From NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THAT
By Paul Homewood
Just a few final observations on the Carbon Budget:
Transport
The targets for EVs are not a surprise, given that they are in line with the ZEV mandate and the 2030 ban on ICE vehicles.
However they effectively have ruled out hydrogen powered HGVs, and have set a target of 63% electric HGVs on the road by 2040, despite the fact that the technology does not exist to make it workable.
There is also the usual nonsense about switching to public transport and walking, with a 7% switch by 2035.
Heat Pumps
The CCC want annual installations to hit 450,000 in 2030, and 1.5m in 2035. This will inevitably mean a ban on gas boilers by 2035, but also raises the question of how people will be forced to buy them in the interim.
Agriculture
CB7 demands a massive reduction in emissions of 39% relative to 2022 in the agricultural sector, and this will mean large reductions in the number of cattle and sheep, along with planting woodlands on good agricultural land.
However, reducing meat and dairy production in the UK will inevitably lead to replacement by imports, with a much higher carbon footprint. The CCC therefore demand import controls and tariffs to price them out of the market.
The end result will be much higher food prices.
In terms of numbers, they want us to eat 25% less meat by 2040, with a similar reduction in livestock herds. The effect on British farming will be catastrophic, and once again we have to ask how all of this will be enforced.
Aviation
The CCC veered away from earlier attacks on flying, quite deliberately in my view. Otherwise Miliband’s position in the cabinet would have been untenable, given the plans for new runways at Heathrow and Gatwick. This really does prove that the CCC is not the independent body it is made out to be.
In place of demands to reduce flights and frequent flyer taxes, they call for emissions cuts of only 17% by 2040, with the emphasis on sustainable aviation fuel. The cost of this, estimated at seven times the price of kerosene, will be passed onto passengers, which they hope will reduce demand.
Passengers will also have to pay the full cost of “engineered removals” – basically direct air capture, the mammothly expensive and unproven process of taking carbon dioxide out of the air and storing it – to cover residual emissions.
Hope for alternative fuels and direct air capture rely of course on technology developing, but the CCC have this ominous warning of what is to come if it does not:
Translation – limits on flights.
Holidays abroad in a few years time, along with much of our lives, will be controlled by the government.

It only needs a 1-word summary: “Fiction”.
Perhaps it all comes down to the number of sheep.
Seems to me, the pro typical Labor voter is effectively a wolf hoping to prey upon the sheep.
or, totalitarian
I think the CCC is preaching to the converted – and the mentally deranged. It’s being backed up by the usual media suspects.
Greening Britain requires short-term expenditure for long-term gains. Reaching net zero requires upfront investment, but will lower consumer bills and reduce reliance on imported fuels, shielding the population against price shocks.
…
Labour must recognise the state’s crucial role in the green transition. BP’s retreat from renewables proves private firms can’t be trusted to phase out fossil fuels.
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/mar/02/the-guardian-view-on-labour-eyeing-green-cuts-they-would-undermine-growth-and-climate-goals
Lighting – by fossil fuel.
Greening Britain by reducing plant life. Remove their food source.
Brilliant!
Something interesting happening here. You notice they are no longer talking about doing this stuff ‘because climate’. It having become obvious to them that’s a loser if your emissions are 1% of global, and falling as global rises.
Now they are talking lowering bills and increasing energy security. Climate has vanished. The crisis is just about on us: prices will not fall, and there will be blackouts, unless they U-turn. My bet, though not by a lot, is on Starmer to do a U-turn and fire Miliband. Maybe something like these odds:
“Now they are talking lowering bills and increasing energy security.”
They won’t get that by building more windmills and solar.
Incorporating Windmills and Solar into the electrical grid is the cause of higher energy bills. If they want lower energy bills, they need to get rid of the windmills and solar.
Cue Nick “but the wind is free” Stokes.
Even then it’s anything but using the resources we have. No Fracking, no new drilling etc
Fire Miliband...

For my money, had Labour won earlier in 2019 or 2017 things might have gone their way
Now the challenge is to do all that and stay elected and not have riots but in their favour the old British stiff upper lip could make it happen 🙂
Here’s an idea. If they want to reduce air travel, stop building and maintaining runways.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O%27Hare_International_Airport#Runways
That would also reduce the CO2 cost of maintenance as well. Win-Win.
“Also” and “as well”. Posting before coffee 🙂
A lot of people use those two things as a matter of course. Same with “and also”.
Good grammar is a rapidly-fading commodity. And notice how the punctuation of “however” has gone to pieces. But my favourite remains “new innovation”.
That seems to be a strategy that is used in Colorado to reduce road travel.
Five-plus years and lots of $$$ to rebuild Interstate 25 between Castle Rock and Monument, and all they accomplished was adding one express lane each way. It remains a two-lane nightmare.
Meanwhile the fibs told by the virtue signalers in government will continue at high frequency since they are not only very poor thinkers they are also very bad losers.
Miliband possibly has a book written already, provisionally entitled How I Saved The World (or at least parts of Doncaster).
Things are looking bleak for Anglostan
Red Ed’s DESNZ has handed out a hefty £86,200 contract for “Gender, Race and Social Inclusion – Net Zero transitions.”
The lucky supplierDelta eSourcing Portal has been tasked with “identifying how the UK can better develop gender responsive and inclusive climate/ energy policies and technologies
https://order-order.com/2025/03/05/government-splashes-86000-to-identify-gender-and-race-responsive-net-zero-policies/
For a moment there, I thought you were saying that there are now 86,000 genders.
My God what a crock of shit. The downfall of western civilization personified. Drowning in debt, but this shit *needs* taxpayer funding.
Where’s that “smack my head” emoji when I need one?!
