While I knew I was gaining on Grist, this was a surprise to me when I checked it today, so I thought I would share. The graph below shows many of the blogs and websites on climate. The Discover Magazine metric also includes traffic for blogs.discovermagazine.com where angry people like the “Bad Astronomer” blogged about climate.
All data/screencaps is from from my Alexa.com account. For traffic, lower numbers are better, for example, Google Traffic rank is #1.
Here is the data in tables:
The bounce rate is telling. For those of you who don’t know what that means see the definition here
People ask me how I do this. Some assume I must be funded by some massive “big oil” campaign or some “dark money”, but to be honest, it is just me and a few contributors that put up stories a few times a day, plus some Google adwords revenue, of which wordpress.com takes about half, since they host the site, provide the bandwidth, and manage the advertising. I have no control over it.
As always, to my readers, contributors, and moderators, a sincere thank you.

You need to move this Blog to your own or cloud server so you can design it better but also add more functionality…
Anthony, you’ve done an excellent job and taught us a lot about climate. Thanks for all your help in getting good information.
No surprise, at least to me.
I stopped buying Discovery Magazine some years ago, this saved me about $6? per copy at corner store.
I did not need the preaching.
WUWT is the future for publishing science and conjecture prompted by things that make you go hmmmm.
When I fail to comprehend the post, the comments set me thinking or asking a stupid question will produce some clarity.
Having dropped all subscriptions to science magazines, I have no problem donating/ subscribing to WUWT.
A much classier format than glossy pages smothered in adds.
I’m extremely happy, (but not at all surprised) that a media outlet that provides simple, clear, and concise scientific explanations (WUWT) eventually beats out pseudo-scientific media outlets that are mere sock puppets for those with political agendas. The once exemplary journals Discover, National Geographic, Scientific American, and ‘The Journal Nature’ have degenerated into pseudo-scientific garbage spewing propaganda outlets. Unless they revert back to honest scientific reporting, their chronic, degenerative assault on logic and truth will ultimately cause their demise.
Gkell1:
Everyone here at WUWT is well aware that “the globe warms and cools as it swings out of the orbital shadow into the Sun’s radiation each 24 hours”. And contrary to your belief that “this website pushed the self-destruct button in an entirely voluntary way by posting a thread entitled Global Warming is REAL but NOT a Big DEAL” nothing could be further from the truth.
Make a logical valid point or be gone troll!
I come for the articles and stay to read the comments.
At times the commentators are an important part of the visit. This is not just a news outlet, It is a community of visitors. pg
Congratulations, Anthony! And mods, guest bloggers, commenters and lurkers.
It seems like only yesterday that we were counting up to 100,000,000 views. But, in truth, it was a little over two years ago … Yet here we are rapidly approaching 200,000,000 views.
Which all goes to show that time certainly flies when one has a high quality blog to follow and learn from. Not to mention that nothing succeeds like success … and (of course) it’s all happening faster than we thought 😉
Well done!

And truth is worth $millions!
$Millions upon $millions upon $millions.
Just ask those heavily-funded Warmista sites that can’t buy viewership.
No wonder they apply the “Big Oil” excuse to skeptics–no introspection there.
Kudos, Anthony and Team!
Live long and prosper!
Still waiting to hear about the waterfront mansion you’re building with all the Beeeg Oyall deniros, Anthony 🙂 I want pictures!
Anthony has earned a Nobel Prize. The category is Letters.
WUWT….stronger than dirt!
Well done, Anthony. Thanks for all of your hard work, and thanks also to the contributors, mods and readers. This is quite a community.
This is good news, makes you wonder what the warmists actually do with all that money they get. They should be able to produce better papers.
I have been reading WUWT for a few years now. I was originally steered to WUWT by some remarks by an American Greenie on ABC Oz, he was issuing a general warning to viewers NOT to go to a site called What’s Up (or something like that) because it is evil Denier propaganda. He was dumb all right.
“People ask me how I do this.”
I’d say you get a LOT of help from the idiocy spouted from the likes of Mann, McKibben, Romm, Hansen, and the IPCC.
Congrats to all of you!! You all give such a clear well balanced thought out presentation of your works.
Anthony, and there are way too many to start a list, thanks, you and your team keeps our minds sharp and our hearts full of laughter. For me a special thanks to Willis, his adventures all over the place were a welcome sight when I was coming back from a (minor) set back and that also goes to those commentators that made me laugh as well. Thanks!

I am afraid not Louis as the contributors to WUWT subscribe to an impossibility where cause and effects diverge –
” It is a fact not generally known that, owing to the difference between solar and sidereal time, the Earth rotates upon its axis once more often than there are days in the year” NASA /Harvard
There is another thread going on about tides which are extremely sensitive to the Earth’s motions but you can’t even begin to research tides without the fact that the Earth turns once in 24 hours and why it is that way, everything else is bluff and voodoo.
Hats off Anthony and team, you’re turning the world around against the longest of odds.
Gkell1 is clearly a psudonym of Gerald Kelleher who disrupted this thread:
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2014/01/06/on-the-stability-and-symmetry-of-the-climate-system/#comments
This change demonstrates that he is a real person, not a bot.
But he should still be ignored.
[Correctomundo, Matthew. They are the same. ~ mod.]
Here you go Courtney, here is the massive warming and cooling at a location as the Earth turns once in 24 hours each day and every day –
http://www.timeanddate.com/weather/usa/dallas/hourly
Does this website want to be congratulated for managing to support an alternative cause for the temperature response within a 24 hour period ?. I will even truncate the offending ‘fact’ which is a low point for human understanding –
” It is a fact not generally known that..the Earth rotates upon its axis once more often than there are days in the year” NASA /Harvard
Congrats Anthony Mods and commenters.
It is interesting that the skeptic sites are places that have good conversations going on. The others sound like a schoolyard full of bullies.
keep up the wonderful work Anthony

Made me smile, thanks.
A massive shift is under way from dependence [meme-stream-media] to freedom [blogs]. It is a hard road, made easier by a host’s warmth, a moderating team’s latitude and commenter’s without parallel. Thank you to each and every.
If it takes me, not a particularly slow reader, on average 45 minutes to read a post and its comments. The metrics are skewed in my opinion.
That is a huge deal. A big congratulations to Anthony and all who have helped along the way.

Phil Plait’s rants about “climate deniers” used to bother me, but now I just laugh at how clueless this intelligent man is. It’s ironic how his blog started out to debunk all the scaremongering peripheral to astronomy, but he’s oblivious to the same behavior concerning the climate.

He posts here occasionally as Phil.. Yes, it’s strange to be that openly conflicted, but SOP for neo-marxists w/snouts in the taxpayer trough.
In NZ I get up everyday at 5am to prepare for my yacht forecasts but I check out WUWT almost as a religion now. I can sincerely say, Good work.
Another point, thanks to your supporting guest postsers, from Eschenbach, Tisdale, Clive Best, and others, you ALWAYS have new articles worth reading. Unfortunately for me, sometimes I just don’t have the time to keep up with all your posts.
Congrats!! Amazing that the Anthony and the WUWT team can keep up the steam year after year.
This has an incredible value to all sceptics in the world. Especially im thinking about us sceptics in western Europe, because we are up against a majority of alarmistic people including politicians and media peoble. For us it is of high importance that we have USA on the other side of the Atlantic and WUWT that prooves that we are definetely still in the game.
So, Anthony and friends, you are perhaos even more important to us than you know.
