Climate Crazy? Andrew Griffiths’ “Ecocide” Threat

From MasterResource

By Robert Bradley Jr. — August 10, 2023

“UKers have been hearing doom for a half century. Citizens want affordable, reliable energy. Many if not most know that UK sacrifice will not have any affect on climate for decades given the global coal, gas, and oil boom. Adaptation yes, but don’t exaggerate.”

It began with a “Wake Up Rishi Sunak” post from Andrew Griffiths, director of Policy & Partnerships at PlanetMark, a climate activist organization that continually complains that the UK government never does enough to mitigate greenhouse gases. Never mind that the UK accounts for about one percent of such global emissions; its oil and gas industry is mostly shut down; businesses can’t afford climate-policy-inflated bills, and consumers are falling into energy poverty…. And the plants like CO2!

“When government actually tell the general public what the climate crisis will mean for the UK, they demand government action,” Andrew begins.

The findings of this government report are not surprising, nor is the fact that the current government would choose to release their report on this quietly and without fanfare because it would make them accountable and not support their effort to start a culture war for political gain.

I responded:

Is the report exaggerated? Alarmism in, alarmism out? Malthus in, Malthus out?

UKers have been hearing doom for a half century. Citizens want affordable, reliable energy. Many if not most know that UK sacrifice will not have any affect on climate for decades given the global coal, gas, and oil boom. Adaptation yes, but don’t exaggerate.

One Steven Lord replied:

Hmmm….your credentials are invalid round here, buddy: Institute for Energy Research (IER) & American Energy Alliance (AEA) Koch Industries Climate Denial Front Group … The Institute for Energy Research was founded by Charles Koch and CEO Robert Bradley, a former Enron executive, in Texas under its former name, the Institute for Humane Studies of Texas….

replied:

Ad hominem all you have? Do you understand what classical liberalism is? BTW, I founded IER with my father, not other person. Fact.

Pro-consumer, pro-taxpayer, pro-freedom, and yes, pro-environment (energy density wins) is a sound basis to counter climate policy, which is failing despite all the (wasteful) effort. Freedom over Big Brother…

Griffiths chimed in: “what Steven said. Are your views exaggerated? Oil money in, denial out?: My reply: “Classical liberalism, my friend. Why the repeated tries to discredit rather than stick on the issues?”

Griffiths reply:

Call it what you want. What you are doing is immoral and will one day be seen by future generations (and even current ones) as blood money.

We will live to see the day that those within the oil industry who have been secretively funding campaigns to sow false seeds of doubt will be held accountable for their actions. I hope that you wake up to the damage that you are doing long before that happens.

My reply:

Nice to finally get that out of you… But just incredible if you really believe it.

What if a critic calls what you are doing–using Government to substitute inferior for superior energies, costing consumers coming and going–as immoral.

Your program is based on coercion–classical liberalism is based on consenting adults voluntarily exchanging value for value. Sorry, but people who disagree with you on your premises and on the results of interventionism are not evil or immoral.

May the best energies win with government neutral–and may the countryside be saved from industrial wind turbines that operate at one-third of capacity. And crony, rent-seeking capitalists. That’s real economics and environmentalism.

Then Andrew takes it up a notch!

The only crony here is you. Accountability is key and the international legal system in countries around the world are putting in place criminal charges for ecocide alongside genocide. This is where accountability will be found for oil and gas companies.

responded:

Just more ad hominem at the beginning of your evasive reply, and then madness about “criminal charges for ecocide alongside genocide.” Is this a threat?

Ecocide?

Andrew Griffiths disappeared at this point. But what is ‘ecocide’? As defined at the alarmists Inside Climate News:

At the close of World War II, when Soviet and Allied forces liberated the Nazi concentration camps at Auschwitz and Dachau…. a new word—genocide—was needed to describe it…. Another crime of similar magnitude is now at large in the world…. That crime is called ecocide.

And that is getting crazy, folks.

ECOCIDE

EVERY wind turbine owner or installer. ! Birds, bats, insects.. all killed and mutilated

EVERY Solar factory destroying lives and polluting the environment !

—-

NON-Ecocide

Providing much need atmospheric CO2 for the increase of crop and plant life around the world.

GENOCIDE

Disallowing the progress of real reliable electricity to huge numbers of people in third world countries.

Allowing horrendous mining conditions and near slavery to get raw materials for wind and solar. Allowing slavery in the production of solar panels

They may take trees to clear an area for Low Density Energy Generation like Wind and Solar+Battery but don’t worry, they’ll plant more someplace else to offset the clear cutting. Soon though, the only place to plant more trees will be atop existing forests as all the other land will have either Wind Farms, Solar Farms or Battery Farms (AKA Subsidy Farms) and we still won’t have enough energy when the wind dies down at night

Climate and Weather, a Parody of sorts

Climate and weather always appear to be something that the various well renowned Bureaus of Meteorology don’t appear to get correct.

Start with weather.
At best they can only provide a 7 day forecast with constant updates as things change.
Weather is unpredictable also in many ways it has a sex.
Example:
Farmer 1: She is pissing down hard today.
Farmer2: Yep shore is.

Person 1: She is a stinger of a day.
Person 2: Yep, she is bloody hot even in the shade.