“basically direct air capture, the mammothly expensive and unproven process of taking carbon dioxide out of the air and storing it “
Presumably the genius in charge has documented the reproducible experiment which demonstrated that removing CO2 from air makes the air colder. No?
So there’s absolutely no rational reason for this insane desire to reduce plant life, and the world’s food supply, is that it?
The next step will no doubt be to become water-neutral – H2O being the most “important” GHG. Or maybe “hydrogen neutral” or “oxygen neutral”. What a good idea! Remove water from the air, and store it so that it can’t possibly harm people. Probably reduce even more plant life than just starving plants of CO2.
If you didn’t laugh, you’d cry. The inmates are definitely in charge of the asylum.
There’s a reason producers of dry ice and liquid CO2 don’t just pull their feedstock from the air. It is far cheaper to collect it from industrial and commercial sources where it is produced in high concentrations. It’s the same reason gold isn’t produced by collecting it from seawater.
And once again, in any event, the operative question is ” how much energy will it take to do this? AND WHERE IS *THAT ENERGY* COMING FROM?!”
Every “solution” to their imaginary “crisis” requires MORE ENERGY to be expended DOING NOTHING USEFUL. See windmills, solar panels, electric cars and burning FOOD to get energy as other fine examples of this mass stupidity.
Plant more trees in UK, while subsidising Drax to cut them down overseas…
Priceless…
Er cut down more trees…
UK Infrastructure Bank, has in recent weeks injected a weighty £43.5 million in direct equity into… paper bottles. The investment is intended to help packaging firm Pulpex start a manufacturing facility near Glasgow to produce its “fibre-based bottle solution free from hidden plastic, manufactured from sustainably sourced wood pulp designed to be recycled in the same way as paper or card in normal household recycling streams.” – Guido Fawkes
Glass is a no no…
You have to understand the mentality. We are in the middle of a moral panic. Its in the same category as (to name only those of the 20C in the US and UK) masturbation panic, prohibition, reefer madness panic, the comic book panic of the 1950s (remember ‘Seduction of the Innocent’?), the satanic child abuse panic, the recovered memory panic, trans mania, BLM and the anti-white mania.
The characteristics include the discovery of some danger which is imaginary at least on the scale and importance of what is alleged, and sometimes wholly imaginary and just made up (as with the Carl Beech allegations in the UK). Remedies are then enthusiastically proposed which usually have only a tangential relation to the supposed danger by people desperate to get onside. Often there are apocalyptic predictions of disaster unless the chosen remedies are enacted at once with no further questioning.
You see this in the UK with, to take three examples, the Scottish policy of sending male offenders including rapists to womens’ prisons, if they declared themselves to be of the female gender, the classic adoption by the little town of Thetford of making itself a net zero town because climate, the proposal by the NHS to stop using anesthetics with minute quantities of GHGs in them because climate.
Sometimes the measures are unenforceable, as with Prohibition, or the proposals from the CCC to restrict meat and dairy foods. Sometimes they are impractical because of cost or feasibility, as with the UK’s net zero power generation plans. Sometimes they are simply impossible, as with Boris Johnson’s wish to make the UK the Qatar of hydrogen. Not having noticed that whereas Qatar has oil, the UK does not have any hydrogen!
I posted on another thread Henry James’ acute remark on the New England of the Transcendental Movement. He notes in his essay on Emerson
….the primitive New England character, especially during the time of its queer search for something to expend itself upon. Objects and occupations have multiplied since then, and now there is no lack; but fifty years ago the expanse was wide and free, and we get the impression of a conscience gasping in the void, panting for sensations, with something of the movement of the gills of a landed fish.
We are looking at the manifestation of an over-excited conscience in search of an object, and which invents one illusory object and associated remedy after another. Climate madness and net zero are example of this and will die out too, though not before they have caused untold misery to no purpose.
Along with untold, unjust enrichment of the perpetrators of the scam, their cronies and the trough feeders drawn to the scam like flies to shit.
The Brits need to wake up, you can’t sit around hoping your worthless government will finally see all the damage they have done and have a change of heart. You have to be the change, you can start by demanding outfits like CCC immediately be disbanded and all laws leading to the creation of CCC and other agencies like them. Any law or rule that can be made can also be sent to the ash heap. CAGW is all lies, all laws or rules created on lies must be trashed. Your government isn’t going to do it without a swift kick in the backside by you. They are corrupt and need to be straightened out. Only you can do it.
Start by demanding the CCC be isbanded.
That would be a very good start. But what argument would you use? Point out the damage they are doing? And who would disband the CCC? The Government, of course. And what would that involve? A change of heart, presumably. So whichever way you go about it, you have to change the government’s mind. Now, if there were an anti-Net Zero party which kept gaining seats from Labour in by-elections………
I completely understand your frustration but hoping a worthless government will willingly admit they are wrong and change course isn’t going to happen. I don’t think it would take a lot of people, it would be helpful to have some powerful people. You don’t need a majority all it would take is a strong, active, well informed minority to point out the damage done by outfits like CCC. The differences between what they say and the truth. The absolute fact that wind and solar can’t stand on their own, they are expensive, they are intermittent, they gobble up huge resources, they kill and injure wildlife with no consequences, they are short lived, they are not recyclable, they are a danger to the grid, they are the cause of blackouts and brownouts, and on and on. The CCC and outfits like them have lied, mislead and caused your country to squander billions of pounds on unworkable projects that have made your country poorer and more susceptible to adverse weather, power poverty and worst of all a lack of confidence and trust in your government and leaders. Outfits like that must be eliminated. They are liars and cheats.
The CCC therefore demand import controls and tariffs to price them out of the market.
Tariffs, eh? Well, well, well, The CCC going all Trumpian. Who’d have thought it.
