Joe Bastardi on 60 Minutes and Gore

Veteran Meteorologist Joe Bastardi of AccuWeather on Al Gore’s 60 minutes interview:

I am absolutely astounded that someone who refuses to publicly debate anyone on this matter and has no training in the field narrated a movie where frames of nuclear explosions were interspersed in a subliminal way in scenes of droughts and flood, among other major gaffes, can say these things and then have them accepted… by anyone.

If you wish to write letters to CBS New regarding the issue, see my post on the same subject here.

Al Gore invented the internet; the internet un-invented Al Gore (when the lad ventured into global warming futures). Hoist by his own petard?

This was the launch of the 300 million dollar propaganda campaign. Why is a propaganda campaign necessary?
Gore is getting desparate. This was is his last play, attempting to isolate the people who want to look at the facts, as the facts are not going his way.

I attempted to watch the interview last night after the BB game, but had to turn it off after about ten minutes due to nausea. And CBS wonders why no one listens to their rot any more.

The 300 mil is already being spent. Notice the recent uptick of alarmist news items. That is PR in action.

Yes, the increase in alarmism is noticeable. It is either inversely proportional to deltaT or time from next upcoming international global warming meeting.

It’s getting colder; the alarmists are getting colder, and spitting in fear. I’d really like to know where that $300,000,000 is coming from. There is dirty work being done at the crossroads.

Ah, fooey, I meant to say ‘the alarmists are shivering, and spitting in fear’.

Gore is no more likely to debate a skeptical scientist than the Pope would debate an atheistic historian. Al is a true believer. Facts are irrelevant.
His faith has given him even greater international prestige than that he believes was stolen from him in Florida. It has made him a multi-millionaire. The adulation given him as spokesman for his faith by other ignorant believers feeds his immense ego. He saw the Nobel award as confirmation of his faith, views, and opinions as “TRUTH.”
He cannot admit even the possibility that his reality does not conform to the real world. His self image would implode.
Do not expect to ever hear an admission of error or apology, even if the Chesapeake Bay freezes solid.

It struck me two ways.
1) Gore is calling out those people involved in the Manhattan Declaration that suggested he might be sued for repeating information that he knows to be false reference AGW. If so his challenge could be put up or shut up.
2) An attempt to intimidate with his war chest of $300 MM.
Either way in light of continuously mounting evidence that the wheels have fallen off the AGW bandwagon it looked to be a desperate move to use scare tactics to achieve an effect. Shame on CBS for pandering to him.

You’re being unfair to the pope with the comparison. The pope actually has an honest job and it would not be a good use of his time to debate something that is after all faith based (both religion and history).
Further the pope is not trying to ride a lie to fabulous personal wealth. AGW is a religion of course just not one that handles rational thought or disagreement well. Maybe Islam is a better comparison.
If the entire issue wasn’t so very sad this would be a humorous post.

There is a very interesting, recent essay on “How Broadcast Journalism Is Flawed” by the Skeptics Society

Another possibility – Al Gore just turned 60. Maybe he’s sensing his own mortality, and is scared he’ll go and have nothing to show for it.
Up till now, just senator and VP: this is his “last hope” for enduring legacy, and is willing to give all for the “cause”.
Thing is, he hasn’t scared us yet.
If he wants to make a diference, use that 300 Mil to buy CFL’s for everyone. Give everyone a “green credit” to purchase CO2-reducing items. But 300 mil for advertising?
Buy time on American Idol…