OK so we see weather is female. That is unpredictable as it changes its mind daily. Ok men are just as unpredictable but weather is normally here in OZ referenced as a ‘she’, especially in the regional sector. I live in the regions so I do have some understanding of the conversion style.

Inference weather is not predictable.
So for argument sake consider weather like a late teen to early 20s young lady.

Climate.
Well climate is not that predictable either. In most cases it is fairly constant, but does have its ups and downs, which have been called by the renowned climate evangelists Climate Change. Yes Climate Change is a trademark word the way it is bounced around.

So what is climate? Well it’s a bit like grand parents, grandfather and grandmother, or what ever the new lingo is, which I don’t care about.
Grandfather tends to be straight down the line and does not vary too much. Ok nice guy but has some strict attitudes on many things. Grandmother is similar but can get warm and fuzzy especially with grand children. They do the spoil then type stuff before returning then to their parents.

So there it is. Climate and weather are like people, unpredictable. Climate the grandparents, Weather the young granddaughter.

The parents are the renowned elite scientists pushing the “modelled climate change” with little clue on how to deal with the grandparents or the daughter.

Their mistake is they have tried to put the grandparents and the daughter into the a single
model and have come up with a grotesque entity.

Such utter bolleaux is all the ecoloons have left to them. Today’s climate fear factor is hovering on 11

In another comment I stated how the Scottish government chopped down 15 to 17 million trees to make way for wind turbines.  And I’m puzzled as to how on the one hand, they are anthropocentric

“At the close of World War II, when Soviet and Allied forces liberated the Nazi concentration camps at Auschwitz and Dachau…. a new word— [for?] genocide— was needed to describe it…. Another crime of similar magnitude is now at large in the world…. That crime is called ecocide.”

And yet the intention is to cover life in general? Does cutting down 16.7 million healthy CO2 dependent trees count as ecocide? I think, in their terms it does.

“The draft law, unveiled on Tuesday, defines ecocide as “unlawful or wanton acts committed with knowledge that there is a substantial likelihood of severe and widespread or long-term damage to the environment being caused by those acts”.

It will have an effect, how the level of impact is so far below the noise that it can’t be measured with current equipment.

Not being able to measure something because of noise, is not the same thing as not being there at all. That claim is as ludicrous as anything the warmest claim.

Seems to me the first victims of ecocide are going to be the OAP’s who freeze to death because they can’t afford their gas and electric bills – which, in the absence of this AGW lunacy would likely be far more affordable. Will Andrew Griffiths accept being held to account for his small, but non-zero, part in their demise?

August 11, 2023 5:31 am

Yes, always the same false assumption: that if the UK limits or eliminates its emissions, that will have an effect on global emissions and the global climate.

Its as if the government of Tuvalu should proclaim that global sea levels are rising and will swamp them. And so they should immediately close all their hotels and flights and take their emissions to zero…. to save their people.

You find it in Biden’s pronouncements too. The demand is always to do things which the activists themselves, if they believed their own stories, would think are utterly pointless. Even if they were doable, which mostly they are not.

Its like demanding people in the UK take fewer baths, because there is a drought in the Sahel.

Well, ecocide is actually a good term to describe the madness of forcing the replacement of reliable hydrocarbons with unreliables. The reality is that at some point, if the madness continues, there will be a massive grid failure that will last long enough to cost a lot of lives. That will be ecocide.

I don’t see any science in his background. On-the-job training?

Apparently, he now has a new job and title. When the axiom of CAGW via CO2 gets imbedded in one’s mind there is no reasoning left therein. The biblical story of St. Paul (Saul of Tarsus) comes to mind. I’ll win a lottery first!

Start with the assumption that anyone who disagrees with the climate alarmists is funded by oil companies.
Then use that assumption as a reason to ignore anything your critics have to say.

Alarmist logic in a nutshell.

Of course, they don’t want to talk about the warmunists being funded by the LLL people (Loony Leniist Lefties).

August 11, 2023 11:06 am

From the article: Griffiths: “We will live to see the day that those within the oil industry who have been secretively funding campaigns to sow false seeds of doubt will be held accountable for their actions. I hope that you wake up to the damage that you are doing long before that happens.”

I think it is to be expected that people who use unsubstantiated assertions as evidence of human-caused ciimate change, would also use unsubstantiated assertions as evidence oil companies are lying about CO2.

Without unsubstantiated assertions the climate change alarmists would have nothing to talk about.

Here’s a clue for all the climate change alarmists out there: There is a big difference between what is evidence and what is speculation, assumptions and assertions. You should learn the difference and then you will see that the climate crisis does not exist. There is no evidence that CO2 is doing what climate change alarmists claim it is doing.

None of the climate change alarmist assertions would stand up in court as evidence.

And it’s not that hard to distinguish actual evidence from speculation, assumptions and assertions. Trial judges do it all day long. So one has to wonder just how stupid someone has to be to accept speculation, assumptions and assertions as evidence of anything. Climate alarmists need to watch Perry Mason reruns. Perry will show you the difference. 🙂

August 11, 2023 12:16 pm

I would propose an alternative definition, ecocide- the act of national suicide due to climatic fanaticism.

Bruce Cobb

To put it bluntly, Alarmist ideology, by attacking our energy systems destroys wealth, and ultimately lowers standards of living, with the net effect of destroying human life. Alarmists are therefore guilty of Anthropocide. How do they like them apples?
