UPDATE: 6/5/10
All of the tech issues from yesterday have been resolved. WUWT is now listed as the Top blog in the Sciences category by Wikio. My thanks to everyone who helps make WUWT a success.
=======================================================
From Greg Laden’s Science Blog, a preview of the upcoming science blog rankings. Apparently, WUWT is going to be number one. Oddly though, the Wikio Widget at the right sidebar which has said #2 for months, has suddenly stopped showing my ranking. When you click through it you find the number two science blog spot is now occupied by some shoes, cats, and shopping blog:

And WUWT is nowhere to be found now. Maybe it’s just a glitch. Maybe Greg’s just having some fun with me as his top post is cat related. Heh. No worries, I’m sure it will all get sorted out.

Here is a sneak preview of what the June Wikio rankings for Science Blogs is going to look like:

It is possible with threats and attacks, some adversary had you removed. Re identified as a non science blog. Climate progress uses
misinformers
anti science
deniers and other labels.
If you are #1, you will have more shots taken at you.
REPLY: Maybe, but with the cat and shopping blog showing up in #2, I’m going to go with simple technical failure first before ascribing any motives. Let’s see how it plays out. – Anthony
Hide the incline? ;-> I have to admit that I’ve never heard of half of those other blogs.
Approaching 50 million hits. I suspect the warmists want to move the goal posts and say popularity is no longer relevant?
REPLY: Oh, Smokin Joe Romm already did that, and got taken to task with his own data by Lucia.

Heh. – Anthony
WUWT FTW! Congrats Anthony, love the site.
Congrats Anthony,
When ever I see your detractors claiming this is not a “science” blog and the rest of the schlock, I just shake my head. I have visited some of the other sites and it is like revisiting kindergarten.
Congratulations once again. Cheers, Steve Mc
PS. I wonder how http://www.nextgenerationscience.com/ got its ranking? It only had 329 hits yesterday according to its front page; only has a few comments per post and only a few posts in the last few months.
The cream always rises to the TOP!
Congratulations Anthony. A well deserved position!
Keep it up. You guys are busy! [But not too busy to correct my little miss-thread, thanks.]
The study of feline shoe shopping is big grant money now, Anthony.
Could be legit. :)
Cats?
Congratulations.
You have earned it.
The cat’s out of the bag. This site is the cats’ pajamas.
From that Greg Laden link (presumably no relation to Osama bin) the following is found on the left side bar:
Lovely. Just having some fun? Just pulling your leg, as would a playful cuddly wuddly polar bear? ;-)
Congratulations, you’re definitely my #1, great site, informative, excellent guest posts, lots of interesting science and a host of interesting commenters. I learn something every time I’m here. Thanks.
Ken
No, you are there, #77 and falling.
REPLY: Heh, well that’s incongruous. -A
WUWT is still #2 on the wikio blog, but their site appears to have been hacked. All of the “Top posts” in the #2 spot are WUWT links.
http://www.wikio.com/blogs/top/sciences
Come September, WUWT will be #1 across the board.
And to think I started reading WUWT before it was really cool! Actually, its always been cool, but with lots more people reading, its really cool. I remember Anthony’s post on a valid hockey stick showing the sharp rise after Nov 19, 2009.
I’m sure that some of the competitors in the climate area are unhappy that WUWT is warming, and climate science reputation is cooling. I’m happy to report I’m not one of those. So if it is true WUWT is the new #1, congratulations :)

No, you are there, #77 and falling.
WUWT is not showing in the top 100. Perhaps they have the GISSTEMP problem with the inappropriate minus sign, only opposite.
Well done and congrats.

The Conspiracy Deepens!
At Wikio, Climate Audit has 2 rankings, Top Blogs General (#227) and Sciences (#7).
WUWT only has Top Blogs General (#77). No Sciences ranking! It has ceased to be a sciences blog!
The sky is falling, we are all doomed, the Apocalypse is… Wait, you’re #77 out of ALL the blogs?
From http://www.nextgenerationscience.com/
Currently online: 5Visitors today: 267Visitors yesterday: 329 2009 visitors: 150,639
150k visitors in 2009 (half a year..) puts it at #6?
There’s something fishy going on here.
Hathaway’s June SSN prediction is down again to 65 (range 35-95)

#1 according to wikio? Just catching up to reality, perhaps.
Congratulations. But don’t let it go to your head. Don’t get complacent.
Well, hey… Fox is no longer a “news organization”, and WUWT is no longer a “science blog”. Of course, we can take solace in the fact that this is also going to be the hottest year on record and people will flock to the polls to vote for the Dems to keep this robust (yes, I had to use the term) economy rolling along.
But that’s it. My denial counter only goes to four.

Congrats Anthony.

