I always get a kick out of climate protest marchers, because these rent-a-rants generally make complete fools of themselves, and the process is very entertaining to watch. For example, this person doesn’t seem to understand what the canister on a gas mask does.
That frame is from a video posted by the 350.org McKibbenites who hope to have a big “climate march” on Sept 21st. So where do they shoot their publicity stunt for maximum effect? Times Square, New York City, surrounded by giant energy consuming screens, marquees, and billboards all powered by…you guessed it…fossil fuels. Watch the video:

How much energy is used in Times Square?
So just how much electricity is required to keep Times Square running? Well, it is a difficult question to answer because Times Square, which stretches for about five blocks along Broadway, is actually part of a larger power grid which also encompass the entire Theater District that runs several blocks in every direction from Times Square.
At peak usage, the New York power company, Con Edison, estimates that power consumption in the Theater District is 161 megawatts of electricity being used at once, with Times Square accounting for a decent chunk of that power consumption.

Here is what these oblivious 350.org clowns say about their video:
On Wednesday July 30, we publicly announced the People’s Climate March – the largest march demanding action on climate change in the history of the planet.
The march will be on September 21st, 2014, when world leaders are coming to New York City for a UN summit on the climate crisis. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is urging governments to support an ambitious global agreement to dramatically reduce global warming pollution.
With our future on the line and the whole world watching, we’ll take a stand to bend the course of history. We’ll take to the streets to demand the world we know is within our reach: a world with an economy that works for people and the planet; a world safe from the ravages of climate change; a world with good jobs, clean air and water, and healthy communities.
Join us on September 21st.

I get a little burned out by people who warn me about the potential health and neurological dangers of my cherries, apples, and tomatoes, and then proceed to stuff a bowl and smoke that as fast as they can, to make themselves stupid with thc.

climatereason;
The alternative is to get someone to walk around the protest wearing a sandwich board putting the other point of view.. As it was your idea I nominate you…
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
LOL. Are you going to pay my expenses to travel across an entire continent too? (I’ll throw in the sandwich board for free).

Maybe the Naked Cowboy is for hire? There are also legions of homeless people wearing various cartoon character outfits that harass tourists into paying to have their picture taken with “Elmo.” I am sure they could be hired for a modicum stipend to tote any sort of sign around. 😉
damned hippies….
I miss Berke Breathed’ Bloom County strip.
Come on….
I care for the “environment”, but I would never show up to one of those rent-a-mob/pseudo environmentalist get-togethers…… never!!!
This is nothing more than an attack on personal freedom. Trust me, one day it will make sense… you’ll see.
It’s just another piece of the puzzle.
It’s worth noting that NYC gets quite a lot of its energy from nuclear, thanks to Indian Point. Which, of course, similar loons have been trying to shut down for decades.
To much real news going on in the world and they expect that junk to get some airtime?
It is funny children in school playgrounds when they do something stop and say “global warming” because you can blame anything on that. This is the problem the whole AGW crowd now face everyone has stopped taking it seriously it is like those crazy medical studies that come out from time to time that get media coverage and everyone promptly ignores.
I’m not that familiar with your country but that angry lady addressing the mob…was that the President’s wife?
Some day the scientific study of narcissism will progress to the point that it describes clumped narcissism and organized narcissism, not just individual behavior and characteristics.
If those children get their way they’re going to live to find out how hard life can be.
After seeing the photo of the idiot in the gas mask I got curious and did some checking.
First off I couldn’t find any mask that looked anything like the one he’s wearing leading me to think it’s just a prop.
But the most interesting thing I found is what is used as an absorbent in gas masks.
And the answer is (drum-roll please) activated charcoal. That’s right people this guy is trying to protect himself from the nasty carbon with more carbon.
It is getting to a stage where one element of society thinks it has a right to impose its own ideas and beliefs on the rest of society without any discussion and debate. It is time for the silent majority to call these people out.
Read Jonathan Haidt. Liberals think in caricatures and cartoons; conservatives have wider viewpoints and are much better at modelling others’ ideas. http://www.ted.com/talks/jonathan_haidt_on_the_moral_mind
