “There came a time when friends or people you work with or people you were in clubs with — you’re much younger than me so you didn’t have to go through this personally — but there came a time when racist comments would come up in the course of the conversation and in years past they were just natural. Then there came a time when people would say, ‘Hey, man why do you talk that way, I mean that is wrong. I don’t go for that so don’t talk that way around me. I just don’t believe that.’ That happened in millions of conversations and slowly the conversation was won.”
“We have to win the conversation on climate,” Gore added.
When Bogusky questioned the analogy, asking if the scientific reasoning behind climate change skeptics might throw a wrench into the good and evil comparison with racism, Gore did not back down.
“I think it’s the same where the moral component is concerned and where the facts are concerned I think it is important to get that out there, absolutely,” Gore said.
Gore also took shots at Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who has lambasted climate change alarmists on the presidential campaign trail, and other politicians who dare to question the veracity of global warming science.
“This is an organized effort to attack the reputation of the scientific community as a whole, to attack their integrity, and to slander them with the lie that they are making up the science in order to make money,” Gore said.
Ironically, back during Perry’s days as a Democrat, the Texas governor supported Gore in his 1988 presidential bid. Perry became a Republican in 1989.
I wonder if any civil rights leaders will call out this coward on his remarks?
And CuriousGeorge, thanks for the link.
I’m actually glad to see this being carried in the MSM, the more people who see this mentally unhinged psychopath for who he really is, the better.
“I remember, again going back to my early years in the debate, when the Climategate revolution was unfolding, there were two things that really made an impression on me. “My generation watched Mckintyre and McKitrick turning the spotlight on Green remonstrators and we went, ‘Whoa! How gross and evil is that?’ My generation asked old people, ‘Explain to me again why it is okay to discriminate against people because their statistics is different?’ And when they couldn’t really answer that question with integrity, the change really started.”
Secondly, back to this phrase ‘win the conversation,’” he continued. “There came a time when friends or people you work with or people you were in clubs with — you’re much younger than me so you didn’t have to go through this personally — but there came a time when holocaust denier comments would come up in the course of the conversation and in years past they were just natural. Then there came a time when people would say, ‘Hey, man why do you talk that way, I mean that is wrong. I don’t go for that so don’t talk that way around me. Wouldn’t worry too much. Old Al lost his mojo quite a while ago. This speech has been featured by the pro-science side, but the pro-Gaia side is looking away. Even New Superstitionist, which normally headlines every recommendation for “new ways to communicate” the One True Faith, is ignoring it.
This the scum.Who avoids all debate opportunities.
Cleary, Al is following the Lindsay Lohan formula for staying in the media eye. The one good aspect of this is that it may serve to wake up the unbiased scientists out there across all fields of study to show how far off tract this debate has swung and how much science has been undermined in the process. They had better wake up soon because budget reality is going to hit science funding one of these days and the AGW funding part of the pie will be a threat for legitimate science funding.
Gore……….A bloody mess, associated with a Horror movie.
I am happy to be a denier, associated with real world Empirical Evidence and Facts.
eg. CO2 (Plant Food) is not a pollutant, it is essential to all life on earth including Gore.
bogusky, eh…
poor gore – he’s reacting like anyone else who’s dependent on your money being given to him. i bet he thinks he understands the legitimate purpose of government, too. he has kindred spirits by the score, these days.
it’s interesting that he’s so easy to repudiate as a grifter – but others who haven’t scored a laughing.stock award still get to peddle their entitlement vision with impunity.
Sorry Al – that’s just bullshit.
I am puzzled why they (any big media network) would never allow a big panel discussion with the big guys on the science from both sides. Not that I think Al Gore has any understanding of the science involved, so I don’t think anyone should invite him. That would just be a waste of time.

No Al. But it is certainly being said about you and a few of the team! GK

“Al is a prime example of an “intellectual”…….a man consumed by his ego, unable to comprehend why there is no market for his hubris.”
Wrong, wrong, and wrong. Al Gore is not an intellectual. You have defined “intellectual” far too narrowly. Professor Lindzen is an intellectual, among other things. Though Al is consumed by his ego, the harm he causes and the harm he promotes are a quantum leap beyond what the garden variety narcissist causes. Apparently, he is calling for censorship of statements that are contrary to the claims of “mainstream climate science.” He is a Constitution burner.

