Gore’s a bust – a frozen one

‘Frozen Gore’ sculpture returns in Fairbanks to fuel climate change debate

Fairbanks Daily Miner  | January 5, 2010 | Jeff Richardson

FAIRBANKS – In what might become an annual tradition, an ice sculpture of former Vice President Al Gore has taken its place in front of Thrifty Liquor along Airport Way.

The two-ton “Frozen Gore” sculpture isn’t exactly a tribute. It’s a tongue-in-cheek critique of Gore’s vocal belief in man-made climate change, complete with hot air pouring out of his mouth.

Local businessmen Craig Compeau and Rudy Gavora contracted the piece from award-winning sculptor Steve Dean and say they’ll keep erecting one each winter until Gore accepts an invitation to discuss the global warming issue in Fairbanks.

“We do want to invite debate,” Compeau said. “We don’t agree with his theories — we’re suspicious of the financial motivation behind them.”

This year’s version includes special effects, thanks to a system that pipes the exhaust from a Ford F-350 out of Gore’s open mouth. Compeau will fire up the truck periodically this winter to create the “hot air” effect.

Dessler responds to Pielke Sr about water vapor feedback… an exercise that suggests one doesn’t even need a climate model to calculate the positive feedback and thus the warming is happening.
It reminds me this Science academy member in France who wrote a mathematical demonstration about the impossibility for a biplane to fly. It was few weeks before Farman or another pioneer indeed flew his byplane… Then the same academician wrote another paper explaining why a biplane could fly.
Dessler should understand the how the atmosphere really works before wasting our time and sucking up to the IPCC…

dunno if this has been posted. I found this interesting… an Eco website presenting a very balanced view of AGW in a post-climategate world.
http://www.ecowho.com/articles/42/Climategate,_what_is_going_on?.html
At the end they seem to indicate that CO2 was always exagerrated as a problem. It’s rather remarkable.

Richard Black has now defended BBC news reporting on AGW.
I think his comments need to be challenged and that any genuine, documented examples of bias should be raised while this subject is in the MSM.

Great clip of Andrew Neil on the BBC Daily Politics Show, broadcast today, grilling the UK’s warmist MET office chief about their rubbish forecasts for a barbeque summer and mild winter – and his 25% payrise – despite getting every forecast completely wrong for the last 3 years.

This is what we need from the MSM – tough questions – strongly put.

Am I the only one for whom the image from the article will not load?
Love that they are using a F-350 for the “special effect.” What would have been better would have been a truck with a diesel engine. Imagine the noise it would create along with the “hot air” coming out of Albaby’s mouth. But I know you gotta go with what ya got, so an engine for a F-350 is still a wonderful prop.

Our Gav is not happy so I tried to help see to bring him back on the straight and narrow, I said look Gav do not quote proper scientists on your site cos it will make you look bad, does he listen, no.
Dear Gav
It is along time since we got close lovely boy and I am only trying to help.
See its like this Plass was a scientist something you are not. So why bring him in on your state funded web site to gain reflected glory, it wont work lovely boy.
Everything you and the team have stood for is just a pile of excrement. So some people may say.
How many r’s in resignation? Only Joking see.

ps you are an absolute becon to British Science just like your fraudulent mate Phil Jones.
Your never listen I keep telling you the site name is spelt incorrectly for goodness sake change it to UnReal Climate. Before we get more complaints.

I just read an article about Al Gore’s electrical usage (in kWH) at his residence. Recently, Al Gore has been consuming about 100 times as much electricity at his residence in a month as I do at mine in the same period. If you really want to know what is in the hearts and minds of politicians, look for clues, and size them up by what they do, not what they say. All of his actions say:
“The Reverend Al Gore, false prophet of doom.”

>Actually, Alaska has been warmer than normal this year.
That’s a good thing. I spent 3 winters in Fairbanks as a soldier (outside for 2 week or more excercises). I don’t think that this little textbox can contain my thoughts about what I think about a winter in Alaska, so I’ll forgo them. 🙂

Through satellite measurements of both the real Al (don’t ask where he is) and the ice sculpture, with correctional analysis done on my hand calculator, using tree ring data from the forest behind my house and the same trick – opps, I mean “formula” the CRU needs – opps again, “applies” to their data sets to be scientifically sure the numbers come out – “right”, I am happy to report that the core temperature of the sculpture is (or was at the time of measurement) 3.45 degrees F warmer than Al himself. Of course the anomaly is -.17 from last year so, Al is gaining.
Of course, all of the above info is as useless to any of us as knowing the “calculated” over/under anomaly of the “calculated” average global atmospheric temperature of this hour, this day, this week, etc. last year, last decade, last century…
While sitting around the old igloo here in Florida it makes good fodder for a short, very short, conversation and that’s about it. It does nothing to save the strawberry crop.

This is the kind of garbage that is passed off as science.
They conclude that paleo CO2 levels were “remarkably constant”, based on their estimate of past pH.
Not one consideration of the fact that past CO2 sinks could have just kept up,
keeping the oceans buffered, and that past pH levels would not be an indication
of atmospheric CO2.

If Anthony will accept a wildly OT post which might interrupt your gorey fun, I’ve got a post which demonstrates urban warming bias in the GHCN data.
http://noconsensus.wordpress.com/2010/01/05/cru-3b-urban-warm-bias-in-ghcn/
As far as I’m concerned, this is basically proof of urban warming bias although the magnitude is still in question.

You’re right. I use to enjoy reading and thought I was getting up-to-date, scientifically correct information from a number of different “science” magazines, including Discover. But their manner of reporting (if you can call it that) on AGW has caused me to question ALL of their (corrected) information, to the point that, IMHO, NONE of it can be trusted and I stopped buying them a long time ago. What amazes me is that they continue to keep their collective PC heads stuck firmly in the sand and blame the internet for their crashing circulation.

There is a picture of the December anomalies, supplied by the Met Office UK at the BBC site, which shows most of the world at above normal temperatures, including NZ and Eastern Europe, for December which doesnt seem to be correct. We had a very cool December.
Will someone tell me if it is correct, thanks? and if not pop along to the site and correct it?

DirkH (09:12:02) : There is no need to, they changed to “climate change” already.
However, in the meantime. there was a “Climate Gate” so, they, for sure, are getting new buyable “scientists”, bloggers and journalists to recruit for their “altruistic” cause of becoming the sole owners of this world.