Just checked Greg “bin” Laden’s blog and he’s posted the following reply to a comment, regarding Wattsupwiththat:
“Actually, it shouldn’t be on the list at all. Thanks for reminding me. I’ll take care of that”
I think that says it all. THE MAN IS GREEN WITH ENVY.
.
“Drill baby, drill!”
The picture name is very telling:

Way to go Anthony, moderators, those who post and those who read, you all deserve a big hand!
Congrats again!
See, people do like science when the data is raw and proper logic is applied, or, when shining a light on those who do seem to do the contrary.
Funny–the “Wikio” score for WUWT was 138.9, while the corresponding numbers for “Wired Science” (shown #1), “Climate Progress”, shown #2, and “RealClimate” (shown #4), were 137.2, 100.0, and 46.1, respectively, as of this date and time! For
general blogs, the “Huffington Post” came in with a “Wikio” score of 1578.5.
REPLY: I fear it is about to get even weirder. Here is what it used to look like when at #2:

Congratulations!
Seems like Wikio shifted your blog’s category, to ‘general’ from ‘science’.
So you’re lower ranked, but in a much larger pool.
I’d say that is a backhanded recognition that you are now running a mainstream blog.
Clearly, Greg Laden is about to apply some warmist ‘adjustments’ to the data.
It’s just not FAIR that some sites keep getting all the attention. Hopefully the Obama administration will overhaul the blogosphere along with talk radio. We need a method to infuse more diversity, equality and social justice into this medium. Here are a few must-haves for the makeover:
Each site should be allowed a set number of visits after which it would be taken “off-air” to allow people to branch out and find other blogs offering different opinions. This “set number” would be weighted with a special “credibility factor” established by Jim Hansen and Gavin Schmidt. The more a given site agrees with the scientific consensus, the greater the number of visits they would be allotted. For example Open Mind would receive an initial allotment of 830 million hits. And because 99.99% of climate scientists, not associated with Big Oil or Big Tobacco, agree with Open Mind material… a site like WUWT would be allowed approximately 30 accesses.
Imagine how enlightened all of the SUV driving, Polar bear hating rubes would become if we only gave them the chance. This would be a win-win for the planet and its people.
Mine has been at 42 +/- 20 the last 26 months.
Congratulations, Anthony! I find the openness of the blog refreshing, commenters from all walks seem to find their way onto here….it makes for some interesting give & take, unlike, well, RealClimate for example.
The scientific knowledge & credentials of many regular contributors and commenters are quite impressive, where would we be without you, Leif, Willis and others?
As I’ve said before, you throw a GREAT party!! p.s. tip of the hat to the mods!
Can the Joe Romm messy explosion be far behind?
Seriously, Anthony. . . think back. Think way back. When you were starting the blog, was there a starry eyed groupie who wanted to be your bestest pal and sidekick and you told him to take a hike? And now maybe he’s elected himself your nemesis, ala Buddy/Syndrome in _The Incredibles_?
Greg Made a Post in the comments section of the blog rankings that said “It should’t be on the list at all”, speaking of Watts up with that, at least is seems that way. Maybe I’m Confused. If it is true, then He has no right or reason to remove this blog.
http://scienceblogs.com/gregladen/2010/06/the_june_wikio_rankings.php
REPLY: Although “smokey” overstepped the bounds of sensibility and good taste, and I would not blame Laden for being angry after reading something like that, he might be referring to his own blog site being in the list. Since he’s the moderator of the rankings it would seem a conflict of interest. Time will tell. -Anthony
Anthony, your blog may be the fourth one down on my list to visit, but still tops as the one I read. Thanks pg
Congrats Anthony! This is a great site. You deserve it!
Congratulations Anthony, I usually check in on your blog a couple of times a day to see what’s new.
All the best.
On the Wikio link, wattsupwiththat is still listed in number 2, but the title and picture have vanished – which suggests someone fiddling with it (ie hacking of some sort).
The recent topics for the number two place is “Recent topics : Sciences • Global warming • Climate Change • Meteorology • NASA • ClimateGate • Environment • Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change • Jet Propulsion Laboratory • Earth Sciences • Solar System • Greenpeace”
and in the top posts section has the following
” * Arctic Sea Ice about to hit ‘normal’ – what will the news say?
* The insanity of greenery
* GISS & METAR – dial “M” for missing minus signs: it’s worse than we thought
“
So Mr Watts
Are you gonna sell out, load the site with pop ups and write what your new ‘customers’ tell you?
Or are you gonna keep it just so, building on why you got here in the first place?
REPLY: I don’t foresee any changes just because WUWT gets named to a #1 position on a list. Traffic wise, WUWT has been at #1 for some time. -A
Congrats! You most certainly created an addicting blog. I’m just a silly geneticist. I had no real interest in climate science until last year when I realized the AGW foolishness not only wasn’t going away, but they were going to tax me for it. I decided I’d better educate myself quickly. I really appreciate the posts here. The subjects are explained such that climate laymen (like me) can understand without being overly simplistic and condescending. Even the comments are smart and often hilariously snarky. Thanks to you, Steve, Willis, and all your other contributors for the fine work on this noble cause.
