Appropriately, a green dragon. Puff the magic dragon he ain’t.

It’s all about this book

Newsflash: there are no dragons. Sky or otherwise. So slaying or framing one is an exercise in fantasizing, and running from it is pure delusion.

When I first clicked on the link, the page title read “Book Store Science Fiction B&W…”, Now, it just reads “Book Store B&W…”.
Probably not meaningful, but thought it worth mentioning.

34$? I’m not paying that to read what I already know but hey, as an indication of the winds of change, its probably a good thing!

Just like dragons, AGW is part of the mythology. Unfortunately, in the present myth the Princes and Kings fed the dragon to keep it alive instead of saving the villages by getting rid of the dragon. How times have changed.

Sorry, but I somehow missed the gist of this. Anyone have a link or quick summary to explain it?
Thanks.

Oh, I don’t know, Ray. There is a long-standing tradition of those in authority sacrificing virgins to the dragons. These days there’s a shortage of virgins, so they just sacrifice everyone.

So that’s what the all-ballyhooed climate “Tipping Point” looks like. I saw something like him in a dream I had one recent Saturday night–after eating way too much and way too late at my favorite Mexican restaurant.
Enigma solved.

Looks like I’m in excellent company with my questions about CO2 not really doing much in the heat category.
The alleged influence of CO2 on the temperature never passed “the smell test” for me… just not logical.
Thanks for pointing out the dragon book… I had no idea… there is hope ahead to correct the warm spin! I’m more optimistic now.
This blog feels so comfortable like an old pair of favorite jeans…
WUWT is becoming my favorite site for just “the news”… very good.

I am looking forward to some real photos, of real climate scientists in a similar pose.
Will they have such bewildered expressions?
Josh, I have been staring at the dragon for 5 minutes. That is a stunning bit of artwork

March 1, 2011 2:51 pm

Where would we be without Josh’s witty take on things? Well done, Josh!
For Al Gored…the basis of the climate activist’s argument and justification for absurd schemes like global carbon taxes and cap and trade (cap and tax) is the supposed imbalance in outgoing radiation caused by CO2 (forcing) and water vapor (feedback). The Slaying the Sky Dragon book attacks this idea from a couple of different points-of-view and shines a spotlight on nonsense represented by ideas like “back radiation”.
The book stirs a lot of heated argument (almost 2,000 comments at Judith Curry’s site). We’re talking about trillions of dollars and vast restrictions of human freedom…all based on an effect that can’t be isolated, measured or quantified. Amazing!

Just got back from the B&N book store where I saw a Thames and Kosmos Global Warming science kit for $34.95. It was advertized for 10 year olds and up. On the front of the box it stated that you could experiment with a model atmosphere and earth’s climate and climate change.

Puff the magic dragon he ain’t.
“Puffing” can make one see magic dragons, so I’ve heard. It can even make (C)AGW seem plausible.

Tell them they don’t exist. Feel free to imagine running away if one comes after you.

Actually they “sacrifice” nearly all virgins to that particular dragon these days, by indoctrinating all the kiddies in the (C)AGW belief in the public schools, before they’ve even learned how to begin to think for themselves.
I’ve heard many people complain over the years about parents submitting their children to “religious indoctrination,” yet not one word from them about the forced “learning” of the worshiping of Mother Gaia. Go figure.

Al Gored, the book this refers to is Slaying the Sky Dragon and is quite controversial and has been much ‘discussed’ on Climate etc and other blogs.

This book was reviewed at Judith Curry’s blog:

I agree with Curry:
“I suspect that many undergrad physics or atmospheric science majors at Georgia Tech could effectively refute these chapters.”

I had heard of that book but knew nothing about it. But haven’t the AGW gang already produced some pal reviewed papers predicting a catastrophic increase in dragons if we don’t pay up? Not yet?
It is hard to keep up with the imaginary AGW threats these days.
Speaking of large lizards, and Donald Rumsfeld, here’s a humorous video…

Unfortunately there is still a raging blood sucking red headed dragon with a green body running rampant in the Antipodes.
It is proving difficult to slay this dragon because the populace have their hands tied behind their backs having been hoodwinked into giving the red headed dragon a free reign of the land for 3 years.
Unless there is a public uprising like that going on in the Middle East looks like the red headed dragon will be smiling all the way to the blood bank.

