The IPCC tries to “hide the pause”, but Josh always finds the funny side.
Thanks !!!

Maybe if we appease them with a shrubbery . . . a nice one that doesn’t cost too much . . .
Naaa. . . They’ll just think up some other silly nonsense . . .

By suggestion for a new cartoon by Josh is from the current news item at ABC and AP that a bulk cargo ship has navigated the Northwest Passage—-carrying a load of coal!!

A nice rockery, perhaps?

I’m really tired of hearing this false claim that fascists are (or were) far right wing. Fascists were socialists. For example, Nazi is short for (in translation) the National Socialist German Workers Party. Nothing right wing about those guys. The myth started in the 1930s, during the Spanish Civil War, when Communists supported one side while the Fascists supported the other. The Communist-backed side lost. The Communists considered the Nazis right wing only because EVERYBODY was to the right of them. Since most journalists in the West were and still are Communist sympathizers, the myth stuck of how the evil right wingers defeated the pure and holy left.

Here’s my idea for the next Patchy cartoon:
Left panel: Patchy in a red-and-black Satan suit, point a pitchfork forward, and pointing a a fiery pit in the background, and saying, “Things will get HOT for you . . . Unless . . .
Right panel: A box with a slot in the top marked “Pay your indulgences here.”

tadchem says:
“It takes a pretty good spinmeister to rephrase ‘cooling’ as ‘less than anticipated’ warming.”
It’s a bit like “ocean acidification”. The ocean just may be becoming a little less basic, but that is not equivalent to saying it is becoming more acidic.

Sorry Josh I read it as “Credibility clown” only when taking a second look did I see what you had written.
Either way it sums it up.

No they weren’t. The fact that someone calls themselves “socialist” doesn’t mean that they are.
In fact, fascism is extremely difficult to place on a “left-right” scale because it borrows from across the political spectrum. Fully managed economy (far left socialist) sits alongside a doctrine of absolute ruling elites (very far right – it may happen in communist states, but it’s not part of the doctrine). There are also many “brands” of facism in which the exact mix of doctrine varies.
However, social conservatism and extreme nationalism are central tenets of all styles and, combined with the fact that it’s generally regarded as extreme right in common useage, if we insist on pidgeon-holing it into a spectrum that it doesn’t really fit, the far right is an appropriate place.

The two dimensional “World’s Smallest Political Quiz” is good for this.

Cleverly positioned to put fascists on the bottom. Okay, cleverly positioned to put libertarians on the top. And liberals on the left, and conservatives on the right.

Well, that can’t be right!
It puts me one square away from far- left liberal, just “above” the libertarian / statist line. Yet here I am as a fully fledged AGW sceptic, when the models say I should be eating locally grown organic tofu, picketting power plants, and cycling everywhere.
So much for pidgeon holes, eh? 🙂

Truer words were never spoken, thanks Michael.