T.
WUWT is #1 because it is satisfying a need that people feel—called the truth.
ClimateAudit at #8—might be ranked much higher, but those snippers hurt. Although in the end it is probably where Steve M wants it to be.
I think ClimateProgress and RealClimate are in the top 10 because of troll addicts; “refresh….refresh….refresh….refresh….refresh….I don’t have a life” ;-)
Why would you want “approval’ from another Hahvahd blowhard like Laden? Anthropologists wouldn’t know science if it jumped out of the bushes and bit ‘em in the butt. We have a couple of Hahvahd grads up here in the frozen north, Ignatief and Miller. Two more PhDs that should be recalled. Laden appears to be “Connolley-lite”. Any list that maintains RealClimate in it should be immediately suspect as troll bait.
It would be childish and vidictive for alarmists/warmists to try and sabotage your rankings because they do not agree and have issues with you content and says more about them and their motivations than it does about wattsupwiththat.
I visit nearly every day and enjoy taking in real science and objective views and appreciate all the posters who make a real community, the readers and contributors and the authors all make this the number one site on the net regardless of what others claim.
We have one avenue at least of accurate unbiased intelligent climate news that the vested interests cannot tamper with, we are indeed very lucky bunnies!
BTW spare a thought and a good word for the greeniewatch site please, it works in your shadow and is not linked but is no less interesting for that.
I wonder where Jane Lubchenco’s ClimateCentral.org would come in if twere a blog allowing comments.
Isn’t it funny how what’s supposed to be the most reliable source, goverment/NOAA doesn’t allow open discussion.
What a joke those people are.
I attempted to go to the link you posted when you said:
WUWT is still #2 on the wikio blog, but their site appears to have been hacked. All of the “Top posts” in the #2 spot are WUWT links.
http://www.wikio.com/blogs/top/sciences
My guess would definately be a hack or some other type of attack since my anti-virus program blocked the page as having an active threat.
Congratulations! I try to hit your site every day!
WUWT is now #1! Officially.
Congratulations, Anthony. Well deserved.
http://www.wikio.com/blogs/top/Sciences
Anthony – When I clicked the new red #1 link at the top right I got attacked just now:
HTTP Fake Scan Webpage 5
Severity High
Looks like the website has been hacked and highjacked.
REPLY: Some paranoiaware is just a little too…paranoid. I have a link scanner and it says the page is OK. – Anthony
Something is fishy. WUWT is clearly and deservedly the king, but Icecap counter shows we get 140,000 hits a week. We should be up there somewhere.
Icecap needs a site look refreshment as some on WUWT have suggested but don’t want to lose the 4146 stories posted. Don’t know how Anthony manages comments. Maybe he has a moderator to help. I am a one man band and can’t do it.
REPLY: Joe the reason Icecap is not on the radar is twofold
1- Format issues (you have no RSS feed)
2- Inability to link directly to stories (the major reason)
The Wikio formula is shown here: http://www.wikio.com/blogs/top/Sciences#
The way ICECAP is setup makes it impossible for anyone reading the story to link to that story specifically. The lack of an RSS feed makes it impossible for other systems to scan content. So, you disappear from aggregators and other indexing systems that provide linkbacks.
If this isn’t a wakeup call for you to overhaul ICECAP, I don’t know what would be. What sort of blogging system does it use now? There may be an import option for it. WordPress has many. – Anthony
Tried it twice more – both times OK now. Must be a corrupt packet setting it off or something.
So essentially when I finally post this comment I do it on the numero uno bloggo?
But I did that the first time I commented on this here blog …oh, hahaha, see what I did there? :p
I just got back from China where I’ve missed WUWT. Your website is blocked there by the Chinese government (who did you make mad?) so you are missing out on a possible billion people to click your website. With all that your’re still number one!
I guess I came in after the problems were fixed. Congratulations Anthony–you are definitely my #1 science blog!
Well Anthony, the way you keep on digging up little snippets that we are not supposed to see; that the MSM try to hide from us; and with the excellent cadre of Guest Authors; Like Leif, Steve Goddard, Willis Eschenbach, Roy Spencer; and some others I embarrasingly admit don’t come to mind; is it Bill Illis; we have plenty of inputs to whet out appetites. Well of course Lord Monckton, occasionally drops in; and then Dr Meier gives us a look from the other side of the fence (bravely) and we appreciate that.
But it takes your hard work to make it go Anthony; so congrats on a well deserved recognition.
George
Congratulations Anthony, and to all the contributers, from both sides of the divide who continually challenge, inform, and intelligently discuss the present state of play with the whole weather/climate conumdrum.
WUWT may be one of the few blogs involved with the issue that does not degenerate into a name calling, insult generating, troll infested science based blog.
Thanks to everyone concerned I have learnt more in the past 3 years than would have been possible from studying the accepted dogma and political announcements.
