Open question to WUWT readers: Will one member of the mainstream media — that was so quick to give page-space to Bill McKibben’s ludicrous assertions about Irene — even bring up these comments by Gore? Will Revkin or Bryan Walsh or ThinkProgress disassociate themselves and their orgs or simply assent through their silence?
Update: end of 08/29 Zero mainstream media outlets (except Fox News) covered Al Gore’s “racist” connections. The silence was not unexpected. Andrew Revkin was more interested (again) in interjecting his opinions on “acceptable” candidates for the GOP primary, a constituency that does not “fit” his worldview. Must be fun to coordinate your messaging with Paul Krugman.

One day climate change skeptics will be seen in the same negative light as racists, at least so says former Vice President Al Gore.
In an interview with former advertising executive and Climate Reality Project collaborator Alex Bogusky broadcasted on UStream on Friday, Gore explained that in order for climate change alarmists to succeed, they must “win the conversation” against those who deny there is a crisis.
(RELATED: Bill McKibben: Global warming to blame for Hurricane Irene)
“I remember, again going back to my early years in the South, when the Civil Rights revolution was unfolding, there were two things that really made an impression on me,” Gore said. “My generation watched Bull Connor turning the hose on civil rights demonstrators and we went, ‘Whoa! How gross and evil is that?’ My generation asked old people, ‘Explain to me again why it is okay to discriminate against people because their skin color is different?’ And when they couldn’t really answer that question with integrity, the change really started.”
The former vice president recalled how society succeeded in marginalizing racists and said climate change skeptics must be defeated in the same manner.
“Secondly, back to this phrase ‘win the conversation,’” he continued. “There came a time when friends or people you work with or people you were in clubs with — you’re much younger than me so you didn’t have to go through this personally — but there came a time when racist comments would come up in the course of the conversation and in years past they were just natural. Then there came a time when people would say, ‘Hey, man why do you talk that way, I mean that is wrong. I don’t go for that so don’t talk that way around me. I just don’t believe that.’ That happened in millions of conversations and slowly the conversation was won.”
“We have to win the conversation on climate,” Gore added.
When Bogusky questioned the analogy, asking if the scientific reasoning behind climate change skeptics might throw a wrench into the good and evil comparison with racism, Gore did not back down.
“I think it’s the same where the moral component is concerned and where the facts are concerned I think it is important to get that out there, absolutely,” Gore said.
Gore also took shots at Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who has lambasted climate change alarmists on the presidential campaign trail, and other politicians who dare to question the veracity of global warming science.
“This is an organized effort to attack the reputation of the scientific community as a whole, to attack their integrity, and to slander them with the lie that they are making up the science in order to make money,” Gore said.
Ironically, back during Perry’s days as a Democrat, the Texas governor supported Gore in his 1988 presidential bid. Perry became a Republican in 1989.
If one has all the facts and all the science and all the media on board, the only way to lose the conversation is if you are stupid.

How long do we have to wait until this guy is forced to give back his so called peace prize?
I know of a much more deserving candidate for the 2007 prize. He works for peace every waking hour of his life, a real amazing guy who risks his daily life for peace. A man in such risk it’s not possible to mention his name here. It makes me cry to think this thug sullied the honour of that prize. Don’t think that I didn’t write to the Nobel Committee at the time to complain.
The 10th December 2007 – the day I turned off all media so that I didn’t have to watch or hear about it.
Just 3 more years to wait until the barefaced lies he made in that acceptance speech come back to haunt him.
The treachery that has unfolded in the name of MMGW and the fear, and the damage, induced in the hearts of our young ones by his story is incalculable. There are no other words for it – it is evil.
I apologise but that is how I feel when I see the thug use words like these to steal the real, valid, and important thoughts, ideas, results and opinions of real people who care about the truth and his continued attempts to turn them to naught – it’s just plain unacceptable, the method abhorrent.
I’ll say again. How long do we have to wait until this guy is forced to give back the Nobel Peace Prize?
It’s amazing how much money an idiot can make.
The media constantly bombards us with the meme that making money somehow requires intelligence. Al Gore is living proof that a moron can be a millionaire, all that’s required is to suck in the gullible.
How can Gore talk about ‘winning the conversation’ when he has refused on every occasion that he has been invited to debate global warming with sceptics? He is obviously seeing the beginning of the end of the cult that he has developed at great financial gain to himself. .
He’s absolutely right, only on the wrong side of the issue, thousands of skeptics are challenging warmers with the facts every day and little by little we are pulling back the curtain to show the “consensus” on global warming is a sham and a snake oil pitch.
Insert name of every major advocate of global warming as needed to replace “they” and that is the tide change that Gore has completely missed.
He plain and simple has no clue, is a scientific illiterate and a compulsive liar (habitually misrepresents the facts to suit his scam).
It is sad (and a bit scary) that someone so clueless actually got nominated to be the electoral candidate for president by a major party. Thankfully he lost and did not inflict his delusions on the country via executive order.

This is Gore’s only recourse. Science is testable, observable, repeatable evidence. You cannot do any of those with man made global warming, therefore it is not even science. Gore doesn’t want you to debate with him about his religion.
finally something I put into the tips gets posted AFTER I put it in 🙂
The alarmists have long avoided debate and for a good reason. They would lose.
The more debate there is the more people will learn about the fallacies of CAGW.
Most alarmists don’t know:
1) CO2 is a terrible Greenhouse gas. [.4 ° C per doubling]
This isn’t nearly enough for any catastrophe
The rest is smoke and mirrors and isn’t happening.
2) The effect of CO2 is logarithmic so each molecule does less warming.
3) The warming from 1978 to 1998 was natural and has happened 3 times since temperature records began. The first 2 couldn’t have been caused by CO2.
carbon is black, therefore co2 is black
hanging chad gore is anti co2
therefore he is the racist
thats science that is

Nice way to put it!
When you have no real argument, cry RACIST.
From over the BRIC wall come the mutters: ‘What’s all that honking about’.