“This man was the vice president of the United States of America…………..”
Don’t remind us. We hand our heads in shame. What could have been:
President Carter
President Clinton
President Gore
President Obama.
Pundit/Scold/Self-proclaimed Ambassador at large:
Carter
Clinton
Gore
Obama
Carter forged the path of Pundit/Scold/Self-proclaimed Ambassador at large. Clinton has been downright reserved by comparison. But can you imagine Gore? For that matter, can you imagine Obama?
Those who claim that the Right is paranoid for labeling the Left as socialist or communist surely must agree that Al Gore is socialist or communist in every fiber of his being. Well, except for his love of raking in the big bucks and living large.
You don’t need to be a climate warming skeptic to condemn Gore’s repeated toxic interventions in the climate science debate. Science is about the observational and analytical testing of ideas. Introducing emotion — the fear of abuse, anxiety about non-conformity, etc. — into a scientific debate corrupts science. When dishonesty in scientific debate is encouraged by politicians who control the funding of scientific research, one can be sure that resulting research will tend to feeble-mindedness or outright fraud.
Is Al hoping we will believe him by talking as if he is martyring himself? His demeanor is of someone constantly under attack and nobody believes him, even though he is telling the truth and saving the world.
This is acceptable? What if we compare the climate change zealots to the religious zealots of the middle ages ( Spanish Inquisition) cramming their beliefs down everyone’s throat?
Further proof that Gore hasn’t a clue as to how science works. To him it apparently is a political contest that requires convincing those who know nothing about the subject to a particular
point of view. Gore is so clueless I don’t see how it’s possible to have a discussion with the guy.
“Will one member of the mainstream media — that was so quick to give page-space to Bill McKibben’s ludicrous assertions about Irene — even bring up these comments by Gore? Will Revkin or Bryan Walsh or ThinkProgress disassociate themselves and their orgs or simply assent through their silence?”
Umm… the latter. Especially since they agree with his statements entirely.
Four or five years ago Al Gore was on the global stage collecting an Academy Award and a Nobel Prize. He is now on some YouTube video. The man has a right to be bitter, let him wallow in his vitriol.
If Global Warming caused Hurricane Irene, the residents of the Eastern Seaboard can be appreciative of the way in which Global Warming degraded it from a Cat 3 to a Tropical Storm.
Mighty bold words coming from a member of the Gore Family.
His Pop wasn’t a shining example of Tolerance, and according to a
retired Fed marshal I know, Al didn’t like Black agents around him..
Hearsay, of course. Now I get to hear my lefty co-worker exclaim:
“See the Profit has spoken! You guys are racists too! Praise Gaia!”
Let his kid walk through the door with a Hispanic, Black or Native American
Girl and we’ll see him get his”pure European” blood up…
(yes he calls it that..)
That guy is an idiot. People are born with their skin colors. People are not born with climate science embedded in their brains. We learn things and make our minds based on the sum of our knowledge. He is the intellectual racist by being against those that are not thinking like him. Truly, how can he get lower.. I am sure he will find a way to stood lower next time.
Minister for climate change Combet said a similar thing. Skeptics support a white climate change
policy. I wonder where he got that idea from? And there I was thinking that carbon could be black too. LOL
The problem with Al is he’s all depressed and anxious-
http://news.smh.com.au/breaking-news-national/climate-will-make-us-depressed-and-anxious-20110829-1jhbm.html
How do they keep cooking this stuff up and sleeping at night? Do they remove all the mirrors in their homes and faculty lounges? What sort of net nanny do they use?…….
These are the great philosophical questions about life I keep asking myself…..
Climate skeptics also come out with slanderous analogies – Monckton compared a warmist to Hitler. The best way to oppose these attacks is to accuse the accuser of opposing freedom of speech – if you support it, you cannot use terms like ‘racist’, which are designed to prevent it.
Let us be grateful that George Bush, if nothing else, kept this idiot Al Gore out of the White House.
