Despite my having to cut back on posting and moderation to nights and weekends in order to devote more time to my livelihood during these economic down times, WUWT continues to grow. Today I reached another new milestone, nearly 1/4 million page views (248,116) in a single week. This is counted up to 00 GMT which is 4PM PST. Heard on the Biz news – worst weather (coldest, snowiest) during the shopping season in 20 years in the North East.
This is an important metric, what retail stocks do, like Macy’s M or Penny’s JCP, are directly driven by the weather during the Christmas shopping season. It is watched very closely by retail stock traders. Fewer folks go out to shop in the cold and snow; and Lord help the retailer who stocks to few (or two many) warm coats in cold (or warm) weather… M is down ~10% mid day on this news, for example.
We now have the lost ice levels since 2002 for this period of time. Anyone care to speak on this topic? Is it possible the the area that is frozen is thicker, even though it’s less area?

Yours is one of the only two (2) climate sites I visit every day (I have 22 bookmarked).
In my eyes, your site is heavier on interesting “data” — some developed by your project. After reading climate sites a few months, I have read all the commentary I need. Now only data and/or mathematical analysis (accompanied by relevant comments) will do — your site is good for that.
Most sites seem to pick a side, and this one is no different. I appreciate it when sites do not demean the opposition’s character or intelligence — but, rather, take their science to task by providing concrete data and analysis. Given the “skeptic” orientation of this site, your posts seem restrained enough most of the time.

Yes, this is a great science site, and I can understand the exclusion of politics. The resources section does not even have a link to the Petition Project, for example. However…if skeptical scientists avoid politics, the new Lysenkoism will be unopposed, and the debate-is-over narrative will rule.
For Gore and the Gorons, great commentary that reaches about one in ten thousand citizens (if that many) is irrelevant. A new Dalton Minimum will eventually make things clear, but there will be a lot of economic damage before that time. The variability-due-to-AGW propaganda will last for a few more years.
It should be obvious by now that AGW is the great hope of politicians who want to control all economic activity. AGW is not an intellectual error; it is a deliberate and effective political program.
So, while it is appropriate to avoid politics here, skeptics had better do more than sign petitions that have zero political impact. Up to now, the rational side is talking to itself.

Dose anyone else see the “snow cover” touching on some of the isle lands and there seams to be an isle land on the top right that is not on the left map!!!!
there would be a lot less “ICE” if it is considered “snow on land” ….

Funny how people are flocking to news sources where they can read the truth, and jumping ship from the traditional sources of propaganda. Perhaps the Internet will protect free speech and democracy through this current dark period. We can all hope and pitch in.

I think that would be 71-2000 (which should still cover the “modern global warming” period).
Remember, GISS consistantly shows as the “hottest” because of the reference period (51-80, I believe), while HadCRU and NCDC use later time periods.