Tell me about it. I teach “College English” at a college in Toronto. The first thing I tell them at the beginning of every semester is “You cannot write about Global Warming. If you insist on writing about Global Warming you have to answer the following questions before you begin.” I then ask them a series of questions such as, “What is the CRU?” “What is the hockey stick graph?” “What does it mean that the effect of CO2 is algorithmic?” and so on.
And every semester — every semester — I get half a dozen or so who submit an essay on the dangers of Global Warming. To say they are indoctrinated is like saying that the Moonies tended to think a lot alike.
(Does anyone remember the Moonies?)

What do dragons eat?
It appears that Chinese dragons eat clouds . . . at least according to old Chinese legends.
So more dragons means less clouds. Thus dragons are an unaccounted for factor in cloud feedback.
Wow! Will I get a Nobel prize for this?

To maintain your beautiful state of blissful ignorance, I suggest you make no effort to whatsoever to understand the arguments and positions taken by the Dragon Slayers. In fact, you should dismiss the whole thing as complete and total nonsense…without ever having seen the book, touched the book, cracked open the book, or heaven forbid, actually ever read a single word of it.
I also suggest you completely disregard any thoughts about how a rarefied, low-pressure, tiny thermal mass, low density, extremely cold gas can make the earth’s surface warmer than it otherwise would have been. Don’t trouble yourself with any thoughts about how humans can create a giant radiation modulator in thin air. Don’t entertain any troubling ideas about how 390PPM of CO2 can capture and store heat energy. Don’t concern yourself with how 390PPM of CO2 can retard photons and significantly prevent (or hamper or delay) them from escaping into space. Don’t think about “back radiation” from thin air…what that really means and whether its measurable, quantifiable or if it even exists.
Sleep the peaceful sleep of an innocent, Steve…with my blessing.

Love it Josh. This is in the best satirical tradition. It is important that the mirror of art or humor reflect all sides of all questions back to us. Helps keep everyone’s feet firmly on the ground. Thanks Josh.

This article was posted on 1 March which is St David’s Day. (St David is the patron saint of Wales). If there were no dragons then we would not have one on the Welsh flag but the Welsh dragon is red, not green.
The reason why it is not green is that it breathes fire, thus adding to CO2 emissions!

Just for the information of those who claim that dragons don’t exist:

Apparently there are quite a few in Australia… so many that they made one their national reptile emblem.

Josh has a copy of the book. Perhaps he has not studied it in detail, but he has read through it. That makes your clueless comment a smear.

No dragons? Ah, but myth and magic are not meant literally. As Saint George and those who heed his message understand, “the dragons you slay lie within you.” Confronting them requires a noble charger, a long lance, shining moral armor– above all, Good Grace.
No wonder climate hysterics breathe fire, spread leathery wings, swoop like harpies on those who penetrate their Green Gang scams. But all the while, modest-seeming but invincible Armies of the Light assemble under flowing banners, and they shall prevail.

Thanks Josh. I missed your comment earlier but two others also helped clarify this for me… and now that I have looked into it your cartoon really makes sense, and makes me laugh. A mug shot! Something tells me that that dragon is going to be acting more like an ostrich when it comes to dealing with this.
How about a cartoon about the ‘consensus’ stampeding over a cliff?

Josh – A brilliant cartoon.
Anthony – Congratulations for having the courage (and foresight) to post it.
All – The cartoon depicts as I see it.
The sky dragon has not only been convicted but is incarcerated,
awaiting the final (DEATH) penalty.
The dragon’s expression is it saying,
” Al, James, Gavin, Phil, Keith,
SAVE ME.”
But it will NOT be saved, not by the named above,
not by the UN,
not by the EU,
not by the IPCC,
not by the pseudo science “consensus”,
nor, even by the “true believers” of
this patently sky dragon, flat earth society that (CO2) AGW is.
ALL BECAUSE OF THE CONTENTS FROM VARIOUS AUTHORS OF ONE BOOK.
