Losing the 2000 election was the best thing to happen to Al Gore. He has since become insanely wealthy and admired around the world by peddling climate alarmism. Hollywood gave him an Oscar for his fictitious documentary An Inconvenient Truth, and (like Michael Mann) he claims to be a Nobel Peace Prize winner for his environmental activism.
Yet despite trillions of dollars in propaganda, there’s a sign that Gore’s message of doom is in big trouble: He gave a TED Talk attacking “climate realists” by name. That’s BIG, folks—it shows that the truth, the data, and reality are winning.
The Heartland Institute’s Anthony Watts, Sterling Burnett, Linnea Lueken, Jim Lakely, and our special guest Lois Perry, director of Heartland UK/Europe, will cover some of the breaking and crazy climate news of the week from around the world.
Antarctica is gaining ice, defying the predictions of climate doomers. A BBC presenter is worried that climate scientists might be a monolithic ideological bloc. An environmental protection charity in Scotland is finally pushing back against wind power because of how it kills threatened bird species. And a “controlled burn” by our government betters turned into a raging inferno at the Grand Canyon that destroyed a historic building.

Al Gore runs a racket – the Nobel Peace Prize was given to bums like Yasar Arafat and the Great Obomba.
Yes, but the truth is, he did actually win, or scammed, the Nobel Peace Prize, so that should be corrected.
The guy is a grifter, he made good money, I doubt he cares.
Just to be clear. This started by lightening. The fire managers let it burn for “land management benefits”. Until the wind event blew it out of control. For the life of me why this utterly predicable policy is still in place I can’t say. If the fire had a human cause, it would have been stomped out post haste. But there is some insane environmental loophole that if it is lightening caused, even in high fire season(!!!) it forces the situation to go to an inevitable catastrophic fire.
It’s been heart breaking here in the South Sierra Nevada as over 500,000 acres have been lost in the last 5 years EXACTLY because of this policy.
We’re from the government and we’re here to help. Yep, you bet.
Not questioning or contradicting you because I don’t live in the Sierra Nevadas (flew over them once), but could the it be that “over 500,000 acres have been lost in the last 5 years” also be due to the negligent policies of the previous 5 or 10 or 50 years that allowed so much deadfall to accumulate in the first place?
Answer to Phil,
No, I’d say it is the negligent policies of the last 120 years.
Not Phil rant,
The problem goes way back. And no 1/100 measure change in clearing or forestry practice in the last 15 years would have made any difference. And even that 1/100 measure would have been fought to a standstill by environmental NGO’s. And from the inside. The choice now is do you knock the fire down right away or let it get out of control and burn hundreds of thousands of acres before your 10’s of million dollar fire fighting effort gets it under control. It is a depressing situation for anyone that lives near or in these areas. I swear there are people in power that would like to see the whole damn thing burn.
Personally, I’d have the fire team there and mash it right away. Yes, that doesn’t help in the long run, but it does preserve for the present. The alternative is letting every little lightning fire go to an all consuming soil sterilizing monster that will take 500-1000 years to recover form.
Land management says, a fire started by “natural” process (100% lightening) is allowed to burn because it is “beneficial”. It is “watched” by a small team of fire fighters. Apparently, it must be allowed to burn until it is put out “naturally”. That would be the first real snowfall in October or November (if we are lucky). The problem here is there will be, inevitability, a wind event (probably in just a week or two) that will punch the fire right out of the small team’s ability to control. They (rightfully) run away. The (usually) feds take over and mount a giant effort to control the fire.
It happens with depressing regularity, but not all of the recent huge fires in the Sierra were the result of this bureaucratic idiocy. Some just start somehow and blow up. I know that will happen. What burns me is this willful bureaucratic mandated mega arson.
I guess it keeps California in the news!
On the somewhat lighter side, about 20 years ago:
We were in a US Forest Service campground several miles south-east of Mammoth Village, California, almost to Hwy 395.
Raining, lightning and thunder. Sitting under the trailer awning with some liquid refreshment. See a lightning strike back towards town. See the smoke start to rise. Had the ‘police’ scanner on; hear the Mammoth Lakes Fire Dept called out. Hear the Incident Commander call for a helicopter and bucket.
The helicopter comes up from Bishop. The pilot apparently wasn’t familiar with the area. He saw a pond and dipped the bucket on his way in. He dropped. The IC came up on the air, slowly and distinctly, “Where did you get that water?” He had picked it up from the pond that is the end result of the Mammoth Lakes wastewater disposal system.
That’s OK, good use for the “water”. That area has suffered in the last 20 years – Clark Canyon and other very nice places have burned. I don’t think the authorities fool around up there, it’s just very prone to wild wild fires.
I’m a bit bitter about it, heartbroken about some of the places.
Nutrient rich.
Al Gore’s brain is an open sewer full of climate crap, and vicious, harmful lies, all of which he has attempted and still is, to spread around the planet for his own benefit.
He’s doing a bang up job of it, too! I hear his networth is well above the $Billion range.
$11B at last count for his Investment Firm.
Gore talking… punishment to the rational mind… What a marroon !!
Someone needs to change the name to Gore