And they say Dan Quayle was the dumb one.
I’m pretty sure that Algore was planning to come out as the storm demolished NYC and say “told you so.” But the storm faded so he an attack on skeptics is all he’s got.
Someone asked about where Gore makes his money.
Gore owns a huge investment-management firm that invests in “sustainable” businesses and industries. So, literally, if he can convince the large investors, including nations and agencies of nations, then he makes money. He makes money off of convincing people that AGW is true.
His firm is called “Generation Investment Management, LLC.”
This is truth, not racism. Go look it up:
http://www.generationim.com/
He has over a billion in investment assets managed:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/11/business/worldbusiness/11iht-gore.4.10942634.html
Do the math. If he gets .01 percent per year, he is super-wealthy.
Gore’s investment management firm is buddied-up with the UN – The UN has a big effort to get countries to put assets in “green” investments managed by – guess who – Al Gore:

Info on how the UN is going to countries, convicing them of global warming, then getting them to invest in “green” “sustainable” stuff:

There you have it. This is the same as a hand soap company convincing us there are germs everywhere, then offering to sell us hand sanitizer. Except that he is masquerading as some selfless humanitarian, and using the mechanism of the U.N.
Some Gore supporters have declared that Gore is awesome and selfless because he is doing this selflessly, including giving away the proceeds from his Inconvenient Truth movie.
He could give away that money without much sweat because he is bringing in much more by being an investment manager.
In these interviews, no one ever asks, “Hey Al, how is your investment management firm doing?”
Whenever I bring this up with a “warmer,” they are totally unawares. They really look up to him like the messiah he thinks he is.

(But many warmist commenters don’t have the grasp of the subject they think they do-and they often make a poor impression in the way they conduct themselves.)

Ha ha ha. Did you have anyone in particular in mind ?? Where did he go ??
Al Gore, Sr., like Bull Conner, was a Democrat and voted against the 1964 civil-rights act. So when Junior compares climate change skeptics to Bull Conner, is that his way of calling us all racist, Klan-loving Democrats?
Then why is any scientist who produces research critical of the warmists perceived reality of Apocalyptic Global Warming denounced as a shill of “Big Oil”? Are not scientist who reach dissenting conclusions also part of the scientific community as a whole?
Can someone direct me to a place where it is explained how carbon traps heat? I’m serious.
Gore is an idiot. So is Bogusky. Their analogies/comparisons are so totally off the wall.
I have read and re-read what this stupid man has said and I still cannot believe it!
How can you equate racism with climate change denial? Racism is illogical bigotry and should not be tolerated. Climatology on the other hand is a science and should be open to debate.
Describing this idiot as a former Vice-President is at least better than describing him as a former, President or God forbid, your current President. Mind having said that, it is a close call.
Yessir, Nothing like Leisure Suit Larry interviewing algore.
Clinton and Gore didn’t submit Kyoto to Congress for ratification, either (although they’d ignored the 97-0 Hagel-Byrd resolution in the first place by agreeing to Kyoto in principle with the int’l community). Racist scumbags.
re: Roger Knights says: August 28, 2011 at 3:09 pm
I wish that were true – and for some I’m sure it still is. Unfortunately these days there is massive amounts of money to be made that goes far beyond grant money. Even grant money – if you are successful with it, it can wind up supporting your trips to professional society meetings, topic meetings, international meetings, etc. All in lovely vacation spots. Fund your research assistants trips also. Buy fun new toys (laboratory equipment) that isn’t really necessary but is awfully nice to have. Gain status within your field – which can lead to supplemental income in a number of different ways – or supplemental free trips. Beyond that, there can be honorariums for speeches, and so on.
James Hansen is a prime example. See: http://biggovernment.com/chorner/2011/06/23/lawsuit-seeks-ethics-filings-of-nasas-global-warming-activist-james-hansen/
Lawsuit Seeks Ethics Filings of NASA’s Global Warming Activist, James Hansen
by Christopher C. Horner
This week I filed a lawsuit against the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), in federal district court…ATI’s transparency project now seeks to force NASA to release ethics records for taxpayer-funded global warming activist Dr. James Hansen, specifically those pertaining to his outside employment, revenue generation, and advocacy activities.
What we are trying to determine is whether NASA approved Hansen’s widespread, well-documented, high-profile and, it turns out, extremely lucrative “outside employment and other activities”, permission for which must be obtained in writing, in advance. Public financial disclosures and other documents reveal that he has received at least $1.2 million in the past four years, more than doubling his taxpayer-financed salary. [emphasis added]
…..That is, although we removed from the final version a reminder of Hansen’s escalation to knee-jerk invocation of Nazi analogies, this remains a key point about this gusher of outside income. All of which comes on top of — and, more troubling, is all “related to” and is sometimes even according to his benefactors expressly for — his taxpayer-funded employment. (continued online)
Wonder why Al Gore didn’t mention that the old people he was talking about and the conversation that disgusted him were happening within his own house. His daddy was one of the democrats who fought hard to keep black people in their place and DID NOT vote yes for the Civil Rights Act. His father and Senator Robert Byrd were top of the line KKK democrat racists, so Mr. Gore is speaking from first hand experience, but then again he is known to lie about his fathers racism.
Democrat Senator Al Gore voted against the 1964 Civil Rights Act as did segregationist Democrat Senator William J. Fulbright.
